  1. Pitching is struggling - there has to be room for Berrios.
  2. Burning an option or service time considerations are not the issue here. He'll be up at AA soon enough. If he does well there I think he debuts in September. Twins will want something good after another long season.
  3. I can't imagine Gardy and the coaching staff survive a third terrible season, their fault or not. It's probably about time, 12 years is a pretty good run in any significant leadership position.
  4. I imagine in general the Pohlads are pretty middle of the road when it comes to owners. They are conservative and prefer a profit, but there are plenty that are much worse. And surely plenty that are much better.
  5. While certainly possible, $100M+ seems a little high. If that was truly the case, teams would sell for even more than they currently are.
  6. Would you rather he didn't play? Doubtful they would bench Morneau.
  7. I imagine him or Doumit get a lot of time on RF with Arcia being most in trouble.
  8. You are aware that Ryan hasn't done this yet right? This is idle speculation - the odds are overwhelming this doesn't happen.
  9. I put it at least 50/50 he makes his debut in September. That is an appropriate timetable.
  10. It is definitely a factor, as the more years Price is away from free agency the cheaper the extension will be for those years. Those millions saved have value to franchise and influence the package they would give up.
  11. Any idea if McLouth is decent in CF? Hasn't played this year, barely played last, and numbers aren't too kind before that. A stopgap, one year CF would have been nice but I never really thought there was a good alternative. Kelly Johnson would have been a good signing, but going into a rebuilding year I didn't find it unreasonable Dozier a legit chance to play every day to see what they got with him.
  12. Yes, this is why it should have been Gibson. I still think there is a little flexibility on the back end, but there will be no competitive reason to push it.
  13. I'm not sure this is true. The Rays certainly have had elite prospects that they move quickly (as any team would), but they are generally in the Twins class when it comes to patience. The Rays would rather wait and have the peak years be in a Rays uniform before they trade them. Look no further than Will Myers, this is the opposite of getting him on the field ASAP.
  14. Maybe this is yet another example that merely looking at a stat line doesn't tell you everything. Scouts thought it was a little quick for his bat last year (it was altough he wasn't crushed) and his elite defense played up.
  15. I don't think Gibson is necessarily on a strict innings limit a la Strasburg, probably more of a range. Almost certainly will be shut down early. I'm upset with this move. What are they waiting for? Gibson is the pitcher that matters right now and has hope to contribute in the future, we don't need to see more 30 year olds.
  16. That "skill" would probably be weeded out as a playet moved up the minors.
  17. I'm shocked an elite high school athlete would try to increase their leverage to make more money.
  18. I agree with this completely.
  19. Maybe we don't disagree all that much. I would agree with you that Hicks wouldn't be on the opening day roster if he didn't have a good spring, but he wouldn't have been in that position if he hadn't had a breakout year previously in AA. I also don't understand who you can be critical of Ryan for saying he wants to win and then backs that up by keeping Hicks on the opening day roster. Perhaps he should have had a veteran in on a one year deal, but the options for that were very limited last offseason.
  20. And as mentioned why not let the kids try to win. Gibson should have been up two starts ago.
  21. These are of course separate issues. I actually think the timing mentioned regarding Arcia and Gibson are not quite accurate. I thought Arcia cleared the threshold and Gibson would need more time than suggested. I am especially curious on Arcia. In general I take the let them play and let service time issues sort themselves out later. Twins have plenty of money to play with.
  22. Interesting that from those quotes you came to those conclusions. I think Ryan is more talking about Hicks breakthrough in AA than performance in spring training and he went out of his way to say it was a competition throughout the spring.
  23. Yes. That would be a huge issue with the union and is generally an unethical move.
  24. This thread is more evidence that no matter what the Twins front office does it will be criticized. If they call up young guys it is either too early or they are cheap because they didn't sign a veteran. If they don't call someone up they are cheap because they don't want to start the clock. Or you could take the position of judging each move individually while making sure to point out that the decision of the front office is the wrong one.
