    (Zach Britton replaced by Jake Arrieta) Top of the 2nd, Chris Colabello lines out to the right field corner. Brian Dozier grounded out to 3B. Drew Butera drew a 7 pitch walk. Pedro Florimon lined out to the gap in left-center. PS - Cory Provus is awesome!

    Top of the 1st, Eduardo Escobar and Josh Willingham each singled in the inning, but the Twins did not score. Bottom of the 1st, Kevin Correia got a weak grounder to 1B (Colabello), a pop-up to short left field (caught by Willigham), and a broken bat grounder to 3B (Escobar).

    The more I think about it... I think a good strategy for the draft could be to take Appel is he is there at #4. If you sign him, great, you have a solid #2 who could be a #1 signed. However, if you don't sign him, you could have two Top 5 Picks in 2014 when people believe that the talent is much, much better.

    Twins fans have all heard the story before about why Michael Cuddyer has such a nice autograph, but Troy Renck of the Denver Post tells his readers: http://blogs.denverpost.com/rockies/2013/02/21/michael-cuddyers-story-behind-his-impeccable-autograph/13403/ I miss Cuddyer's presence on the Twins, and I certainly hope he returns to health this year with the Rockies.

    I got the chance to talk to Carroll at Twins Fest. He has a definite goal, and that is to play when he's 40... so he has to get into next season. As for what Gardy is doing this spring, I think it completely makes sense. They know that Carroll can play all three positions well. He takes quality at bats. He is what he is and he can start any day. But, Gardy wants to see Florimon at SS And Dozier at 2B, and he should give them as much time as possible to see if they can start and what they can be. I think that's the right strategy. I think Escobar will be starting at SS after Florimon gets benched/released/sent down. I believe that he will be a long-term utility guy with the Twins. Very good glove at three positions, and he has enough bat to be a utility guy and part time starter. People forget, likely because he was in the big leagues for the White Sox all of last season until the trade, that he is still quite young. Again, my point on Dozier isn't that he is a future All-Star 2B (I ranked him 10th or 11th a year ago after his big year at AA). I just think he can be a solid regular, and I think the Twins and their fans would happily take that. I believe Escobar can be another in the Twins long-line of quality utility infielders (Newman, Reboulet, Hocking, Punto), who can also start for a period of time when necessary. And, I certainly am a fan of Jamey Carroll and what he is as a ball player.

    Windle probably isn't a guy to be considered at #4, but could he possibly fall to the Twins in the 2nd round now that there aren't as many compensation picks? Secondly, he's a Gopher, and as Twins fans, I think it's important to be supportive of the local college team. The Twins seem to have a good relationship with the Gophers and have selected/signed several players from the Gophers (Perkins, Hanson, Pettersen, Knudson, De Vries, Decker, etc.). WIndle is the Gophers Friday night starter and on March 15, he should get the start at the Metrodome against Indiana State and Sean Manaea.

    I think the occasional reminder of these policies is important for new members, but also for myself. I often forget some of these. I think they're all good. The one I tend to forget is the one about writing about how annoyed I am about certain topics coming up all the time (Butera, Correia, etc). I think it'd be good to re-post this on the front page monthly even though it is in the About Twins Daily page.

    This is great. I really like this and think it will be fun to update. Also, those near the Metrodome, Indiana State will be playing a series against the Gophers March 15-17... A matchup of Manaea vs Windle could be fun to watch on Friday night.

    Well put, and i agree with you... Positivity is good. Can't take it too seriously. I've learned (and we've all heard) that we can't do much about things we can't control, and I can't control what the Twins do, so I definitely don't want to take it too seriously. I'll continue to enjoy it regardless. That's not to say that winning isn't more fun, because it is, but I'm definitely not going to let it stress me out.

    I think that Colabello (or whoever) would affect the 2nd utility infielder more (or as much) as Butera.

    The Twins are not just (and shouldn't) give away Morneau or Willingham, and from all I've heard, they were offered very, very little for them.

    Swarzak is only missing like 2 weeks of spring training, so he won't be eligible for the DL and he is out of options. So are Fien and Wood and some other 'pen guys. Burnett's pretty much a given, I would say. Only reason he might not be is because he has an option remaining.

    If you click on the link, you can see that they are already sending a lot of guys who are competing for spots. Three 4th OF candidates. Lots of back-of-the-bullpen options... All the middle infield guys fighting for jobs. And several of the young WBC guys too.

    I just continue to enjoy the Colabello story. Obviously independent leagues are still pro ball and there is some really good talent in them, but to not spend a year with an affiliated team until you're 28 and to do so much in the last year is remarkable... Big league camp and the WBC. Gardy wants some pop on his bench, well, maybe it should be a right-handed hitter since there are so many lefties. It would be a remarkable story (even moreso), if he can even get a couple of days in the big leagues sometime this year!

He's at Twins spring training, and says he's the happiest man in baseball.

    I knew the BA would have Arcia quite high. when they did their AL Central Top 10 Podcast, John Manuel spoke glowingly of Arcia. He said that the Twins have two terrific #1 prospects (Buxton, Sano), and in many organizations, Arcia would be a #1. He also liked Gibson and Hicks as former #1 guys who still have high future potential. But, Manuel loves Arcia as much as me, and that's great to hear!
