  1. Nobody made that argument, but nice try.
  2. All that is cool until you consider that the move to make is bringing Plouffe back. Where are you putting Polanco after that
  3. I'm aware of that. But because it's been that way in the past doesn't mean it's going to stay that way.
  4. Well, no. But in a ****ty season you might as well see what you have and see if a guy with good physical tools can learn to make himself a better player, rather than outright cutting him and letting someone else do it. I'm not a big Santana fan. Not at all. But this is preposterous.
  5. He's 25, a career .274/.308/.393 hitter and gives you a body who can play all over. There's zero percent chance he'll be DFA'd, whether people like it or not. And again at 25....you can hate on him all you want but guys can and do get better from that age. Sort of like how he has from last year to this year, at least so far.
  6. That you're choosing to leave out the year before, which -- while heavily BABIP-influenced -- still happened.
  7. He's a 25th man who plays all over. I wouldn't call that a good player, but it's useful.
  8. I'm saying he's a useful player who, when used right, has value. At his age, are you really going to cut him when you could demote Polanco or someone for a couple weeks to let Plouffe regain value?
  9. .314/.364/.431 since July 1 while playing LF, RF, 3B, CF, 2B and SS defensively? No way.
  10. You don't handle players this way. It's not "is Miguel better than player x" but rather "is Miguel as good as Miguel can/should be in this moment of his development?" So if he's playing at say, 60 percent of how good you think he should be, you consider making a move.
  11. Doogie said reports on Suzuki were that most teams were scared off by the arm. Mike Berardino said on my podcast yesterday that he wouldn't be surprised if Suzuki retired. He didn't say that it was likely, but he hinted that it *could* happen.
  12. Besides that, he's a fly ball guy, so he didn't really benefit from Andrelton Simmons as much as say.....Mike Trout. An outfield of Rosario-Buxton-Kepler plays into his favor here, I think.
  13. As for defense behind him, Santiago is sixth-best in baseball over the last four years (min. 500 IP) at inducing popups. Sano jokes aside, that makes it easy on pretty much any defense.
  14. One thing to consider about Meyer: he may very well be 27 the next time he throws a pitch. Has just one more option year left. To get anything with a pulse, let alone left-handed and with a track record of beating his FIP at a reasonable cost? I'm in.
  15. This is a weird sentence, dawg. Sometimes....or all?
  16. Wrote an article about how Rob Antony and his comrades attacked the deadline: http://www.todaysknuckleball.com/al/minnesota-twins/minnesota-twins-trade-grades/ As always, discussion is appreciated.
  17. Wrote about Vargas Friday night. I'm buying in more now than before: http://coldomaha.com/2016/twins/kennys-vargas-credits-chad-allen-mechanical-consistency-and-patience-in-resurgence/
  18. Vargas has put together a really nice -- albeit short -- stretch with the Twins, and I chatted with him about that yesterday for this article. http://coldomaha.com/2016/twins/kennys-vargas-credits-chad-allen-mechanical-consistency-and-patience-in-resurgence/ As always, discussion is greatly appreciated.
  19. So....one deal in. Thoughts?
  20. Terry and Molitor were safe as of May 7. We saw how that went. My gut says they don't want a publicly lame duck manager in charge with this being a key development time for Buxton, Kepler and others. But if a GM says "my way or no way" as part of the deal to get him here, I think they'd quietly part with Molitor.
  21. It's him against the field. I'm taking the field. Just my gut, but I suspect he's got no more than say, 5-10% chance of staying.
  22. Was told he wouldn't be back next year, opted to leave on his own terms.
