  1. You know, why not move starters back a couple days or even let them go on a every 10th day rotation in, say, September. Earlier if you have a huge lead. Let the Dawg days be a good excuse to call guys up and rest your starters for the playoffs. Look at Boston this year. They could let their starters take a week off easy. But will that be enough to give the arms time to bounce back?
  2. The "Opener concept" is nothing new. Its used in Little league everywhere. Start an ok pitcher and bring in a better one to change the speed on hitters. Harder to adjust Personally, I think it is a fad that will fade away. Starters don't like being bumped for a stop gap to start.
  3. Like I said.... CLUTCH!!!!! i'M SO SMILING TODAY.../.
  4. Me too. All those critics that say things like Joe is no good or that they want Joe to hang it up.... just set themselves up for being proven wrong in the most embarrassing way. Glad to see Joe showing his critics that he IS STILL CLUTCH. Thanks to Fox for putting it that way. I hope he gives it one more year.
  5. Good timing for Logan to collect 5 hits. If he plays like this, sign him to a 2 year extension. If he reverts back, trade him next year at the deadline.
  6. But Nick... last year he almost hit .300 after his adjustments. You don't go from .298 to .156 unless there is something seriously wrong. The difference is the foot injury. I think he will be fine come spring.
  7. It is NOT nonsense. I watch all the games. He was trying to pull everything. Like Sano. He was favoring his broken toe by swinging off his heels. He was waving at pitches instead of driving the ball. His "pitch recognition" was fine last year. He did a less pronounced leg kick and had his mechanics solid. This year's injury messed with his mechanics.
  8. Seems to me that a guy that is "hurt all the time" wouldn't win a platinum glove. And a guy that dives for balls and sacrifices his body for your amusement deserves more respect than that.
  9. I think a closer has to be the guy that has the mentality that he is going to "shut it down." A great closer can shorten the game. Mariano Rivera came in and it was game over. So I don't believe a closer is "whomever."But guys like him are rare. I think the vote might come down to ....who is most likely to strike out the side in the 9th. We don't have one of those guys on this roster. So it is like a rotation thing.... Ok, but we still need to look for that guy. I'd like to see some of the young guys come up... like Jake Reed.
  10. Buck is our starting CFer. He is a platinum glove winner and last year he actually hit close to .300 near the end of the season. I thought he had figured out a lot of stuff, but the injury made him over swing to show he was still good... even though he wasn't. Same with Sano. When he is ready to resume his role he gets called up.... control and arbitration considerations be damned. I'd tell him we want him long term and offer him an extension. The way to engender a player's loyalty is to be loyal to them.
  11. I say that allatime. JK too, sorta. No really, I am Nick.
  12. Ben, I always thought it was showboating when you disrespected someone or did a "look at me" gesture. Yeah, the arrow qualifies in my book. But Batista's bat flip and Rickie Henderson picking up a base are clear examples. My favorite saying about Reggie: "There ain't enough mustard in the world for that hot dog."
  13. He relies on his slider and with the middle finger injury he was unable to get it to bite. I appreciate his giving it a try, but maybe we should have started someone else instead of a guy with a hand injury.
  14. Sano was out of shape after leg surgery. He tried to yank everything 500 feet to left field and lost discipline. He went down, lost some weight and got back to basics hitting wise. He is more selective now and not trying to pull everything. Don't get me wrong, he is still a dead pull hitter, but he is looking at more pitches now and leveling off his windmill swing. I think he will settle in and be better for the demotion. Give it time.
  15. Seth, that is a great observation. If you want that outside pitch, you will get it...often. And a step into the pitch but slightly towards the plate moves the sweet spot on the bat a few inches outside on your swing. Then the "inside out" swing, or what I call the "push away" swing can drive the ball hard the other way because you have moved the sweet spot farther outside on the swing so that you hit it dead solid perfect. Kirilloff has that figured out already.
  16. Would like to see Gonsalves and Jake Reed come up. These guys have nothing more to prove at AAA.
  17. Good article Nick. Very good. I think that any team that wants to seriously compete needs to overspend for quality staring pitchers. The operative word there is "quality." Remember the Orioles late 60s early 70s staff? Palmer, Cuellar, Dobson and McNally? Yes a 4 man rotation. Anyway, Cleveland's rotation reminds me of those guys. So my point is ..... identify the key guys and pay them well. It is worth it. If nothing else think of the time the FO saves looking for a jewel in the scrap heap. Just step up and pay. Then you are not having to worry about how to win 8-6 ball games. You are planning for a lot of 3-1 wins. Gibby had a bad start recently, but he has learned how to pitch finally. He should be extended. He is a #2 or 3. Romero looks like a future Berrios. Gonsalves... geez, what does this guy have yet to prove at AAA? We got some good guys in trades. I want to see us bring up some flame throwers to see what they can do. Nobody much mentions Jake Reed or Bard. We know what Duffy can do. Lets audition some guys like Reed that have been waiting in the wings. I think we have the ability to develop a rotation with at least 4 lights out starters within the next two years. Maybe then it will be our turn to return to the WS
  18. You can answer this by just looking at the MLB logo. That's a picture of Harmon Killebrew
  19. Van, from your lips to God's ears.
  20. Let's just say, I am also a Dodgers fan now.
  21. I watched it twice. The second time I turned the sound off and played "Bad to the Bone" on my stereo. It was better that way. JK Parker. Thank you
  22. Hey, Mike, don't listen to me. I'm just saying if the Boss wants to pay him, its his deal. Maybe the family needs money. I see him pitch and he doesn't look terrible. Then he does. And with runners on. I keep hoping he'd get hot and shut his critics up. I'm pretty sure he'd clear waivers.
