  1. Jones flies out to shallow center on a FB (previous 2 Ps sliders). Nunez gets a hit just off the range of Florimon on a weakly hit change. 24 pitchies for FranKKie
  2. FranKKie gets ahead of Martin 0-2 and gets him to fly out to shallow center
  3. Nova has a very very dirty curve. Doumit struck out looking at it and both Willingham and Burroughs were swinging at pitches at their shoelaces
  4. Burroughs strikes out swinging too
  5. Nova pretty dominant as well, Morneau soft pop fly at LF, Willingham K's
  6. 0-2 to A-Roid, K's on a change up. FranKKie!!!
  7. Liriano's FB up to 93 per the YES gun. Fell back 3-1 to Texeira gets hit to fly out to RF
  8. Liriano went 0-2 on both batters he faced so far with FBs... K's Granderson with his 3rd pitch a slider
  9. Jeter singles to the RF on a 1-2 count
  10. Yes. But if they take 3 Catchers, since neither Butera or Rivera can play elsewhere, there is no advantage of Butera in any way. More than the ST appearances, Rivera is a better hitter than Butera (looking at their MiLB career numbers) and at least equal (I think he is better) defensively. Plus Liriano pitches better with Rivera catching him. Butera has a 40-man roster spot (unfortunately) which he can let go any day. Catchers like Butera are a dime a dozen
  11. Span FO to center first pitch of the game, Florimon FO to Left (2 pitch PA) , Doummit K looking in 4 pitches
  12. Watching the game on YES. 3 pitches 2 outs...
  13. What I don't understand is why Rivera is not catching Liriano instead of Butera in this game... this is not a good sign. Hope that Liriano can overcome that
  14. I think that Willingham's contact numbers last season were aberrant. His K% was a career high 26.6% and his BB% career low 9.9%. With a potential regression towards a high teens K% and a mid teens BB%, both his BA (thus, also his SLG) and OBP will be higher. I think a career average slashline of .260/.360/.480 is not out of the question. Also, if we use career PA/HR numbers, with 600 PAs he projects around 25-26 HRs, which also is not out of question. RBI depend on others as well, so I would not venture a guess. I think that Doumit should also be listed in the RF depth.
  15. Rivera: a. has the 5th best OPS from the remaining players in the Camp (.871); Towles' is .705 and Butera's .636 b. has thrown several runners out at second, while last time Butera tried to throw a runner out, end up hitting Pavano's back c. when he catches Liriano, Liriano pitches better. In my mind, if they take 3 catchers North, Rivera earned the job. Also, Hollimon has the best Spring from everyone in Camp and he (1.246 OPS vs Burroughs' .713) should be rewarded for it. Burroughs is a nice story and he turned his life around but the guy with the hottest bat (and better defense - and he can play SS,3B,2B,OF) should get the job. I think Maloney now is pretty much a given unless he really screws up badly. Not sure for the others. Still plenty of time left and anyone of Manship, Waldrop, Burton and Fien can get the final 2 spots. And, again, I hope they take the hottest 2 arms up, regardless of whether they were drafted by the Twins or their daddy played for the Twins... Unless there is a miracle, I think that Burnett, Wise and Gray (and his 40-man spot) are gone to Rochester.
  16. It is not a secret that several players who left the Twins' organization, have had better success elsewhere. And I am not talking about hitters only. Just look at the Mets' roster to see who their ace was last season (and I am not talking about Johan ) Just too much smoke to not be fire, IMO.
  17. The problem is that the people who are currently running the Twins do not have that mindset. They like to keep their players under cheap club control mostly. The 99 loss season was a golder opportunity to start a new with new front office and new field management (like what Boston did pretty much) rather than re-assign the titular head of the FO to other parts of the organization. This is the "Twins' Way". And unless they start getting people from outside the organization, that philosophy will propagate. That simple.
  18. Probably need to add Pedro Ciriaco to the Boston infield equation as well at least as a utitily infielder if not the starting SS. Funny enough, I wrote about the same subject 3 days ago... I think that this is a true possibility, esp. knowning how certain people in the organization feel about Punto. It might be a bit redundant with Carroll around on the other hand; plus, you know it, Gardenhire will find a way to play Punto more than he deserves...
  19. The only logical flaw for moving Casilla for Carroll and Dozier, is that right now Casilla is the better player... If one of the 3 should be the utility guy should be Carroll
  20. Seth, for some reason it does not work for me in 2 computers in 3 different browsers each... All I can get is the 'blogtackradio' thing. Something might be up
  21. 2010 Rochester. That said, Guerrier's numbers were superior to Manship's at every MiLB stop by far. Can he be an effective 7 inning guy? Maybe. Do the Twins have better options for that job? Probably. We will see how it plays out.
  22. If Morneau is the full time DH, Doumit will be on the bench as the full time second catcher or occasionally at the OF or occasionally starting when Mauer sits. So no need to have Butera up to pick his nails.
  23. TR was just on ESPN 1500 Radio and said that Morneau's wrist is 80-90% and getting stronger daily. I guess he is giving the medical reports now. At least no concussion talk...
  24. It's kinda of saddening to see all that venom against Nishioka. Ok the guy did not performed to the par last season (but he suffered a broken leg a week into the season.) And he was (apparently) not up to par this Spring Training, but if you look at the numbers, he was not much off than others. Matter of fact he was better than some non-roster people who are either still in big league camp or were cut after him. And he had a bad off-season personally, so he needs a break. And in his awful debut last season, he was not the worse player on the team. That would be someone who the Twins braintrust will push on the 25-man roster as the 3rd catcher for no good reason...
  25. They actually pulled Hollimon off the scrap heap last season and let him work his way up in New Britain and Rochester, then re-signed him as a MiLB free agent. Unlike Maloney he is not new to the organization.
