  1. Hey I'm a Cubs fan, you don't have to tell me that, thus the drafting of advanced college hitting prospects (with defensive position questions) has worked well of late: Kris Bryant (most didn't think Bryant was a 3B in the future), Kyle Schwarber (most didn't see him at anywhere but DH/1B), Ian Happ (played nowhere too well) the last three drafts where they've had a first rounder.
  2. Rooker gives good reasons to like all offensively but if you're taking him you, you know that he doesn't play a premium position and that he's old for the draft.
  3. JJ Schwartz doesn't even catch anymore for Florida, he's the third string catcher behind (Mike Riveria- who will be drafted before JJ) and Mark Kolozsvary. Anyone who says Schwartz is a catcher has never seen him behind the plate. Sure he has a decent stick but he's a 1B/DH
  4. Smith has been getting the Matt Thiass comps from last year's draft. A bat first quick riser with no real defensive ability.
  5. He still needs a third pitch, the changeup, needs work, you can get by with two pitches but not as effective usually. That's why I was saying bullpen work as of now, he's got a great FB/SL combo and he commands both better than average. He also needs to show that he can handle the workload without fizzing out, he threw maybe 120 innings last year combining all EXST, Instructs, and MiLB levels.
  6. As President of the Fernando Romero fan club even I will say he's not ready for the show yet especially as a SP. If you just needed a few innings of RP then he's probably close but no need to move him off starting yet.
  7. What do you want to know about him? I have unfettered access to him and thanks to the team's English Teacher, Grace, conversing with him is a breeze.
  8. Seth....Graterol is still too low. He just hit 100 on Monday and showed off a frisbee slider. What Brus thinks about his ranking:
  9. But are you okay if in three-four years Greene is turned into a shut down closer because he could never develop quality third pitch or honed his curveball as a frontline starter? Then if you don't take Hunter and does turn that curveball into gold and adds a cutter, are you okay watching him star SD or Cincy's rotation for the next decade? Instead you took McKay or Wright who turned into a good quality #3 MLB starter from the get-go. Those are the questions Twins' fans need to ask themselves.
  10. Players who are eligible for the draft: ---High school players, if they have graduated from high school and have not yet attended college or junior college; ---College players, from four-year colleges who have either completed their junior or senior years or are at least 21 years old; and ---Junior college players, regardless of how many years of school they have completed So the two were at least 21 at the time of draft in 2016
  11. more or less publications have been doing so in recent years, In the BA Prospect Handbook they've put not only the 20-80 scouting scale but have also added a Risk assessment of Low, Medium, High, and Extreme. I am not a scout but from what publications I have seen McKay as a LHP is a 45-50 now and a future 55-60 with low to medium risk FB 50-55/55-60 CV 40-45/55 COM 50/55-60 Hunter Greene is a 35-40 now and a future 65-70 with high to extreme risk FB 65-70/75-80 CV 35-40/50 COM 40-45/50 Wright is a 45-50 now and a future 55-60 with medium risk FB 55/60 CV 45-50/55-60 COM 45/50-55
  12. Yes they can negotiate with agents/advisors, they are the only team that technically can at this point. There are no reports or leaks out on any player in particular but you can bet good money that Falvey/Levine have kicked the preliminary tires on what it would cost to sign the Top 5-7 players available at 1:1. But it sounds like they're still trying to figure out who best fits their needs now and in the near future.
  13. There used to be a waiting period but they created the Trea Turner rule after the Nats-Pads-Rays deal in which everyone knew that Turner was the PTBNL but he still had to remain a Padre until the magic day. That rule has already been used since in the Padres-Red Sox deal for Kimbrel where the Padres acquired Logan Allen (a 8th Rd pick but 1st Rd talent in 2015 Draft) who had been drafted in June 2015 and traded 5 months later.
  14. As a pitcher, ya a #3 maybe a #2 so a 2.5-3.5 WIN pitcher. At the plate, his bat is getting a future 60 grade with a 70 grade raw power, and 60 game power, which would make him a 3.5-4 WIN offensive player
  15. The bullpen session had been scheduled for a while per Jim Callis/Jon Mayo, completely in lines. At worst, Greene missed 2-3 starts of his HS season. Greene holding himself out the last starts of HS season is no different than a star college football player sitting out a bowl game. At some point, the risk is not worth the reward. Opinions have already been formulated on Hunter's abilities and 2 more starts were not going to change that.
  16. For 2017, Slot Value for 1:1 is 7.7M, Slot value for 1:3 is 6.6M. Under the restructured Draft System (2012 to current), No 1:1 has ever got more than the 6.5M that Swanson got in 2015. If Greene goes in the Top 5 (which most indications are), he's going to take home 5M or so, so I think he'll be okay.
  17. I'd be shocked if he slipped past #3 to San Diego, so not exactly costing him big bucks
  18. For those that are not subscribers to BA the short of the article: Carlson has a close relationship to fellow Minnesota pitcher Logan Shore Carlson changeup is advanced as he started throwing that before a breaking ball Carlson slider got help from Shore Carlson started doing Yoga to help with his poor flexibility this offseason Carlson is big fan of long toss and Driveline pulldowns (throwing with weighed balls) Carlson FB was mid 90's this spring, Carlson SL was low 80's this spring, graded a future 50-55 on the 80 scale (last year was 35-40) Carlson CH graded a future plus pitch
  19. Vasquez has a plus to plus plus breaking ball, not much of a fastball in terms of velo or movement but he tosses one hell of a bender. I've heard many top Twins pitching prospects say they wish they could throw it. His first season, he threw it maybe 25-30%, this ST, he was throwing it damn near half the time if not more.
  20. Side note on Thorpe, he shaved his head before the game and grew out the mutton chops and I wish I was kidding.
