  1. I'm lazy this week, here are some pictures to help tell Seth's story My highlight was talking with Terry Ryan for about ten minutes about scouting in general but mainly Spring Training. For those who haven't met the GM, he's extremely fan friendly, gladly talks to everyone about nearly everything involving the Twins; he also has a memory like a steel trap. I've been lucky enough to run into Terry at least every few months down here and he doesn't let me forget it. As he said to me, for someone who's a Cubs fan you sure do spend alot of time with the Twins. Terry asked my opinion on a few of the GCL guys from 2015, saying you saw them more then I did.He brought up my hometown of Springfield, Illinois, knew some of my relatives, baseball players/prospects from the area - that we had talked about in passing a year or so ago. As Palka entered the batter's box, I congragulated Ryan on his trade find as Palka had hit a monster homerun in his last at bat. As Terry said, you know just as well as I that you don't let Spring Training fool you and he preceded to breakdown Palka's swing and approach with me. The swing is pretty with the bat staying in the zone for a long duration yet it gets long leaving him suspetible to high K numbers and offspeed pitches. The new BoSox pitcher was a softer tossing lefty (the first pitcher was RHP Teddy Stanky 93-95mph) who had good secondary pitches. Palka fouled off the first pitch up and in, then the fortune teller Ryan said watch this, next pitch Palka swings at a slider away in the dirt and misses, the next pitch up and in for a ball, followed by another breaking ball in the dirt for the strikeout. Terry turns to me and says that's why we don't get too excited for one at bat.
  2. From the album: 2016 Spring Training

    Stewart, Gibbons, Gonsalves, Gordon, Thorpe
  3. Lewis said he is staying in EXST to keep up with his rehab but hopes to be pitching in For Myers (for the Miracle) by the end of the season. It would be aggressive but he has the stuff and tenacity to workout to get there.
  4. Gonsalves should still be here then, but if he turns it on like he did in 2015, he won't be here at the FSL All-Star break
  5. Not usually, if at all possible I take a picture of the box score just depending who's charting. I used to take one of the velocity and pitch type chart but apparently that's private information per coach Ramon Borrego. The BoSox don't care...
  6. Ah, you Northerners, that's how ya know you're NOT from Florida, 85 is hot? Try the backfields in August with GCL going, not uncommon to hit 110 with the heat index. Might make it up to 90 before you leave Seth!!
  7. The only one of the three that could come back to bite you in the ass would be Arcia. You can pretty much guarantee that he won't slide through waivers especially with the number of NL teams in rebuilding mode that would love to have a 24yo left handed bat with 20+ hr potential for free.
  8. I posted in another thread but here is the MiLB Schedule and MiLB workout groups. First intrasquad game is Sunday!
  9. Great! See you then, I'm usually out Friday and Saturday around 9-930a
  10. I'll look for you Friday afternoon if I'm still there Seth, worse case I'm sure I'll see you sometime on Saturday. If I remember correctly, there were not alot, if any, of the DSL kids til EXST last year.
  11. I said in another thread, but a comp to Mark Kotsay sounds fair. Kepler gets alot of love for his 2015 season but he needs to prove it was the REAL Kepler (which I believe it was) and not a mirage. Kepler doesn't have one outstanding tool but rather is good across the board; he's a tweener. Doesn't cover enough ground to be a CF daily and doesn't project to be a big power threat as a LFer. So ya I'm holding to Kotsay prime, 20/20ish .290/.350/.450/.800
  12. I'll make it short and sweet, No. Long answer: eh, maybe but more like a 10% chance even in that scenerio. Kepler still needs more seasoning in the minors to prove that 2015 was the real Kepler (and I believe it was) and not a mirage. Everyone has all this love for Kepler based on his 2015 stat line but the kid is a tweener, he doesn't have one outstanding tool but rather a good overall mix, Not great range to play Center, not enough power to play LF...I see him as a Mark Kotsay type player
  13. I've seen Santana with both groups, mostly infield but I have seen him working with the outfielders as well. He didn't look "lost" at least but I think many are underestimating just how valuable having Buxton in CF is defensively. Byron makes plays look easy, he glides in the OF and covers tremendous ground, his plus arm doesn't hurt matters either. As long as he posts up a .680-.700 OPS he's gotta be starting in CF, that's how much his D means.
