  1. The Twins have been quoted as saying they are impressed with this year's international crop, and they have one of the largest war chests. So let's not overreact if this Gonzales guy signs elsewhere. The Twins have done rather well by us in the international arena. For example, last year they signed the #7 and #22 ranked guys (Minier and Silva). Oh, and those who think the GM has a huge impact on all of this can't offer us a shred of real evidence to support this notion. It's a big department, with a big budget, and the GM doesn't dictate every decision, including who to sign. Some people want to believe that Sano would not have been signed if Ryan had been the GM. I call bull.
  2. If you were given a dollar for every pitcher in this draft described as having a fastball that sits at between 90-94 mph with a good hard slider, you would be approximately $967 richer. All this fixation on radar guns is comical.
  3. Think harder johnny.
  4. This EST list: is this AFTER players have been assigned to the ETon and GCL rosters? Isn't it true that the Twins are xcited about the talent level internationally this year? They have a big budget. Hopefully, they'll find a SS!
  5. I'm kinda curious as to what YOU would have done much differently. Perhaps you and Pierre could put your heads together and come up with a better blueprint for next year. Laughingstock indeed.
  6. Of course. What were we thinking? Pierre, you're a voice of reason. Impeccable logic, sir.
  7. While teams still deal with imperfect information, I really think things are different now, and that it's not quite the crapshoot as it was even five years ago. And somehow I think this is especially true for the truly elite talent.
  8. Revved up is one thing, worked up is another. I'm revved up, regardless of who they take. Just like last year. And 2001 too. I was a lot less revved up when our draft number was 31, or 22 , or even 14. Those tend to result in Michael, Wimmers, and Hicks, not Buxton or Kohl Stewart types. A top ten pick isn't a sure thing, but if it clicks, it can change things for the franchise. So, I won't get worked up, regardless of the pick, because we just won't know enough to render a valid opinion about it. But a top 5 pick skews the odds so damn favorably, and picking at the front of the order, round after round is certainly advantageous.
  9. This entire discussion of course is centered on ranking information gleaned from a handful of sources. These people are credible for sure, but it's important to remember their resource limitations. The baseball teams have multiple scouts who see these prospects many times, over the entire continuum of their amateur careers. Two dozen scouting pros will have in the least studied lots of video. They'll have meaningful information about their character and makeup. They'll have had a lot of discussion about each top prospect. So it shouldn't be at all surprising if a player that BA for example ranks as say, the tenth best prospect, goes in the top five. And not because of an underslot strategy. So, we might want to get ready for the outrage if our team selects a prospect that doen't line up with Keith Law's point of view. I mean, just maybe the Twins truly believe that Frazier is the better prospect and not Stewart, just to throw out names. If that happens, it won't be because they aren't as competent as Jonathan Mayo. It''ll be a decision based on better information and a sounder basis.
  10. Ancient history and not instructive in any way.
  11. You know, mike, almost everyone sees a connection between inferior draft order and the likelihood of poor relative results. Except you I guess. So, no, the ESPN article is not saying that "the drafting" has something to do with being bad the last few years. That would be YOUR interpretation, because it fits your schtick.
  12. How do YOU know what they should have done last year? Hey, let's just fire the whole scouting department. We have mike wants wins to guide us.
  13. Exactly. Coming into the season, if one's expectations were anything above having a team that was in the game more often than not, more fun to watch, a little more likely to win, with a few glimpses of a bright future, then one was setting oneself up for unhappiness.
  14. Doubt these guys have ever seen Gausman.
  15. The dramatic improvement in run differential is what stands out to me. The team is competing game to game this year on a fairly consistent basis. My eyes tell me that the main reasons for this are better execution, better starting pitching, and better depth. The ERAs and batting averages are ugly, but the baseball has been better than last year.
  16. My point is pretty simple kwak, so try to follow along. Contrary to whatsome of you critics say, the Twins aren't crappy drafters. In fact, they're pretty good. I used the ALC to make the comparison easier for you. All teams have some bad stretches, some bad luck, and some good luck. And check your facts, kwak. The current records of our A and A+ teams are nothing less than spectacular. A lot of that is due to good drafting, and it's easy to see how having a high draft order can quickly make a difference. As for selections past the first round, I don't completely agree that its a complete crap shoot. It seems to me the scouting-intensive teams might logically unearth a gem in each draft that a less diigent organization would miss. As for the rest of your post, kwak, wow. Some ofyour logic is perplexing to me, so you must be right.
  17. Compare their draft record to any other team in the AL Central, especially for rounds #2 and later. If you believe the Twins are crappy at drafting, then you may as well make a blanket statement that every team is crappy at drafting, with maybe one or two exceptions, and that the Twins are less crappy than most.
  18. JO Berrios retweeted tweets from his girlfriend and mom prior to this last start. They were excitedly tweeting about their visit to CR for the game. One can imagine the kid being really amped up, so I'm in agreement with those who are cautioning ahainst reading too much into his behavior in this one game.
  19. I guess I don't see any problem with the non-promorions of Beresford and Morales, albeit for different reasons. The only thing I find inexplicable is how pathetic Morales was to start the season, and how completely he dissappears at times. Beresford would likely get chewed up and spit out in MLB right now. If we have a string of injuries, I'd rather still have Olmedo and those vets in AAA to call up. Might feel differently if Beresford's development was likely to be accelerated by a promotion and if he was more than a fringe prospect.
  20. Yeah, geez. He's been almost as crappy as Marcum.
