1. Yes, he is... that was referenced in the article.
2. Easy to say though when a perennial 90 win team gives you $150+ million.
3. This... well, the draft pick part of this.
4. Kevin Gausman was my pick for the Twins to take in the 2012 draft. That said, I'm really happy with the Byron Buxton selection!
5. Santana and Hunter signed extensions with the Twins to keep them around, and the Twins offered both of them fair deals when they left. I don't think anyone is terribly upset with how the Twins played the Baker situation. Balfour was coming off of missing basically three years with arm injuries. Dickey... well, everyone gave up on him too soon because everyone would have let him go after that year. But yeah, every team has guys they wish they would have kept, guys they wish they would not have signed, and good minor league signings and bad regular free agent signings.
6. And not just add up their contracts, but add a 10-25% more because if the Twins would have kept them, they would likely be making significantly more than they are now.
7. I'd say that there is no correlation, but maybe there is some correlation to how a team does in the final 2 weeks of spring training to the regular season. At that point, the rosters are generally down to 30 and the starters are playing 6-7 innings instead of 2-4 innings.
8. I did get confirmation from Hocking that it was his line (via Twitter)... I think it's hilarious.
9. Yup, Hopefully Luke gets another shot soon. And, Tolbert didn't get a spring training invite, but good note.
10. Added these two... I had Waldrop in my notes. Not sure why I didn't type it! Missed Towles... thank you!
11. B-Game Lineup for game starting now: Hicks CF, Rosario 2B, Benson LF, Colabello 1B, Dinkelman DH, Pinto C, Sobolewski 3B, Boggs RF, Santana SS, Deduno SP
12. Twins Lineup: Darin Mastroianni CF Eduardo Escobar SS Joe Mauer DH Josh Willingham LF Justin Morneau 1B Ryan Doumit C Chris Parmelee RF Trevor Plouffe 3B Brian Dozier 2B Liam Hendriks SP Orioles Lineup: Alexi Casilla 2B Manny Machado 3B Lew Ford DH Jackson RF Danny Valencia 1B Trayvon Robinson LF Navarro 2B LJ Hoes CF C Robinson C Jair Jurrjens SP

14. If you’re like me, one of the fun things to do during spring training is to read through all of the box scores. They’re long, and full of names as starters are just getting a couple of at bats and managers are wanting to see their role players and non-roster invitees. It’s a good reminder of the offseason transactions and who signed where. That’s important for the big free agents, but it’s also fun to see where the lesser-known names and the minor league free agents signed. As someone who is coming up on ten years of blogging on the Twins, it’s also fun for me to see where former Twins players wind up. Some of the names are easily recognizable, and some of the players may not have even made it to the majors but ‘grew up’ in the Twins farm system. Now, this may not be a complete list of who is in big league camp. You may have seen on SportsCenter the other day that JD Durbin (aka The Real Deal) gave up a long home run to Edwin Encarnacion. Durbin signed a minor league deal with the Red Sox this winter after spending the past few summers in independent ball. So, check out the below list of 40 man roster guys and non-roster invites that are in big league camp right now, and be sure to point out who else you know is playing. Baltimore Orioles – Luis Ayala, Alexi Casilla, Danny Valencia and JJ Hardy are on their 40 man roster. Allan de San Miguel, Steve Pearce (drafted out of high school and spent 2012 spring training with Twins), Lew Ford and Jason Pridie are non-roster invites. De San Miguel is also on the Australian WBC team. Boston Red Sox – Craig Breslow and David Ortiz are on the 40 man roster. Last year’s Rule 5 selection Terry Doyle is a non-roster invitee. New York Yankees – Utility infielder Gil Velezquez in a non-roster invite. Toronto Blue Jays – RA Dickey and Henry Blanco are on the 40 man roster. Ramon Ortiz was a spring training invite. Chicago White Sox – Jesse Crain is on the 40 man roster. Jeff Gray and Steve Tolleson are non-roster invites. Cleveland Indians – Matt Capps and Matt Carson signed minor league deals with spring invites. Detroit Tigers – Torii Hunter got a very nice contract to be on the Tigers’ 40 man roster. Houston Astros – They found some reason to put Phil Humber on their 40 man roster. Los Angeles Angels – Brendan Harrison, Luis(!) Rodriguez and Trent Oeltjen are non-roster invites. Oakland A’s – Last year’s surprise team has Grant Balfour and Pat Neshek in their bullpen and on their 40 man roster. Texas Rangers – A couple of former Twins All Stars, Joe Nathan and AJ Pierzynski, are on their 40 man roster. Evan Meek, Eli Whiteside and Yangervis Solarte are in their camp on minor league deals. Atlanta Braves – Dusty Hughes got a minor league deal. Miami Marlins – Jon Rauch is on the 40 man roster while Kevin Slowey inked a minor league deal with a spring invite. New York Mets – A couple of oldies but goodies are with the Mets. Johan Santana’s deal is finally in its final season. LaTroy Hawkins, a non-roster invite, has to be getting close to his final season. Philadelphia Phillies – Ben Revere and Delmon Young are on the Phillies 40 man roster. Young is likely to begin the season on the DL. Washington Nationals – Denard Span and Wilson Ramos are on their 40 man roster. Ramos is hoping to be ready for Opening Day, but it may not be very likely. Chicago Cubs – Matt Garza and Scott Baker are on their 40 man roster, and both could miss Opening Day. Darnell McDonald is a non-roster invite. Cincinnati Reds – Corky Miller is a non-roster invite. Milwaukee Brewers – Carlos Gomez turned out alright, finally, and got a nice contract via arbitration. Pittsburgh Pirates – They finally reached their agreement with Francisco Liriano. Garrett Jones will again make a lot of money in his second arbitration season. Arizona Diamondbacks – How about this… Michael Tonkin’s brother-in-law is on the D-Backs 40 man roster. Colorado Rockies – Michael Cuddyer is on their 40 man roster. Jeff Manship got a spring training invitation and in his first spring outing threw seven pitches and got a pop up and two strikeouts. Los Angeles Dodgers – Nick Punto and Matt Guerrier are on the 40 man roster. Punto is on Team Italy in the WBC. Peter Moylan got a minor league deal. San Diego Padres – Jason Marquis is on the 40 man roster, and Rene Rivera got a spring training invite. San Francisco Giants – Jose Mijares is on their 40 man roster. Boof Bonser is back with his original team on a minor league deal. So there you have it, a quick look around the other rosters to see which former Twins players are in big league camp. If I missed anyone, please let me know. The only teams not to have even one former Twins-related player in big league camp are the Tampa Bay Rays, the Kansas City Royals, the Seattle Mariners, and the St. Louis Cardinals.

16. Confirmed by Twins PR Director Dustin Morse.
17. In a tweet minutes ago by the Pioneer Press's Charley Walters, he wrote: I don't know if this is Minnesota Twins news completely, but it is Twins news on a couple of counts... Remind me of when former Twins utility infielder Denny Hocking's wife had twins. He was said to have said, "I'm really glad I don't play for the 76ers!"
18. I truly believe that Ryan had no intention of trading Revere after trading Span. However, he was offered a solid #3 type of pitcher (Worley) who is at the same service time level as Revere AND a pitching prospect who throws 95 and just one year ago was their top prospect and just 2 months ago was their #2 prospect. Ryan couldn't say no, and Revere is smart enough to get that.
19. I love that Colabello is making a name for himself on a bigger scaled with the Twin Cities and even the national level this spring. But let's all not forget that it was right here at Twins Daily that he did an interview several months earlier! The guy is terrific!
20. Yah, I had never heard uncoachable, and I Know he had a very good relationship with Vavra.
21. Hate hearing that he made one bad throw, then settled down, corrected his mechanics, and made a perfect throw?
22. As Nick said, Rosario wasn't a Top 100 by MLB.com. He also wasn't Top 100 by Baseball America or Top 101 by Baseball Prospectus. So, right now, he's not an "elite" prospect... If you want to go local, out friend Aaron Gleeman continues to say that Kyle Gibson wasn't an elite prospect before his Tommy John surgery even though he was ranked #35 by Baseball America at the beginning of that season. Now, I personally think that he should have ranked closer to where Keith Law had him (which I believe was around 65), and I do believe there is a chance that he could be the Twins starting 2B by June of 2014. Also, remember, he was the Twins 4th round pick, so yes, he went to the GCL and did OK. He then spent the next year at Elizabethton where he put up great numbers with Sano. He then played well at Beloit while learning a new position. The Twins always keep their young players in the Midwest League for the full year, including one Joe Mauer who advanced quite quickly the following season. So, the Twins have moved him up appropriately so far, and I think he can and will move up quickly in 2013. It's also normal for them to promoted several players right after the Florida State League All Star game in June. Let's see how he does... I'm excited about him, but I've been following prospects for long enough to know that nothing can be assumed about any of them, and they'll get their promotions when they should.
23. Little to none. They liked him a lot the last 2-3 years, and they like him a lot now.
24. I've written/commented many times on my stance on this topic, but just one more time: 1.) I really don't care about the Super 2 thing... As others have said, that's just about the money. I don't care about that... but I definitely care about keeping a player for an extra year. 2.) Others have said that the Twins do a good job of keeping their really good players by extending them to a long-term deal to buy out a couple of their free agent years. That is true, but this could potentially give them an extra year to make that type of long-term commitment. 3.) As I've written, the Twins have gone against this philosophy several times, including with Joe Mauer, Chris Parmelee and Liam Hendriks (and likely others). Most other organizations do factor in this business side of it. There is a reason that the Rays have all but said that Wil Myers will not be called up until May. (and they're certainly a model organization, right?) 4.) A week or so ago, MLB Trade Rumors looked up all of this for the top prospects (based on BA's Top 100) and gave the following dates (http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2013/02/service-time-considerations-for-top-prospects.html): Kyle Gibson and Aaron Hicks (or any player with 0 big league service time): Team control through 2019 if not called up until "late April" and Won't be Super 2 after '15 if called up "mid-June." Just seems like a No-Brainer to me.
