  1. According to LaVelle Neal and the Star Tribune, the Twins have outrighted RH RP Sam Dyson. http://www.startribune.com/sam-dyson-declines-minor-league-assignment-from-twins-becomes-free-agent/564260612/ Dyson rejected a minor league assignment and became a free agent. He had shoulder surgery in late September and is likely to miss the 2020 season. The Twins made the move early. He was eligible to be offered a fourth season of arbitration. The Twins would have been non-tendered at that time.
  2. So. the funny thing is that this is really a thing. People don't know who to get upset with. In the Arizona Fall League, you'd see the ump wait, hear the call in his ear, and make the call. The batter would turn, react and the ump would point up.. Then the players would look up annoyingly at the Trackman machine while huffing and puffing their way back to the dugout.
  3. Will be curious to see if the new ballpark in Arlington plays the same as the 2019 one. I would think it would be very similar. Joey Gallo played CF for them a lot this season. And, while Rosario isn't a great defensive outfielder, not sure he wouldn't be a better defensive OF than Gallo (though not sure he would be either). I think he stays. I don't think that the Twins should just trade him just to trade him. They should get a solid #3 starter for him, a reliable guy and maybe a prospect, or a couple of good prospects for him. Otherwise, just accept the HR and the hot steaks along with the wild moments and the frustrating ABs.
  4. I agree.. my point is that all Twins fans talk about is trading Rosario for pitching and how bad he is... so fans will be disappointed if the Twins trade him and don't get anything for him, but we're not helping by talking about how bad he is... it's a circle...
  5. Gonsalves is already on the 40-man roster, so he either stays on it, or he has to be DFAd. I think he'd be claimed. If not, he'd be eligible for the Rule 5 and he might be considered.
  6. Man... Twins fans want the team to trade Rosario for some quality pitching (prospects or current)... and then everything yo read, from Twins fans, online is how terrible he is... Teams are going to read all this from Twins fans and really want to trade for him now!! Also, I think we need to stop bashing 32 and 109.. and an .800 OPS. I've seen way too many Twins teams where we dreamed of having a guy or two with an .800 OPS. Obviously it needs to be taken with context but still. I'll take that any year...
  7. Rooker doesn't need to be added, so that's a question for a year from now... though likely a topic for about 7-8 months from now when he is added and called up. Wisler wasn't a signing. It was a claim and things could happen with him. Could get a shot to work with Wes Johnson this spring. Could be DFAd any time during the offseason. Gonsalves was a top pitching prospect, and deservedly so, starting at a young age and in the low minors. He continued to do well for a couple of years, and last year was a lost year due to injury. He might still be in their picture and plans. Hildenberger is in a similar boat... though again, both certainly are more on the bubble now than a year ago. I'd say that is true for several.guys, including Stewart, maybe even Gordon from a position player standpoint.
  8. Greg Deichmann was mentioned... he was a Twins draft pick out of high school who was ready to sign but slot money due elsewhere didn't happen so they couldn't sign him. He went to Michigan instead.
  9. In this week's Get to Know 'Em podcast, Seth talked to prospect Travis Blankenhorn about his powerful 2019 season, his goals and his high school days as a three-sport athlete. Also, we talk to outfielder LaMonte Wade about his season, getting called up to the big leagues, getting hurt and contributing mightily in September.Travis Blankenhorn was a star, three-sport athlete in Pottsville, Pennsylvania, growing up. We discuss the sports he played and how good he was in all three sports. He had a very nice 2019 season and was named the 2019 Twins Daily Minor League All Star second baseman. He spent three weeks in Ft. Myers before being promoted to AA Pensacola where he hit 18 doubles and 18 home runs in 93 games. He is a candidate to be added to the Twins 40-man roster in November. He also talked about what analytics and statistics were most important to him. We discuss it all with him. LaMonte Wade was called up in late June and made his big-league debut in late June. He returned about a week later and got hurt. He rehabbed and was brought back to the Twins on September 1st. He played nearly every day for the Twins down the stretch. We talked about all of that, plus there was a section about his beloved Baltimore Ravens and their big match up coming up on Sunday night. Leave questions or comments below on this podcast. 11. Temps up north even in Cedar Rapids are getting cold... I'd expect Steve will be down in Ft. Myers shortly, probably trying to talk you into getting out on a course with him!
  12. The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have claimed right-handed pitcher Matt Wisler from the Seattle Mariners. The Twins are Wisler's fourth organization in 2019.Matt Wisler is a 27-year-old who began the year with the Cincinnati Reds. Before the season started, he was traded to the Padres. He pitched in 21 games out of the bullpen and posted a 5.28 ERA in 29 innings. On July 4th, he was purchased by the Mariners from the Padres. He finished the season with 23 appearances for the Mariners. In 22 1/3 innings, he posted a 6.04 ERA. In 51 1/3 total innings, he walked just 16 batters while striking out 63 batters. Wisler was the 7th round draft pick of the San Diego Padres out of high school back in 2011. He became a Top 100 prospect nationally before the 2014 and 2015 seasons. He was traded to Atlanta at the start of the 2015 season in a package that sent Craig Kimbrel and Melvin Upton to the Padres. Wisler made 19 starts in 2015 and 26 starts in 2016. Since then, he's mostly pitched out of the bullpen and struggled. But there are reasons to like this claim. As Parker notes, he has become a slider pitcher. Wisler is out of options, so should he remain on the Twins roster through spring training, he will need to remain on their 26-man roster or be put through waivers. Earlier this week, the Twins announced that they had DFAd outfielders Ryan LaMarre and Ian Miller, and infielder Ronald Torreye. Click here to view the article

  14. Things I've heard... but not inside scoop stuff.. It will all just depend on how many guys they feel they need to add and then how free agency and such go.
  15. It's a balancing act really because you want to protect the guys that you value and just don't want to lose... But you can't just add 10 players because those 10 can't be removed from the 40-man until spring training, so you have to be able to keep some open spots for free agents, or even have some 40-man roster guys who remain droppable too.
  16. There will be more DFAs (some may be a bit surprising)... Five of the players will become free agents moments after the World Series is complete. The Martin Perez decision needs to be made. Sean Poppen and Byron Buxton will be removed from the 60 Day IL. The Twins will have some tough Tender/Non-Tender decisions... (Offseason Handbook plug) I'll be writing up my 40-man roster adds article this week as well.
  17. Neff pitched well. Lewis was 2-5 with a double. Good game, and the Rafters won the championship.
  18. Royce Lewis will be competing today for the Arizona Fall League championship with the Salt River Rafters. Earlier today, he was named the AFL's 2019 MVP. He hit .353 with 9 doubles and 3 home runs. After a tough season, it's great to see Royce end the season on such a positive note!
  19. https://www.baseballamerica.com/stories/2019-mlb-organization-standings-and-league-champions/ While we all know that the most important purpose of the minor leagues is Player Development, there's nothing wrong with winning at the same time. With a record of 361-309, the Twins were fifth in baseball in minor league winning percentage in 2019. They were behind the Rays, Dodgers, Rangers and Diamondbacks. I do believe that 'learning to win' can and should be part of the development process.
  20. Bill Mitchell from Baseball America wrote about Twins RHP prospect Dakota Chalmers. He missed most of 2018 and the first half of 2019 due to Tommy John surgery (during which he came to the Twins from the A's in the Fernando Rodney trade). https://www.baseballamerica.com/stories/dakota-chalmers-makes-up-for-lost-time-in-arizona/#.XbRoyL3cm5Y.twitter Chalmers is expected to make the start for the Salt River Rafters in today's AFL Championship game.
  21. I think experiencing some challenges in the minor leagues can be a good thing. It's important to see how a player handles struggles and overcomes it. Does he trust the process or melt under it. Royce Lewis is going to be a star in time. He has the makeup to overcome difficulties, trust the process and keep working.
  22. Dan Hayes wrote an article for The Athletic about the season of Royce Lewis. It was frustrating at times, but he kept working. Now he's been one of the most impressive prospects in the Arizona Fall League. https://theathletic.com/1321973/2019/10/24/royce-lewis-twins-top-prospect-arizona-fall-league/ He struggled really for the first time in his career but continued to work on and trust the process. Hayes chatted with Jeremy Zoll who said,
  23. With the offseason upon us, the Get To Know 'Em podcast returns. Tonight, we talk about Tommy John surgery with RHP Tyler Wells, and then talk about home runs, getting traded and getting The Call with OF Jaylin Davis. In 2018, RHP Tyler Wells was selected the Twins Daily Starting Pitcher of the Year. Unfortunately, his 2019 season was over before it began. He felt some elbow pain before spring training, tried to rehab, but in late May he had Tommy John surgery. We discussed the entire process from initial pain, to "the pop," the surgery and early stages of his rehab. Wells will be a frequent (bi-weekly) guest of the show, and we will keep updated with his progress. But he is also open to answering any questions you may have about Tommy John, pitching, and really anything you may want to know about the minor league life and experiences. The second guest of the podcast was OF Jaylin Davis. It's likely that Davis wasn't a household name to Twins fans, and maybe even Twins prospect fans, but his career trajectory took off in 2019. He began at AA Pensacola, jumped up to AAA Rochester and hit a combined 25 homers before the July 31st trade deadline. He was sent to the San Francisco Giants as part of the Sam Dyson trade. He reported to AAA Sacramento where he added another 10 home runs before being called up to the Giants in early September. We discussed his season, the power outburst, getting traded, getting called up and much, much more. Leave questions or comments below on this podcast.
