  1. Santana doesn't frequently exceed 100 pitches, IIRC. Keeps him fresh or something.
  2. If every starter was Santana, we would all trust Molitor's bullpen management
  3. Wacky Waving Inflatable Arm-Flailing Tubeman
  4. Is the impact of the lineup construction great enough to move players around in the order to potentially protect platoon hitters? In the 7,8,9,1 of Park, Castro, Buxton, Dozier that I used as an example, that's assumes they belong in those spots. If Buxton is hitting like he did in September, I hope he is not in the 9 spot. I really have no point to all of this except it would be ideal to employ platoon hitters near each other while breaking up their handedness if possible. I would really like to keep Castro and Rosario from slotting back to back in the lineup.
  5. I know that lineup position has largely been proven to not profoundly impact runs scored, but in some lineups the 7,8,9,1 is Park, Castro, Buxton, Dozier. I think that the opposition would rather not deploy a LOOGY to get Castro out in that case when they could save them for Kepler, Mauer, Rosario. Surrounding Castro with LHH would only increase his PA vs LHP.
  6. Exactly what I took from this piece. Just hearing the manager of the Minnesota Twins talk about different lineups is exciting. I might explode if its actually employed regularly. Far cry from play second, bat second; catcher bats third even if its Redmond.
  7. A part of me wants to believe that Dan mellowed out and decided to dedicate himself to ABW attributes for a time.
  8. Damn. I'm old. I remember the ESPN boards (Elysian fields), BYTO, and now here. Dis a nice lil site y'all got here.
  9. This is a quiet thread, considering there was mention of ABW. Good analysis of the impact of some decisions. Turner/Garver, Park/Vargas, Palka/ABW needed someone to S or get off the pot. Redundancy has a place on a 40-man, but there are just not enough slots to justify this amount of it attached to this caliber of (potential) player. If everyone looks good, there could be a Berrios/May/Duffy/Santiago/Mejia/etc decision which should also be fun to follow.
  10. Of course thats true, but a pitcher like Tim Hudson had his changeup working most days, and any starting pitcher has their fastball working or they're not pitching in the middle innings. Increasing the odds from 50/50 FB/change moves the needle quite a bit. Good article.
  11. From Alberta and Interstate to Hayden island (5 miles or so) was 2.5 hours. Winter storms in Portland are terrible. Not sure why and how this happens.
  12. And an outfield of Sharper, Sturner and Swerth
  13. The Twins org did pretty well last time they traded an all-star 2b to the Yankees
  14. http://espn.go.com/mlb/boxscore?id=360510109 First game I was able to watch this season.
  15. Also, if anyone is interested, Hawk Harrelson only does road games now. Jason Benetti does home games. Cool story: http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/columnists/ct-white-sox-new-announcer-20160112-column.html
  16. I always wait until this time of year and I get a promo email for 50% off. So about $50 or so. I've had it almost every year since 2011. Its a beautiful thing when you're out of state.
  17. I bought mlb.tv and was pretty excited to listen to a potential Hawk meltdown. He's not there. Do any of you fine folks know the story on that?
  18. Not to nit pick, but hasn't Florimon convinced everyone he can only play short? Why do I remember reading that he isn't even considered for a backup role because he can't/won't/doesn't play elsewhere?
  19. July is pretty early to count on Buxton. And Hicks getting north of a .200 BA would help a great deal. I liked watching him in CF. I think we all agree that the current depth chart for OF starters doesn't look too good for our fly-ball staff. If Hicks can't hit enough to play CF on a pretty awful team, I have a hard time imagining him hitting enough to play a corner in '15, when the team might have expectations. That projected outfield sure could be fun though.
