  1. The hip (hip flexor) was worse last year than what was led on, he said it hurt everytime he swung the bat. I'll be surprised if he doesn't get claimed by one of the cellar dwellers (Atlanta, Philly, Brewers, etc) He'll get another shot with another organization who doesn't have a glut of OFs and that can give a LH power bat a full season tryout. You'd think with the Twins sucking as bad as they are they'd give all the kids as many shots as possible but instead seem content with trying out other teams' castoffs. Best thing for Arcia is a change of scenery at this point.
  2. Well preinjury Benninghoff was looking like a 3rd to 5th round guy, so that kind of money is 350-650K. Since Benninghoff was an 11th Rd, the Twins can only give him 100K without it going against their draft pool, so the team needs to save ~300K (a guess) out of its' Top 10 round slot value in order to give Benninghoff the money he'll need to bypass Arkansas.
  3. That's what Baseball America is reporting
  4. Twins got Rortvedt to sign for 900K, which is ~240K under slot for the pick, nice move all around
  5. Deron Johnson has already said they're going to try him out at catcher first but yes it's a good fallback option for him. He's considered a bat first guy anyway.
  6. Mitchell Kranson 5'9 210lb C/UT aka "EL Gaucho" Known for his well manicured moustache Bulked up w weightlifting in the offseason Twins plan to use him as a C In the 10th Rd the Twins selected SS Brandon Lopez rated 432 prospect by BA
  7. 8th Round corner OF Shane Carrier a Sophomore out of Fullerton College (a Community College not Cal State Fullerton), kid went from 6'1 195 last year to 6'2 220. Right handed hitter with big pop 12 hrs in 186 AB. He's not ranked on any chart. Cool twitter handle @SonOfZeus27 His 2016 stat line in 186 AB .387/.426/.694
  8. He went in the 6th Rd to Texas, where he's gonna get a fraction of what the Twins had offered even with their 2nd round discount offer due to medical reports.
  9. 7th round Matt Albanese OF #431 in BA ranking
  10. There goes Kyle Cody in the 6th Rd to the Rangers, looks like he should have took the Twins 2nd round money last year even at a reduced rate will be higher than he gets now.
  11. This one looks like a little stretch here, maybe saving some $ in Alex Schnick. His HS is also Stephan Gonsalves' HS as well. BA rated him #498 out of 500
  12. BA did a podcast after Day 1 synopsis: All 4 guys have plus hit tool. Kirilloff, bat speed, power, above average runner, 60 arm he's an OF only 1B in circuits because teams needed it. Rortvedt hitting catcher, betting on the bat, shown little bit of power, Baddoo is "yabba dabba do", fits better in LF, painful looking arm action, plus bat Miranda great hit tool, hands fluid, defensive spot up in the air
  13. Round 3 from my memory, that's why you always want to sign those guys elsewise it can screw your whole draft because if that player doesn't sign, his bonus allotment gets erased from your pool.
  14. Interesting pick in prep Canadian RHPJordan Balazovic, he looks "projectable" as the scouts say. Hoping the Twins staff can hammer out his inconsistent mechanics. BA ranked him #134 in the draft
  15. Hackimer's Twitter handle is creative @HackAttackimer He also had a retweet about the Twins from Driveline's Kyle Boddy a couple months ago:
  16. Gives an idea of where the consensus of their scouting departments have them. Also gives a good idea if a player that was rated #250 taken #100 is a likely candidate to sign underslot.
  17. Twins go with a college senior with their fourth round pick in RHP sidearm reliever Thomas Hackimer. Got a twitter page, apparently loves Game of Thrones so he can't be that bad right? Here's what BA had the rated #191 prospect:
  18. They'll hopefully get his military commitment deferred but it could cost the Twins. What BA says about him:
  19. Yeah they are all HS guys so I'm not expecting more than 1 either. Still it seems the Twins might have saved a little money on Miranda although Baddoo might cost that savings, similar to what they did last year with Blankenhorn and Cabbage.
  20. Yeah everyone trying to ruin my Baseball Christmas stay on topic, BTW PMed the 3 of you my reply. Up next, I want to see one of the guys I got to see tryout for the Twins drafted: Luis Curbelo, Nick Derr, Henry Matais, Bryan Torres, Fransisco Thomas, Josh Winckowski, JC Flowers. Curbelo and Flowers should go off the board today.
  21. Really nice pick with Ben!! Another prospect I'll get to keep tabs on in GCL. I literally got pictures with 10 guys at WWBA and the Twins have taken 2 of them. All they need to do is grab Luis Curbelo, Nick Quintana or Tyler Fitzgerald and I'll have a trifecta.
  22. Spy I don't know what you're talking about, but I'm just basing it off of countless encounters with him personally as well as other fans I've talked with thru the years. During ST there was a group of 5+ old time Twins fans (couple of TDers) standing around just sharing stories of their interactions with Kohl, lets just say nothing nice was said. I have said this when comparing his attitude as to Gonsalves: On the other hand, Kohl comes off as very abrasive, distant, keeps to himself, if you can get one word out of him that's more than most.Just his personality, I don't fault him but it does make it really hard to root for him (one of the very few in the organization). Of course I said this almost a year ago today, Wow lot of worried peeps over Kohl Stewart who is pitching at High A and won't turn 21 until after the season.Don't be, he's looked good for being one of the youngest players in the league and his .337 BABIP shows that he's been unlucky thus far. He's been working off and developing more his secondary (change and curveball) than just his fastball. If he stays the entire season in Ft. Myers it's not a bad thing, consider this a learning season. The K rate will go up from 4.17, just don't expect a 9 or be upset if at 21 he starts the 2016 season in High A either.
  23. Exactly, from what I've seen in the couple of years around the Twins lower level teams, they seem to put a bigger emphasis on drafting good character/moral guys than most organizations do. The exception being Kohl Stewart.
  24. There goes Kirilloff and I have a new best friend in the GCL. OF first off but 1B is his likely future.
