  1. It says 23 comments, but only one by otwin is here?????
  2. I think Morneau will remain a Twin, mid season may have a different answer if the team is struggling or there is an offer too good to be true. Morneau is still a health risk, to sell now you are selling when his value is low.
  3. Recall the hit in attendance the Twins took when Griffith fired Billy Martin? Losing fan favorites does have a risk to hammer attendance.
  4. Thanks for the positive reminder
  5. JimH, yes character issues are indeed a slippery slope causing so much hair splitting. Suffice to say I much prefer talented players with the grit needed to do well and become part of the team. I do not prefer Twins load up on Mannys-being-Manny types who may not care to contribute that day. Saying I do not like those players to build with I will grudgingly admit that ... with two out in the 9th, men on, win or go home that a team is a whole lot better off with Manny next up than Butera or Punto. The right intangibles make a big difference.
  6. You want Bonds snepp? In the first place I never expected we load up with players who can't play. My opinion was and is that untrustworthy players will let you down when you need them. Sabremetrics for character ??? Probably a good place to start is a police blotter
  7. Every player in MLB has a wealth of talent. The intangibles separate them. I stand by finding good character
  8. Snepp, you can have both!
  9. Some posters would advocate signing the devil himself if it meant a handfull of hits and a better arm. Character does matter.
  10. He had other priorities. That is his choice. I am personally not enamored.
  11. Invest wisely. If a cancer is introduced to the team you may come to regret it big time. Twins should be able to find good character guys who can play
  12. CDog earlier posted Twins vs Tigers records which I assume is correct and reflects a long-term commitment to the Twins so I don't agree with the "lack of wanting to win theorists". It is sort of a standoff if the team ties payroll to revenues and fans won't buy tickets if team does not spend. If you enjoy the game buy a ticket, if not try fishing Team needs to figure a way out of morass, they need to be smart about players they sign. It is not about spending, it is about spending wisely in a highly competitive market when your competition needs something more than you are willing to spend or has some unique reason to outbid you. My perception is that the Pohlad family has money invested funding many projects and businesses. Lets say that maybe they are actually being asked to not fund a new entrepreneur and instead resign Hunter for $26 mil or Baker who has not proven himself for $7.5 mil? Which do any of you think is a better investment for Minnesotans as a whole? It is not as if the Pohlad family has a room full of money like King Midas.
  13. Sorry About above errors. I gave up editing out obvious mistakes and redundant and incomplete thoughts.
  14. I do not lament losing something we have not had for awhile and we have not anything from Baker for a long, lo.g time. So, to me it is no loss at all. We can not afford to tie up big money with such a risk. Cubs got what they want, Baker got what he wants, and Twins got what they want ... they still have the $$$ to invest more wisely. Keep Nathan? He did not want to stay. Keep Lariano? He simply was not consistent. It would have been nice to move him at high value, alas his irregular performance would not allow that. want to trade Span and Morneau, guys who claim they want to be Twins and continue to pay their dues. Yet we expect others like Cuddy, Nathan, and others to stay here. We ought not have a double standard either. How can we expect guyx like Span and
  15. Does not serve any real purpose here. Spend $$$$ on something/someone else.
  16. Interesting. Thanks.
  17. I agree with 70charger on his last comment. People often express a degree of suspicion, conspiracy, and intrigue toward the Twins management. I ask, what management group in their right mind would fail to move players up when they are ready? Or, if the team has a need fir their talents? The careers of decision makers jobs depend upon making correct decisions. Teams would be cutting their own throats if they made decisions other than when they think players are truly ready. After all, they play in a highly competitive environment where they can ill afford to make decisions based on factors other than performance.
  18. More full than not. The team has a lot of strengths too. 1) Improve by eliminating stupid mistakes. 2) Take better at bats by being a little more patient so you actually do drive in runners who get into scoring position. 3) Build with Twins guys who want to be part of the future. 4) Find a couple key arms ... guys who can be serviceable. 5) Get lucky. Don't assume that Baker, Pavano, and Blackburn are shot. Maybe more than one of those three can be some part of an answer. It is not like they need a complete overhaul, they just need important help in key areas. Problem I have trading Morneau or Span is it reminds me of McPhail trading Bruno for Herr. We let go of a team guy, a good performer who wanted to be here and received a highly discontented one in return. Morneau and Span do not put personal needs ahead of team needs. Keep them and that type of player.
  19. I think there are good miles left in the M&M boys. Build a solid foundation on guys who have pride in being Twins.
  20. Hate to see the team trading away guys like Span and Morneau especially ... they practically beg to stay. That does a lot for a team foundation. Sign Baker. Find a good free agent.
  21. He chose big money. That is fine, understandable even. I would not have kept him for those dollars and those years. But, after he left it seemed to me he trashed the Twins in a manner that made him a hypocrite. Hunter leaving let us develop Span so I am glad he left.
  22. Prospects, even sandwich picks, are still a long way from ML baseball.
  23. Carroll has some timely hits, does not usually beat himself. Smart-steady-stable is not a bad thing to add to a young infield. Don't make it over complicated, if he gets enough plate appeareances next next year to guarantee a third year it will be because he earned them.
  24. Be strong! Life has no guarantees.
