  1. Hey, I'm not a big fan of his numbers either, but let's not forget that the last four years he has ended up with a 46-43 record, and three of those four years he played on a team with a losing record. He gets the job done even if it's statistically ugly.
  2. Careful; them's fighting words around here to some!
  3. The announcers for Kansas City can't understand Correia either - "I thought they'd have gotten to this guy by now."
  4. Too soon to say that he is good, but, perhaps, Ryan saw something that we didn't?
  5. More evidence that something's wrong this year.
  6. Was anybody else cringing just a little when Florimon took that pop-up?
  7. Ugh! That was a buzz-kill. Was that Doumit's fault for not noticing that Morneau wasn't coming home?
  8. So what's up with the outfield? Willingham and Parmelee switching places? Or is that a typo?
  9. Actually, if I was a White Sox fan I'd be pretty happy right now. Who cares about something like this when you're tied for first place?
  10. I hear where you're coming from - I don't like 3+ hour games either. But I don't see that changing, and while I wouldn't be opposed to your idea I don't think it would shorten the game dramatically. There's a couple of things that are going on to contribute to this (IMO): 1) pitchers are throwing (and expected to throw) harder than they did back in the "old days." Either that, or players or just coming to the big leagues with more fragile arms (and I don't think that's the case). Harder throwing means more wear and tear on the arm which means longer recovery times which means the need for a larger pitching staff. I would love to go back to having a 4-man rotation and 15 players on the bench, but it ain't happening. 2) With the advent of advanced statistics, batters are getting smarter and have learned to work at-bats better, hence the longer games. It used to be if it was in the strike zone you hacked at it; now, it has to be "your pitch" or you lay off or foul it off. P.S. These are just my impressions from watching the game now compared to watching it 40 years ago. I have not tried to evaluate my thoughts by pouring through a batch of statistics, nor am I going to try to (I have better things to do with my life). Stat-heads are welcome to refute me or ignore me as they wish - I'll sleep just fine either way.
  11. So are you saying he should be put in more high leverage situations, for a couple of months, before we can make an assessment? Or are you saying he shouldn't even be given a chance, period?
  12. Double-A New Britain has had a tough start as well - hope this isn't a sign of things to come!
  13. You're not crazy (or at least not any more than anybody else who chooses to follow the Twins), and the parallels are interesting. I don't expect it to go very far, though. The Vikings made the playoffs; that won't happen for the Twins. I've always thought 75-80 wins was realistic this year, but we'll still lose more than we win - at least this year.
  14. Hey, has anybody heard anything about playoff ticket availability yet?
  15. Ah, you can't expect them to keep up this pace. 104 is more like it.
  16. Best part about it, they are leading the toughest division in baseball this year - all 5 AL central teams are at .500 or above.
  17. To be fair, reading the article, I think the title refers more to the fact that Robertson is happy and accepts his role on the team than it does a prediction of success. Also, I think his being sent down is more in response to Swarzak being ready than a commentary on his performance. That's not saying I think belongs on the MLB roster; but I don't see this move as a knee-jerk reaction to one homer and one game.
  18. My guess is he will be "one and done." Diamond should be just about ready to go, and he'll take that spot.
  19. It may have less to do with Robertson and more to do with Swarzak being ready. I think if Swarzak is not injured during ST, Robertson doesn't make the club in the first place - especially with Roenicke and Pressly turning out as they have.
  20. Twins website says he has a bruised ankle and is not able to play nine innings. Apparently he hurt it Monday getting ready for the home opener. It sounds like later next week before he's ready to start.
  21. Swarzak threw 50 pitches in a EST game last Tuesday - hence my guess.
  22. According to 1500ESPN website, Tyler Robertson has been optioned to Rochester. A corresponding roster move will be made tomorrow. My guess - Swarzak is reactivated (just a guess).
  23. I guess not. According to 1500 espn website, he has been optioned to Rochester, with a corresponding roster move to be made on Sunday.
