    Or if they could evaluate that a skilllset like Blackburn's wasn't exactly built for prolonged success. That should still be a much more important factor in figuring out who to give guaranteed money to than one less month of service time. The fact that "Blackie" had things on his side like being a "Twins way" pitcher and a Gardy favorite played significant roles in his early re-upping as well. The Twins would have likely been delighted to hand out that deal to "Blackie" at that time even if he had one less month of service time.

    Yes, but having an extra year of control in your pocket is never a bad thing. Trade-wise or contract-wise it will get you increased value. Throwing out the Super-2 status of Butera has nothing to do with anything, as he's a non-asset, and I'd assume we're talking about players of value.

    Well, he could always say "it's stupid to carry a third catcher" and that would immediately upgrade the bench.

    Or maybe team control would be a bigger factor with players that are actually, you know, good. The kind that get expensive, and not the kind that no other team in the league would waste a roster spot on.

    It also took an Arcia injury rehab stint in Ft. Myers with the Twins basically saying "screw it, let him stay there now that he's healthy" to get him there.

    I read it all. All that I could gather was that you're trying to claim that at the age of less than ten years old, you thought Torii Hunter would take "six years". It took a while though, due to having to unroll my eyes from the back of my skull repeatedly. Other than that, you know, totally coherent, what with comparing two athletes across entirely different sports.

    Of a team's concerns throughout a season, "depth at DH" is somewhere behind "who is the team's 6th catcher".

    Because the DH spot already has a logjam of Mauer/Morneau/Doumit that will be rotating through the majority of the PAs, and Thome can't do anything but hit.
