  1. Weekend line: 1/1 K/BB, 7 innings, 6 H, 3 ER From Christopher Crawford on the outing:We noted last week that Shipley was a top ten quality player in this draft, and he did nothing to refute that this week. More strikeouts would be nice but he kept the walks down as well and we have to like that he was removed after 91 pitches. Not a dominant outing, but nothing that should hurt him.
  2. Mr.Gray continues to pitch himself out of any possibility of being there at 4. 7/2 K/BB, 7.1 innings, 2 hits, 1 ER
  3. Didn't pitch this weekend due to hip injury I believe. While I currently prefer about 7 players over him he seems like the most likely player to go #4. Hopefully the injury isn't serious and he can get back to cape cod form before the draft.
  4. Clunker by Windle this weekend. 8/5 K/BB, 7.1 innings, 5 hits, 6 ER.
  5. Anderson threw very poorly this week vs a weak northern Florida team. 3/4 K/BB, 6.2 innings, 6H, 5 ER Quote about the game from CC: He was cruising until the seventh innings, when it all seemed to fall apart for the entire Jacksonville pitching staff, so if you’re optimistic, you can chalk this up to “one bad inning”. At one point he was in top 10 pick consideration and no chance to be around at 43. He has time to right himself but it is getting closer and closer to the draft. Maybe there is a possibility he will fall all the way to the second round.
  6. Staneks weekend line: 3/3 K/BB, 6.2 innings pitched, 7 H, 1 ER Very average line for a pitcher trying to get back into the top 10 picks
  7. From baseball America's daily prospect round up regarding Mr.Walker: Minnesota has the best position prospect duo in baseball (Miguel Sano and Byron Buxton) off to scorching starts, but the Twins are getting plenty of early production elsewhere in the farm system too. Walker, a third-round pick last year out of Jacksonville, homered in four straight days—including a two-homer game on Friday—before his streak ended yesterday. Walker, who led the Rookie-level Appalachian League with 14 home runs in 58 games last year, is hitting .297/.373/.608 in 20 low Class A Midwest League games this season. The most impressive part of what Walker’s done so far isn’t just showing that he can hit the ball a long way—we already knew he had outstanding raw power—it’s that he’s shown the aptitude to make adjustments to get to his power in games with greater frequency. 8. While I wouldn't mind doing it but that information is just so hard to come by. Unlike last year where there were several big PR names floating around, this year I just haven't read about them.
  9. Update: April 26-28 Blair-10/2 K/BB, 8.1 innings, 2 ER Alex Gonzalez- 12/1 K/BB, 7 innings, 1 ER, reportedly was hitting 94 Ziomek- 9/3 K/BB, 7 innings, 1 ER Crawford- 5/3 K/BB, 4.2 innings, 0 ER Hursh- 6/1 K/BB, 7.1 innings, 2 ER Mitchell- 4/2 K/BB, 4.2 innings, 1 ER Williams- 7/1 K/BB, 8 innings, 4 ER Thurman- 4/1 K/BB 7.2 innings, 3 ER, it is worth noting he gave up 11H vs a weak UC-Irving Marco Gonzales- Gonzales actually played first in a loss to BYU. He went 1-for-5 with a single, one run driven in, and two strikeouts.
  10. April 26-28 stats Bryant- 11 AB, 3H, 3 R, 2 RBI, HR (22) Moran- 9 AB, 2 H, 1 R, 3 RBI, HR (11) It is worth noting that Bryant face San Francisco State, not exactly a baseball power house, while Moran face NC State, who is a solid team, and had to try to hit Carlos Rodon. For those of you who don't know who Rodon is, he is currently the favorite to go #1 next year and gets some comparisons to David Price.
  11. BA on Phil Bickford: Phil Bickford has been a riser this spring in the draft landscape and is racking up some gaudy stats too. The righthander from Oaks Christian High (Westlake Village, Calif.) recently struck out 15 in a win over Bonita High (La Verne, Calif).
  12. BA had a nice article about Rob Kaminsky. It also has a nice video for all of our amateur scouts out there. Link below: Rob Kaminsky Puts Team, Charity First - BaseballAmerica.com This was my favorite excerpt. Real high character kid. There’s only one point in which Kaminsky admits that stats matter. At the Perfect Game All-America Game last August, the participating players visited Rady Children’s Hospital in San Diego. Kaminsky was inspired to try his own hand at making a difference. He is collecting pledges for every strikeout he records this season and the proceeds will go to the Englewood Hospital and Medical Center in Kaminsky’s hometown of Englewood Cliffs, N.J. He says the campaign has raised more than $15,000. “That’s when stats matter,” Kaminsky said. “I thought if I’m going to be striking people out, why not raise money?”
  13. There is a ton of solid pitching that will be around, college and HS, in the second round but boldt might be too good to pass up if he is there at 43. The Twins love their toolsy outfielders. I know most people here like him because he is from Minnesota but just like Windle/Anderson I could careless where they are from. I just want high upside talent and that definitely fits boldt.
  14. Boldt gets a lot of comparisons to Rockies first rounder David Dahl. Doesn't have any 70s but has a chance to have a lot of 60s and is a true center fielder.
  15. Nice outing by Gibson. In 6.2 innings he only gave up two hits with no ER and ended the day with a 7/2 K/BB ratio.
  16. From law on Ziomek: The left-hander sat 88-92 mph all night with his fastball and threw a curveball that varied from a get-me-over pitch at 75-76 up to a harder slurve at 80-81, with many pitches in between those two. He showed the willingness to attack guys on the inner half with both pitches and to backdoor the breaking ball to right-handers. His delivery is pure reliever -- he starts with a very high leg kick, has a very long arm swing behind his body, and hasn't even started to get his hand moving toward the plate when he lands his front leg.
  17. BA and Crawford have Manaea at 6, Law has him at 4, and Mayo (even though his is rather old) at 3. In both Callis' and Law's chats they have said they would be surprised if the Twins didn't take one of the college pitchers at 4. Crawford had an interesting take on Manaea in his What to Watch: For most pitchers, a 1.57 ERA with 72 strike outs in 57 innings would be an incredible achievement. Scouts, though, have wanted to see a little more from Manaea. His velocity hasn’t been quite as consistent as it was on the Cape last summer and he hasn’t dominated the way some expected him to against a weak slate of opponents. He’s clearly fallen behind Appel and Gray as the best pitcher on the board, and there’s not much he can show in a start against Tennessee-Martin to change anyone’s mind.
  18. As long as people want me to keep posting these I will.
  19. I don't think this comes as a surprise but the Chicago Sun Times has confirmed the Cubs are taking either Appel or Gray with the number 2 pick. "Team sources have said for weeks that they expect one of those power pitchers will be the Cubs’ selection — possibly coming down to whichever one isn’t selected by the Houston Astros with the No. 1 pick." From manager Dale Sveum ‘Obviously, the two big boys, Appel and Gray, if those guys keep the velocity where it is and everything’s going good, I think it’s hard not to take one of them guys,’’ Sveum said. Article link below: http://www.suntimes.com/sports/baseball/cubs/19719803-573/cubs-plan-to-use-no-2-pick-on-mark-appel-or-jonathan-gray.html This isn't the NFL draft so no reason to create smoke screens.
  20. Today BA released their third installment of Prospect Hot Sheet and for the third week in a row Sano is on it. The first week he was 8, last week he was 1, and this week he is 3! To see what was written about him cluck the link below: http://Http://www.baseballamerica.com/minors/prospect-hot-sheet-april-26-jesse-biddles-16-strikeouts-stand-out/ Also Ben Badler answered several twins questions today: Who has a higher ceiling? JO Berrios or Alex Meyer? Ben Badler: Meyer. The combination of velocity, life and angle on his fastball is filthy, and his slider has a chance to be a 70 pitch. Pitchers with Meyer's size need to be given a little more time for their control to come around, and if he just has 50/55 major league command, you're talking about a frontline starter. Sound off! Sano vs. Xander... must pick one! Who and why? Thanks! Ben Badler: Bogaerts, by a hair. Better pure hitter and he has a chance to start his major league career at shortstop, although I don't think that's going to last long. Miguel Sano (Ft. Meyers): What the hell am I do here and when will I be promoted up to New Britain? Ben Badler: The Twins are usually on the conservative end of promotions, although with Aaron Hicks and Oswaldo Arcia maybe that's changing. But with Sano, yeah, I don't see him spending too much more time abusing FSL pitchers. Byron Buxton has been impressive no doubt in SSS so far. To be fair, is it more impressive that he boasts a 13/12 BB:K ratio or that he may force the Twins hand to promote him to the Florida State Lg. before the season is mid-way through.? Ben Badler: How about we just say that everything Buxton has done so far has been impressive. He's got bat speed, he can hit, he recognizes pitches, he's a 70 runner, plays good defense in center field and I think he's got the chance to end up with 50 or better raw power, maybe even a 25-homer season because of his contact frequency, bat speed and physical projection. This guy is a monster. Is Buxton looking like a mid-season top 10 prospect? Ben Badler: He's already No. 10. He might be a top five guy by the end of the year. Guerreri, Meyer, De Paula...In your opinion who will be the best? Ben Badler: Meyer.
  21. Half year in low A. Move him to high A after the all star break. If he dominates high A start him in AA in 2014. If he is over powered or plays just OK ball start him in high A in 2014 with the idea of moving him quickly to AA. Once he has proven himself in AA give him a September call up. Start him in AAA in 2015 and once high clock passes the magic day bring him to the bigs.
  22. Buxton ended 3-5 HR, 2 Doubles, 5 RBIs and a walk...big day!
  23. From Jason Churchill regarding Moran: North Carolina's Colin Moran, considered by many to be top pure hitter in the class, will face North Carolina State ace Carlos Rodon (95 K's in 60 1/3 IP) this weekend. The left-handed Rodon is the top prospect for next year's draft and presents a tough test for Moran, a left-handed bat. If Rodon stays on schedule with last weekend's rotation, this matchup will take place Saturday. Moran enters the series batting .395/.514/.635 with 10 home runs and an impressive 39-8 BB/K ratio. ESPN3 will carry the game at 6:30 PM ET. That's a big win for draft fans. I personally don't have ESPN 3 but if any one does, and actually watches the game, let us know how Moran looks!
  24. From Jason Churchill on Krook: Matt Krook of St. Ignatius Prep (San Francisco) makes what appears to be his second-to-last high school start Friday versus Archbishop Riordan HS. Last time out, Krook fanned 10 in six frames. The left-hander has flashed a 70-grade curveball in the 78-83 mph range, but the pitch has been a bit inconsistent the latter quarter of the season, just as have Krook's outings in general.
  25. Serrano is currently my favorite arm for the guys who could be there at 43. I love guys who throw curveballs as their main secondary pitch. He actually reminds me a ton of the Twins second pick last year in JO Berrios. He is super young (won't be 18 till July!!!), very advanced stuff (currently 2+ pitches), "short" at 6", and RH.
