  1. 70charger, I completely agree. We far too often consider the actual financial cost without paying any attention to or measuring the hidden costs/benefits. Thrown pitches at AAA, prime years production, arbitration year value for team, as well as pragmatic value props like fans staying more engaged because it senses you are trying to win. I am a Twins apologist by nature and patient to an extreme, so I'm not one to shout from the mountaintops or anything, but there is actually no reason to wait any longer to promote May and Meyer. In fact, there are genuine, tangible reasons why any other decision is a foolish one financially.
  2. This is the point that gets lost far too often. When pitchers are ready, they should be moved up. No point in wasting a lot of these bullets in MiLB.
  3. Matt Capps is better than he showed last year. He's no all-star (2010 notwithstanding) but he's a solid relief pitcher who should get a few more outs this year
  4. I think Souhan is making an assumption that you don't see the Twins making. Willingham is in RF today and Plouffe is in LF. RF in Target Field is a lot easier to cover so, despite Willingham not playing much RF in the past, I'd love to see him there for the Twins. I absolutely agree with you that Plouffe/Revere in LF (if Revere isn't going to play CF) is preferable to any other scenario.
  5. Let's state the obvious: 1) You lose defensive value from starting Plouffe over Revere; 2) You (likely) gain offensive value from starting Plouffe over Revere. The problem is, it's probably a bit easier to quantify #1 over #2 to some extent. Gardy and Terry will be making this decision based on Plouffe in March and I guess some factor of how he hit between Rochester and Minnesota last year. You definitely saw some 'pop' out of Plouffe's bat last year, and I'm personally somewhat excited to see what kind of season he can put together playing close to full-time. I think we're a better team if Plouffe can CLEARLY win the spot over Revere; in order to do so he probably has to be a .800+ OPS guy. Benny can then pinch-run and come in in late innings and take CF and slide Span to a corner OF spot. I'm just doubtful that Plouffe can definitively win the job this spring. We'll see. This decision may not be fully made until June.
  6. I hope that's the case. Him being at 220 pounds doesn't give me a ton of faith that he'll have the same kind of pop. What a depressing day...man, I'm hoping for the best but now starting to prepare for the worst.
  7. I went with the Tigers, though I agree with John. I don't see this being a runaway. The addition of Prince adds wins, but they lose a couple by moving Cabrera to 3rd base. Their rotation is about like the Twins, just with a top guy (Verlander). I'd guess they'd win 90 games or so, and the Royals will be on their heels at about 86 wins. I think the Twins and Indians will be a bit below .500 in 3rd and 4th place, with the White Sox a few games back of them in the cellar.
  8. Right on, righty8383....I will be proposing a Beloit trip as well. The Snappers are going to be stacked.
  9. Something I would love to see on this site is a section where we could go to read a detailed recap on every game played by a Twins affiliate, and some stories/profiles on Twins minor leaguers. I know this stuff is available and scattered elsewhere, but I'd love to see Twins Daily as a one-stop shop. Thoughts guys?
  10. Unfortunately, I think you're probably right.
  11. First time in a few years that I won't be there It's truly killing me....will be watching a ton of games on FSN I guess.
  12. No matter what you think of Capps, when you factor in forfeiting a compensation pick to sign him for more money than a number of other similar relief pitchers signed for this offseason, it feels like pure silliness. Nevertheless, I believe Capps can have a big bounceback season. Sure hope that's the case.
  13. Seth - love your book by the way. The truth is I have no idea, but when reading the Prospect Handbook I was struck at Matt Hauser's quiet success in 2011. Playing at 3 levels in one season doesn't happen for most guys. He pitched very well at age 23 in Fort Myers. I sure hope he starts the year at New Britain; if he has some early success, perhaps we could see him in Rochester sometime during the season. I'm bullish on this guy, especially with a fastball that can touch 97 and a sharp slider.
  14. Saw this - giggled a bit. Gardy always loved Punto more than the fans did. And you know what? By the middle of last year, I read more than a few 'wish we still had Punto' tweets. All in all, it will be interesting to see how reuniting Gardy with Ryan will work out. It is clear he clashed quite a bit with Bill smith.
  15. I am flat out "hoping" for Nishi to come out on fire and justify his salary and a spot on the 25. Because I have nothing else to hang on to. Bonnes is 100% correct when he says that he looked overmatched even before the injury. I am clinging to hope that it was nervousness and not feeling comfortable. I really hope that was the case.
