  1. Ok, let's go with it, but this thread is going to be closely monitored... Ron Gardenhire led the Twins to some really terrific seasons for a decade. He is the same manager as he was at that time. Now, that's not to say that another losing season won't end his time with the Twins, but that's just the nature of the business more than saying he isn't a very good manager. He is. Terry Ryan left the job for four years and in that time, the farm system dropped off, and Bill Smith made some bad decisions. Ryan came back one offseason ago, and he learned a lot about the situation at hand in 2012. He made some terrific trades for the future of the Twins organization this offseason and added players to the system that give them hope for turning things around. He is a good baseball man who knows the game and he knows his job. He certainly has earned more than one year in his return.
  2. First of all, everyone is able to join the forum... However, that does not guarantee that they will be able to continue to comment. This forum has the potential to be deleted quickly depending upon how it goes.
  3. Every year, Gardy and Ryan work together on the roster... Gardy has often pushed for certain players, but then Ryan needs to make sure it's in the best interest of the organization. For instance, if Hicks shows well in the spring, Gardy may push for him to be on the Opening Day roster, but Ryan may say, "No, we're waiting until Memorial Day." Or something like that. There may be 40-man roster decisions too. If Gardy wants Slama on the roster, but it would mean someone would have to come off the roster, Ryan will need to push that. The nice thing is that it is a conversation where at the end, both agree.
  4. His recovery has been going well, as has been expected, but no timelines have been set at this point. I think that Gibson's recovery was unusually good in 2012, and players come back from it differently, so I think if estimated the same timeline for Wimmers (even though he had surgery earlier), it is conservative and realistic. If it's quicker, that's just a bonus, really.
  5. That video was pretty good. It made it's way around Twins sites after the Red Wings put those together for him and Slama (and someone else, if I recall).
  6. I don't see anything strange about the quotes. The Twins acquired some new players via trade and free agency. He has read all the reports on the players, but he wants to see them himself as well when he is evaluating. I think it makes perfect sense, and I would hope that he would want to do that.
  7. This is tremendous... there are so many intricate parts to a swing that all have to be in unison. When things are going well, it just happens. When it's not going well, it can be tough to find the piece that is throwing things off. But from this, you can see that there is a lot of potential with Dozier that just didn't show last year. This is certainly encouraging.
  8. Like I wrote, there's no guarantee that he'll make the New Britain roster, much less the Rochester roster.
  9. Something went wrong technically. When I opened it up, it would only allow one person to join the chat... myself. We'll figure it out and do it again sometime soon.
  10. According to Jerry Crasnick (via Twitter), the Twins have signed veteran RHP Kyle Davies to a minor league contract. The deal does not come with an invitation to big league camp. The 29-year-old pitched for the Braes from 2005 to 2007 when he was traded to the Royals at the July trade deadline for Octavio Dotel. He was with the Royals into the 2011 season, but after going 1-9 with a 6.75 ERA, and attempts to turn things around in the minor leagues, he was released in August. He quickly signed with the Blue Jays organization where he pitched in AAA. However, he did not pitch at all in 2012 due to some shoulder issues. Overall, in seven big league seasons, he is 43-65 with a 5.59 ERA. This is clearly just a move for minor league depth and to give a guy an opportunity to get back into the game. It will be interesting to see where he is at health-wise, and if he is able to make the New Britain or Rochester rosters this spring.
  11. I really like Danny Ortiz... definitely overshadowed with all of the outfielders in the organization.
  12. Sorry ya'll! Due to technical difficulties (or user error in my case), I'll move the chat to another day this week. Let me know when works best.
  13. I wrote that right in the article... I had no intention of making anything add up, just checking to see how far I was off on various things.
  14. Not at all surprised his arm got a 75. Not sure if that number is positional at all, but he has a rocket. So do Hicks and Buxton.
  15. Someone could certainly make the case, but Prospect Rankings generally have very little to do with actual on-field production. It's about upside. Now, I think Arcia has All-Star upside, but Buxton and Sano's upside is higher.

  21. Not everyone overlooked or missed him... but that's why people come to TwinsDaily.com every day, right?
  22. When I saw Ryan pitch in Beloit in 2011, I said/wrote then that his slider could get big league lefties out now, so I am fully on board the decision to make him a LOOGY. Those guys can make a lot of money too for a long time. Ryan's a very good guy, and very competitive, as intense as anyone I've seen.
  23. I considered injuries and DL time, but obviously that's completely unpredictable... There are a lot of teams that have guys that play over 150 games a year. I'm predicting the Twins will have a couple too. I don't know if they're the right ones, but we'll find out. Correct on my thoughts of Hicks taking over in probably early June. I also have Benson being up the full season, or most of it, and splitting time with Mastroianni at the start of the season and then sticking around later because once Hicks is up, Hicks'll play most every day.
  24. As is the case with all projections, including those that get used over and over on the interwebs. I definitely don't claim to have any perfect formula. I look at past history, and pay a little more attention to the last couple of years, age, trends, and put it all together.
