  1. How does make sense? Why would a team trade for Morny by trading one of its starters?
  2. I don't know. This is a pretty damn good draft class. The top end is pretty impressive. We might be stuck taking a high schooler again, which will make general prospect fans mad, but people who follow the draft closely excited. Kind of like this past year with Stewart.
  3. Ken Rosenthal reports that the Rangers, yes the Rangers, might listen to offers on Joe Nathan. Rosenthal says: "If the Rangers proceed, it would be with the idea of dealing from strength and exploiting a thin market for relievers, a sources says." If the market is that desperate for top end RPing what are the Twins doing with Perkins? A team that is a clear buyer is thinking about trading their closer because of the market why aren't we? I'm confused....
  4. Matt Garrioch at minorleagueball released his early 2014 draft list. Here is the link: Extremely Early 2014 MLB Draft Rankings - Minor League Ball
  5. Maybe people keep saying that because the front office has mentioned it before. A Sept call up doesn't mean they have made the team next year. It is just away to see your prospects and reward them for having a good year.
  6. Even though he only faced 1 batter I will take it! Before his injury in college he was considered a possible first rounder. Hopefully he is finally healthy.
  7. Recent draftees can't be traded for a year.
  8. I usually try to stay away from the packaging game when talking about trades but I just read this: The Pirates announced today that Jason Grilli has a flexor strain in his right arm. He is not a candidate for surgery, which is good news for the Bucs, but he will still miss four to eight weeks. Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports tweets that the Pirates become more active in the bullpen trade market. We have Morny. We have several bullpen arms. Seems like an even better fit now.
  9. Rays are the masters of selling high, while we, are the masters of selling low.
  10. That has to be an error. If Sano keeps warming up and Rosario stays hot they might both be September call ups.
  11. Morny won't demand a high level return but the Pirates might be the perfect trade partner. Last year at the trade deadline the Pirates traded their competitive balance pick to the Marlins for Gaby Sanchez. This year the Pirates were awarded the 5th comp B pick, between rounds 2 and 3, which should be worth about ~800K next year. If we could get an extra draft pick, heck the extra money is worth it by itself, and maybe a lottery ticket for a few months of Morny I would be happy. Also, the front office has no excuses to why it can't pay part, if not all, of his salary.
  12. The scouting reports have not been updated which is annoying. Gibson's still says he should make the major league at some point this year.....which he obviously has. On his top ten by position lists we did have the #1 OF, #1 3B, and the #2 2b which is never a bad thing. Also, while none of our pitchers made the top 10 pitcher list having 4 pitchers in the top 100 is definitely a good thing.
  13. Just as the title says, today Jonathan Mayo released his updated prospect list. There are some odd choices on the list so give it a look. For those of you too lazy to skim it here are the Twins that made it: 1.Buxton 3.Sano 36.Meyer 51.Gibson 66. Stewart 68 Rosario 85. Berrios Mayo also updated his top 20 list for each team and top 10 by position lists. Link: 2013 Prospect Watch | MLB.com: News
  14. Where did you find this? Here is a quote from Soria himself about his no trade clause: "I didn't put it there, my agent did, as a strategy," Soria said. "But if the Royals decide to trade me to New York I would gladly go to play with the Yankees or any other team... I repeat, I would not block a trade to the Yankees. I like to play baseball and I would play with any team." The only thing Soria said he would block is moving to the rotation. I havent seen any reports asking for more money to wave his no trade clause but it's not like that would stop the Yankees. It's the Yankees. All reports I have seen say the Yankees dangled a package built around Montero, who at the time was an elite prospect, but Moore said no. Now, to the point about actual trades there are none close. All the examples that actually happened are not similar to Perkins in any way so why would we use them? While the Soria trade didn't happen at least it is similar.
  15. I think fans are the ones focused on only pitchers/ss. While I'm sure his main target is a pitcher I'm sure if he was offered a deal headlined with something else he would listen.
  16. Unprecedented might be a little much. 3 years ago there was another young, cheap, all star shut down closer in the AL Central that teams were calling about. Soria. Yankees and several other teams made solid offers but we told no because "the Royals were close to contention." Because I doubt Ryan will trade Perkins I'm guessing this will become the exact same situation.
  17. Kiley McDaniel released his current top 30 HS draft prospect list today for free. Good read with a lot of inside information. Scout.com: Top 30 High School Prospects For 2014 Draft
  18. It would definitely be nice to see our front office be aggressive but they are so tight lipped that even if they were being aggressive we wouldn't know. Every trade deadline, winter meeting, and off season in general it gets frustrating to be left in the dark. Don't get me wrong, I don't blame them for doing it, because it is smart. That doesn't mean I have to like it! /whine
  19. Completely agree. While fans love their star players they love winning more.
  20. I think this is a valid point. It is almost impossible to get equal value for any player when not only their skill but contract comes into play. Especially RPers. As I say this though I believe we could get a great package for Perkins. Because of the extra wild cards there are very few sellers and a bunch of buyers. Add in that this is one of the weakest trade deadline RPer groups in a while, especially now that Crain isn't coming back before the deadline, with a ton of teams looking for bullpen arms and you have a chance for a bidding war.
  21. Former Twin Jesse Crain won't make an appearance before the trade deadline. Crain was the only other All Star RPer on the market. The already weak RPer market just got weaker. Twins need to take note from the Soria debacle a few years ago and move Perkins. Don't pull a Royals!
  22. From Keith Law's chat today: Keith, given your knowledge of trea turner and alex bregman, do you think either have a chance to stick at short? Seems like bregman is a little cleaner in his actions and turner might be better suited for cf with his speed? Klaw (1:07 PM) I don't think either stays there, based on what I've seen. Bregman has better actions but not enough range. Turner has the quickness but not the actions or feel. what range would Rodon rank in your updated mid-season top 50 prospects? Klaw (1:07 PM) Top 10. Where do you anticipate Jeff Hoffman going in next year's draft and where would he currently rank in your top 50? Klaw (1:50 PM) Top ten pick, based on what he's done on the Cape in five starts. Hearing 92-97 with plus CB, below CH. Also heard he wasn't very good this spring at all, so it's fairly speculative until he shows he can do this for at least a full college season. He's not in Rodon's class, IMO, but sounds like he's better than Tyler Beede.
  23. From Keith Law: Haven't seen except a little video. Have talked to several scouts who did, general reports seem to have him as a likely above-average MLB starter, fastball up to 96, plus slider, four pitches, arm works. I can't imagine dealing with the inflation in Cuban free agents, but he's got to be worth $40MM+ in this market.
  24. Also, Correia's contract is 2 years vs Jackson's 4 years.
  25. Turner is a personal favorite so I agree that Law is overlooking him a little. Also, I definitely agree that there are a ton of exciting guys. BA released an article today with some scouting reports from the 2013 tournament of stars (a high school show case) and it had this interesting bit about this pitching this year vs last year: "This year’s crop was better, with pitching as the strength. The top fastball velocity recorded at last year’s event was 93 mph, by two players. This year, nine players hit 93 mph, and three hit 95 or better, led by No.1 prospect Tyler Kolek, who hit 97." This is a darn good group of players. While some may fall down boards others will rise. Most of the elite prospects now should be the elite prospects draft day. To read all 35 reports on the players at this years tournament of stars, anyone who follows the draft should, here is the link to the article: Tyler Kolek Leads Tournament Of Stars Standouts - BaseballAmerica.com
