Benson has been hurt the last few years which certainly impacted his numbers. Also with the complete lack of CF in the high minors, all he'd have to do is put together a few good weeks and they'd have an excuse to send Hicks down. So I really don't think he was as far away from the majors as some are saying.
Now these idiots are speculating he Twins won't bring in Perkins if they score another run. Does the stupid save statistic infect everyone's brains now?
I can come to grips with what the Twins did. They should have had him in AAA instead of a 4th outfielder. But Dick Bremer couldn't tell a ballplayer if one stepped on his foot. He's still a mouthpiece for the franchise and it makes the franchise look foolish.
Right after Dick was talking trash about him. One of the most "unpredictable," "emotional" players in Twins history. How about Gardy & the Twins messed up on this one? What an *******.
Maybe if they had center fielders playing center field, these types of incidents would not occur. It is ironic that about 6 hours after they dump Benson they (likely) need a center fielder.
What's strange is that if Benson could have put together a few weeks of decent production in Rochester, he could have been called up, perhaps even for the rest of the year. Why drop him for Drew Butera, or all the scrub pitchers still on the 40 man?
1. There is a difference between payroll discussion and petulant whining. 2. Expecting a team coming off two 90 loss seasons to be substantially better is not reasonable, no matter how much money spent in free agency. Not that I'd want them to so foolishly waste resources on said 90 loss team. 3. I don't assume Mauer will fall off substantially in 2 years. He's the best hitter I've ever seen.
Agreed. I don't understand why every other thread degrades into "Twins are cheap, derp derp!11!!" Trading Mauer now makes no sense. The only thing that makes less sense is pre-emptively bitching that the Twins wouldn't spend the mythical savings the right way. It sucks that they're losing now, but it's not exactly unexpected.
Swinging at a pitch outside the zone after walking the bases loaded, then the backup catcher trying to tag up from 3rd on a pop fly to Pedroia. Twins baseball.
