  1. Gardy's always liked "bat handlers" batting second. Meaning, put the ball in play and not strikeout. Suzuki does do that. Get em on, get em over, get em in I guess.
  2. The other thing is that the past few Opening Days have had about as much excitement as a wet fart. Maybe I'm in the minority but I want to see a Sunday Night feature game in Cincinnatti against the Cubs or the Cardinals or something. With the Cinci parade coverage and everything. Nothing against baseball in Australia (I think its great) but I I would schedule the game any other time so as not to interfere with what could be, and I think should be, a more special occasion.
  3. I caught the last two innings. Evidently there was a rain delay? The back half of the Dodger bullpen is just silly. The event is cool but the other 28 teams have 9 days of spring training left so the fact that this one counts is kinda weird. But I think the main thing is it started at 3 AM CDT so the timing couldn't have been worse for many of us.
  4. Here's a scouting question. Its becoming clear how extension is a key component of the equation time = distance / velocity, where Time is a better measure of the real velocity of a pitch as perceived by the batter. What are scout doing to measure extension?
  5. Relevant username if there ever was one.
  6. It is so rare to get through a season without an injury to a starter, I'm sure Deduno will get 10+ starts before its said and done. I am just happy to have a little depth for once. Should make the season a lot more bearable.
  7. I wonder if Plouffe should take a page out of the Dozier playbook and do something about the leg kick. Seems kinda big and kinda late.
  8. If you squint at the past couple decades you can kinda see the team's personality reflected by who plays up the middle. Probably a coincidence. But maybe the team will assume Suzuki's, Hicks' and Florimon's personalities this year now that Mauer's on 1B.
  9. I think Morales makes a lot of sense for this team. The market's weak, they'd only give up a ~45th pick, and by signing a switch-hitting DH they can keep Bartlett and one extra out of options guy on the roster this year, or claim a waiver pickup or whatever. Dozier Mauer Hammer Morales Arcia not a bad top 5 at all. I'd think different if Kubel or Colabello had done something to get me excited but from what I've seen, there's probably nothing we'll miss.
  10. Pinto looked good to me. Threw out two runners (but only one was called).
  11. Hicks will get the job. Antony is just moaning that he's not playing like Kirby Puckett, which he never was to begin with.
  12. I will say this about Terry Ryan: he takes responsibility for the product on the field. I have never heard him blame players by name like this before. Unbelievable. I hope this isn't our GM in the waiting.
  13. I will say that while the Twins have 2 weeks of free control, what I would do is sit Worley down and tell him his only shot of making the club is if he can beat out Fien for the 7th inning spot. Tell him he has 1 inning. See if he can dial it up to 95-96.
  14. Yeah your comp is Nick Blackburn. The ages don't lineup perfectly but its the same story. Guy with lackluster stuff suddenly becomes less than 100% perfect with his command, because of injury, psychology, mechanics, age, whatever, and then he gets shelled. There's just no room for error. Even when they hit all their spots, upside is 1-2 years of 4.00 ERA pitching, eg. Worley cca. 2011-2012, Blackburn cca. 2008-2009 or Diamond cca. 2012. This is not a new story, esp. to the Twins.
  15. Interview with Steinbach about Suzuki and catching stuff on espn Twins page. http://www.1500espn.com/sportswire/twins#
