  1. The Twins announced, following the Sunday afternoon game in Detroit, that outfielder Wilkin Ramirez will be put on the 7-day disabled list, a result of his collision in left centerfield on Saturday afternoon. To fill the roster spot they have promoted catcher-outfielder Chris Herrmann. Herrmann has struggled in AAA. Through 38 games, he has hit .238/.311/.285 (.589) with five doubles and a triple. Although he has primarily caught, he continues to get time in left field. When he was in Ft. Myers, he got some time in centerfield, but that is hardly an ideal situation. This means that the Twins really do not have a backup behind Aaron Hicks in centerfield. [PRBREAK][/PRBREAK] Interestingly, had this move been needed a day or two earlier, it likely would have been Joe Benson promoted, but he was lost on Saturday when he was claimed by the Rangers. Ramirez will likely undergo more testing and the team will evaluate him over the next seven days to determine his status.
  2. Guys, I heard what happened when it happened. It makes sense for a guy to be taken out of hte game and miss a game for that type of thing. It is something that happens a time or two each year in the TWins (And likely all others) organizations. It's not a big deal long term, but it has to be addressed. THe TWins, and Mientkiewicz are in the right here. But it's not worth making much out of it.
  3. Yes, because all I care about is what is best for Hicks' long-term development. Thomas is what he is. He's not as bad as he was with the Twins last year, and he's probably not as good as he is playing in Rochester this year. But the most important thing is doing what is best for Aaron Hicks long term. What will help him be the best he can be?
  4. Yes, those should have been doubles.
  5. Yes, he has. He's little, but he can hit. Very solid ballplayer!
  6. Maybe one, possibly two, more starts. No worries. Just a matter of time.
  7. I'd move him soon. It's time. At that time, Buxton to Ft. Myers.
  8. 1.) The injury thing... they would be crazy not to protect him. He did have a fairly significant injury and surgery and an extensive rehab. Just because he's physically at 100% doesn't mean that he should just be thrown into the big leagues. He's got work to do. 2.) The consistency... It's pretty clear that this is a real thing, it's a legitimate concern for the Twins, and even Gibson acknowledges he doesn't know why he's been good only every other start. Finally on Saturday, he put together two straight good starts for the first time this year. 3.) The investment... Again, I encourage this already because it just makes business sense and this is a business, but I think it takes away from Deduno and especially Walters and how they were doing to say that it had to be Gibson called up. I think it would be a smart business decision, but the Twins have shown time and again that that isn't an issue. It was discussed in the spring, and it is again now. The TWins have ridiculously kept Hicks in the big leagues this whole time despite it costing them time and years. If it wasn't for the pitching issues on this team, Arcia would likely still be up despite his offensive and defensive struggles. They have proven that money is not the issue. My thought is that the Twins should always do what is best for the top prospects. I don't agree with what they're doing with Hicks. I think that it is fair for Terry Ryan to want to see Gibson put together 4-5 good starts. He now has thrown very well in three out of four starts. He's continuing to get better. I don't care that he's 25. Two years of development were derailed. Not much he could do about that. Doesn't mean he can't be a very good pitcher.

  10. On Saturday, there were several stories to follow for the Twins' minor league teams. Kyle Gibson was back on the mound, looking to put together back-to-back good starts for the first time this season. How did he do? New Britain finished a suspended game and played a second game. Matt Summers was terrific in Ft. Myers. Jorge Polanco was very good and JO Berrios was back on the mound for the Kernels. The big news of the night is that DJ Baxendale has been promoted to New Britain. Baxendale was the Twins' minor league pitcher of the month for April, and in 28 innings in May, he has not allowed an earned run.[PRBREAK][/PRBREAK] Lefty Matt Tomshaw will head to Ft. Myers from Cedar Rapids to make a start for the Miracle. It’s quite possible that there will be more moves. Check out what happened in the Twins minor league system on Saturday: Rochester Red Wings 4, Charlotte Knights 1 Box Score People question the Twins’ brass for saying that Kyle Gibson has not been consistent. 12. I'm pretty sure that Sickels would rank him higher now. He has some good stuff, and he has know-how, and he improves. People worry too much about front-end or back-end or mid-rotation starter. They all make about the same number of starts. No one should ever look for a pitcher to be an Ace. Not many of them. Baxendale isn't that, but he's been pretty good. Let's see how AA treats him.
  13. Alright, seriously, the "consistency" thing is getting old. It is 100% accurate as it relates to Gibson. Here are the stats before tonight, Entering the game, Gibson’s ERA in odd starts was 0.50 (2 ER/35.2 IP) but in his even numbered starts he had posted an ERA of 9.00 (17 ER/17.0 IP)" So, it is good to see him finally put back-to-back good starts together. As for Baxendale, this is great news for him. Very well deserved.
  14. I'm a little surprised by the reaction here. I definitely don't like "attitude" stuff coming out after a guy is gone. I think that's pretty weak. I've known Joe for several years, and there was a lot of frustration. This is a guy who does not like to fail. He has all the tools, but he just struggles mightiliy with failure, and it's such a big part of the game. I always said that if he was able to slow the game down, he could be great. It hasn't happened. There certainly were some issues and legit issues that the Twins had with him, but that went both ways. I just am happy for Joe and I really hope that he can find it in himself to relax and enjoy playing this game.
  15. It's just one little Twins Daily article a day...
  16. actually, Texas has the 2nd best record in baseball, so the only team we don't know whether they would have passed on him was St. Louis. I've been able to break several stories over the years. The Colabello one was a lot of fun to break. This one... not as much. I've met and talked to Joe on several occasions. Really good guy, very competitive, very hard worker... His football mentality was his greatest strength and his greatest hurdle. I sincerely hope that a change of scenery is exactly what he needs and he gets another shot in the big leagues sometime!!
  17. I assume he will move up after the All Star break as well.
  18. Have a great time! Looking forward to your thoughts!
  19. It'll be great to have such a subject matter expert on the show!! Enjoy!
  20. The question wasn't about 2013. I said 73 wins all along would be optimistic, even for me. But I do like the direction. I do have confidence in Ryan. I don't know that Gardy's going to get a chance to keep going, and I have mixed thoughts on that. I don't really know what Anderson could do with what he's been given, though I've never thought he was as good as he was given credit. The question about about 88 wins by 2016, and I'll choose to be optimistic on that one. I do think good things are happening in the system. I'm not naive enoguh to think that everyone will pan out, but I'll take my chances.
  21. Some things need to stay within a clubhouse and that's fine with me. I'll respect that. It isn't anything legal or off field though. Not a huge deal. And, Rosario has nothing to worry about with Michaels or Mejia, I'm sure. Mejia spent two years in the GCL. he's an athlete. Good speed, very talented, but it's just 13 games. But his name is on the radar, for sure. He actually got off to an amazing start tow years ago in the GCL and then ended up posting a very low OPS there. Last year, he was good. He should be a top player at elizabethton too.
  22. I would have thought I'd have had that habit broken long ago.
