This is the most likely landing spot for Liriano IMO. They have liked him in the past, almost pulled the trigger last year on him, and probably don't want to meet the asking price of prospects for Hamels or Greinke. Phelps makes sense for the Twins as well. -
I would have liked another start or two from Hendriks before sending him back down. His three starts before Monday were OK, perhaps something he could have built on. Looking ahead, perhaps they wanted to protect him from facing the Texas lineup while getting a couple of starts in AAA with a plan to call him back up soon after the all star break. Or maybe he was going down anyways with Walters coming back.

I would say a positive is that there appears to be enough bullpen depth that the Twins won't need to sign a reliever to a major league contract in the offseason, so all free money can go to the rotation (and maybe a RF if the Twins trade Span).

Do you really think the Twins would get much in value from him even if he was healthy? Letting him take the time to get healthy and hopefully come back and pitch decent might lead to a situation where the Twins can dump his salary in August, which is probably the best case scenario, just like when they acquired him in 09.
