For me, it isn't necessarily about 'wasting' Duran as it is the guy has struggled in non-save situations - so if Rocco felt that the 7th inning, down 2 runs, was high leverage - use someone that is more used to or comfortable in that role. Now if the answer is Duran's lost his manager's confidence, that's a different story but as of yet, it isn't out there.

That's really not fair to say. He 'breezed' through the 6th except he gave up a homerun. He didn't breeze through any part of the game. There was a lot of hard contact. And he was fortunate to only have given up 2 runs through 5. If the manager can't take the pulse of the game and know when to pull a pitcher, that's a problem.

He wouldn't be the first closer to struggle in those situations. It's been mentioned at various times during the season. At this point in the season, it is what it is. I'd prefer to use one of the relievers that fares better in that spot.

Duran's been iffy at best in non-save situations. If you felt the need to use a high-leverage arm in the 7th, when you have Sands, Alcala, and Jax available, why do you go for the pitcher that's least comfortable in that situation? With the lack of days off the rest of the month, Duran's going to have plenty of opportunities to pitch. There was nothing that said Rocco HAD to use him today. It was a bad decision.

Richards is on the front office. Using Duran in the 7th remains a stupid decision.

I'd rather Blewett than Richards. Blewett's got a slider that can make bats miss. Richards has a change-up that he can't locate and a 4-seamer that maxes out at 92.
