  1. ...lost two out of three and faced the #4, #5, and #6 starters. It didn't appear to me that the Tigers were all that motivated to bring the "A" game either.
  2. Comparisions to KC and Minnesota? Why not to Detroit? They traded their "top prospects" to get talent (Cameron Maybin and others). That acquired talent has been helping them win. "Overspend" (Gosh, I love that word!) on free agents! Oh yes they did! Take the high-priced college pitcher (as opposed to a "toolsy" position player?--Yeah, they did that too. On to KC. They have had the "honor" of a loaded minor league system for several years. Prospects, prospects and more prospects--but all they had to show for it was a perpetually losing team and the opportunity to get even more prospects. Beware of the "prospects"! Notice how the wonderful Cedar Rapids prospects fell apart? In TT they have a "Blame Mauer bot"--should that be used here? Anybody can have a slump, but Sano's slow start in NB should dampen the fervor just a bit. I recall many a TD post before April extolling Hicks. That parade has been "rained-on". In fact, none of the "new Twins" have sent the "watch-out-for-me" message to MLB yet. In summary, prospects are fine to talk about, but it's "players" that are needed.
  3. I've been a Twins fan from '61--and I certainly don't need a lecture about loyalty. There have been some very valid points made about the lack of success in player development through the many years of "The Twins Way". Thursday's and Friday's games were clear examples of the follies of "The Twins Way"--PtoC (renamed "attacking the strikezone") vs pitching--Thursday's game; and Friday's game: power hitting and acquiring top talent through free agency. Diamond was effective because of the extremely generous "outside corner" from the HP umpire (Porcello benefited even more--but that's another story) until he had to face a real power hitter with baserunners. Yeah, we all saw the result. Placing "blind faith" in a strategy that failed in the millenial decade, by the same people, and then scolding people about loyalty--un uhh. I think stringerbell has just awoken to the reality that MLB is a business and not a sport and is bemoaning that the Twins have decided to use a business plan of minimal payroll (will take a bit longer to get there) to minimize risk and maximize profit as opposed to fielding the most competitive team. Lots of spin (Kool-Aid) is used to maintain interest in the team and "keep the money coming".
  4. Let me see...hope that a guy pitches well--so you can trade him? Ah, what a strategy! Trade all of your good players for minor leaguers. It all makes sense now--a site that spends as many inches (more?) on minor leaguers than on the Twins, so of course the more minor leaguers, the more "prospects" to talk about!
  5. Probabiliy of a Morneau extention--very low. The Twins are committed to low payroll and youth. I fully expect the Twin will accept the first offer than doesn't include the Twins paying any cash to the acqiring team.
  6. Talk about usng "conjecture"?! Watch him swing the bat. Why does he open up? IDK. Hence the use of a ? mark.
  7. I think Ryan is committed to Pelfrey in hopes he reaches (exceeds) the "Corriea level" so he can sign him to $3-5 MM contract for 2014. Pitch-watching Thursday's game was a clinic in PtoC--fastballs up and over the middle challenging the batter. Result: many hits. Luckily for Correira only one run. Swarzak was even luckier--zero runs. Alas, the luck ran out in the 8th and PHL scored (only) twice. The "pitching" I saw could easily have resulted in 10 runs for PHL. Ryan is a big believer in this type of "pitcher": cheap, PtoC, and and doesn't give up. He would have 10 of these guys and just shuffle them around as "options" permit. Maybe Gibson's "lack of consistentcy" is not enough PtoC.
  8. Watch Morneau swing--his first movement is to open his front shoulder. Is this to permit his left eye a better view? Whatever, this won't permit maximum bat-head velocity in his swing.
  9. Slama is freed! I sure hope this doesn't lead to 300 posts moaning and groaning over his loss--or that he should have been traded for " a prospect".
  10. Hmm, 2-0 with (what were those words again that shouted that Thomas was worthless and had no business getting a job). True, he isn't special, but so far he is better than the proverbial replacement player.
  11. I watched the televised Kernels game Monday and was impressed by Melotakis. I believe he has a very good chance to become a starting pitcher for the Twins. One thing I really liked: he wasn't looking for the dugout to get him out of trouble, he bore-down and ground his way through it. Character under fire--it means more than a couple, three ticks more on the fastball.
  12. I'm curious how people are so casual with the year 2016 to be the first year of "winning". Cue the Tigers: 2003 this team was wretched winning only slightly more than 1/4 of their games; yet by 2006 they are in the World Series. No one is even making a comparision of the methods used by these two teams to rebuild. There is simply blind acceptance of the Twins methods with a "wow isn't it neat they have two great minor leaguers".
  13. His contention is to have a running conversation.
  14. Look on the bright side--next June the Twins will select one or two slots higher--and hopefully get a more useful player!
  15. Spend FA $ for an extra CF--one who was destined to be at best #4 on the depth chart?! Oh my brother, given all of the posts on TD about awful starting pitching, even you would have screamed that Ryan had lost it and his priorities were out of touch with reality. Trade a minor leaguer for said #4 CF--I certainly hope it ouldn't be one with any potential to evr contribute. These rants indicate (to me) someone who drank the Kool-Aid before the season started about "competitive" and now has realized that there never was a scenario for "competitive" in 2013. Take a nap, no more sugar, and definately no more Kool-Aid!
  16. All this talk about CF depth? Yikes! There are so many holes on this team that to focus on a short-term problem is myopic. Power-hitting, timely hitting, plain 'ol hitting are a lot bigger problem than CF. Middle infield? Wasn't Sunday's doubleheader sufficient evidence to realize that problem is far worse? No need to even mention the elephant in the room.
  17. My thee are the Parmalee haters! Right now Parmalee's got a tighter grasp on a major league job that Hicks and Arcia. Willinghame is more likely to be moved than Parmalee. So, I strongly disagree that Parmalee will be waved next year.
  18. TK = Tom Kelly, not Gardenhire.
  19. Ryan had this belief that he could obtain "adequate" pitching for "average" salaries--"attack the strikezone with medium speed sinlers and sliders". He was wrong. I think he also thought this team would "hit better"--also wrong. I watched the Kernals game today on TV. TK was in the FSN studio and made the comment stating his preference for guys "who work harder, but with 'lesser' tools" than those guys who are physically better, but "don't work as hard". OK, everybody has a preference. But my take on the past two drafts is that the Twins are targeting the higher skill player--hoping that he will also have the "proper work ethic". Selecting early in the draft does make that task easier. TK also made the comment (7th inning) with 2 on, no out, "time to remove [Melotakis]". Perhaps that would be a savvy decision for a major league team, but I completely support Manager Mauer's decision to see if the pitcher [Melotakis] could "fix his own mess", testing his character and skills. Success! 6-4-3 DP! Methinks there is a changing of the guard in Twinsville, but we haven't seen much of it at the Twins' level (Gardenhire is still the manager). To me, they are targeting more "power arms" and "power bats" than before 2012. But IMO, this team will continue to [frustrate] for a few more years--maybe enough to continue to select early and acquire a couple more top players.
  20. Dozier makes that pill easier to swallow.
  21. Congratualations to Sano! Since there were no comments in the Kris Bryant thread that he was "too big to play third", hopefully that issue won't be raised for Sano.
  22. Golly, we could have saved 200 or so posts on the "Benson Thread" if it were known that an injured man could not be removed fron the 40 man roster.
  23. Apparently the Twins see things like the rest of you--three Catchers selected in the first ten selections--3rd,6th, and 9th.
  24. None of the State of Minnesota High School players were drafted. Apparently, they all believe that they can improve "their slot" significantly.
  25. It sure looks as if the Twins are planning on moving Mauer.
