  1. You think getting Saunders and Sanchez/Johnson at 2B makes us close to .500 and possible contenders?
  2. By starting to get expensive, do you mean hitting arbitration years? P.S., don't forget no Morny
  3. I appreciate the link...but I didn't see a demand in there. Did I miss it?
  4. PR talk...saying what people want to hear...highly doubt they give him a shot to be a Super-Two. They'll say he needs some seasoning in AAA. Do you have a link to Gardy's demand? I'd probably say Maestro and Carroll is even less appealing. I have high hopes for Hicks, whenever they decide to bring him up...
  5. Won't be Hicks...not to start the season...
  6. If you think 80M is low, wait till next year and the year after...
  7. did I disagree with you?
  8. Fangraphs has him at 2.5
  9. Their ERA+s the last 3, 4 years aren't even close...Correia hasn't had a ERA+ over 88 in the last three years. Saunders has never had a full season where he had an ERA+ as low as 91. Correia hasn't posted an ERA+ over 97 in the last 5 seasons and while he did 6 seasons ago, he only had 8 starts that year. Saunders has posted an ERA+ over 100 the last two season.
  10. Twins were dead last (30th) in Ks last year. The next team up (29th) had 143 more than we did. The difference between 29th and 14th was less than 143. Better have defense behind these guys, cause our best K pitcher (not best pitcher) had over a K per IP and he's gone. Our defense has gotten worse this offseason, which is hard to do.
  11. I'm not sure Saunders wouldn't be our best starter going into 2013 if we got him. Diamond was a rookie last year and didn't overly impress the 2nd half. I like him, I'm hoping he does well, but at this point I don't think it's a stretch to say Saunders would be, quality-wise, our best starting pitcher in 2013 if he signed...at worst our 2nd best.
  12. For me, the only thing that would give me pause is our defense...cause our defense last year was bad and it got worse this offseason. IMO
  13. Saunders is 31. Hardly well into his 30s. On a 3 year deal, he'd be 34 when he got done with us (if he wasn't traded after two, cause no rule says he has to stay the whole three). What do you realistically see our rotation looking like in 2015? As far as realistically being competitive in 2015, I believe that's a pipe dream.
  14. Saunders is a better pitcher than Correia...it's not even that close. A 3 year deal for him would be a good thing and wouldn't hurt us in the future at all. Yes, he does fit the Twins style, but if Ryan was adamant about switching pitching styles, he'd have canned Gardy and Anderson already. The kind of pitchers the Twins target...ones that fit their philosophy...are less expensive to sign and keep. So, since we'll be sticking with that for another couple years, Saunders is a good fit. He does the Twins style very well.
  15. If there was a pitcher on the market that suits the Twins style more than Saunders, I'd be shocked
  16. That's fine, but do you apply that principle across the board? In other words, all politicians, all CEOs, all policemen, all bankers, etc...basically anyone who does something for a living that you don't?
  17. Not only that, but a couple 3 or even 4 year deal right now doesn't hurt us monetarily in the future. 80M payroll for 2013, 20M more off the books by 2014, and another 7M in 2015 (at the latest). By 2015, we're gonna have Mauer and a bunch of pre-arbitration starters with a couple 1st year arbitration starters thrown in there. Payroll will continue to drop. Made no sense to not go and get TWO QUALITY pitchers, maybe a middle IF to improve this club. Doesn't hurt our ability to spend in the future, but does improve our team this year if only slightly and they'd always be a trade chip later. We don't want our team to be a little better this year when there's no downside to making it a little better? I don't get that logic.
  18. I seriously wonder if some of the people who post on this site either work for the Pohlads and/or Ryan, are related to the Pohlads and/or Ryan, or are friends with the Pohlads and/or Ryan. I'm not even joking.
  19. Morris had the same career ERA at home and on the road. Oh, and ERA+ accounts for a few different factors including ballparks. Career ERA+ is 105. And if you don't think MaddUx was a great pitcher, I don't know what to tell you...
  20. Last year our pitching staff threw 943Ks (and Liriano had 109 of them). 943Ks was, by far, the least of any pitching staff last year. The next highest had 143 more than we did. To put that into perspective....the difference between 29th in teams Ks and 14th in team Ks, was less than 143. Defense is going to be important.
  21. MIs add a lot, especially if they are quality fielders with a little pop or have good OBPs. This team might set a record for least amount of strikeouts in a 162 game season. Need people who can field.
  22. It was after meeting Vavra face to face when the two teams played each other. You know, I'm not on either side of this argument, I'm just saying I understand both sides of it. Both sides have legitimate stuff to fall back on in their argument. I presented both right here. I don't think either side should say the other is blatantly lying. It's all up for interpretation.
  23. Hicks is likely ready, but we won't see him till June at the earliest
  24. If you read the thread, I was already shown the error of my ways and I clarified what I meant. Thanks for the reminder again, though.
  25. He said the same thing last year, minus the 2 years in a row part
