  1. Do the Twins have a decent shot at having a sub-5.00 SP ERA from last year's 5.40? Absolutely. Given the defensive holes hollowed out of the lineup and huge projected drop in offensive production, would a highly implausible, semi-miraculous, everything-goes-perfect, American League average 4.37 SP ERA make a material difference in the W-L column? Nope.
  2. 1) Plouffe and a year's experience might make him better, but his career still suggests Valencia-like Wild Card. 2) Florimon greater than Dozier by "all accounts?" Then why was Dozier given the job first by the FO? Flori got the job by default. Dozier's minor league slash line: .298/.370/.409/.779. Florimon's: .249/.321/.354/.675 An OPS over 100 points higher suggests Dozier projects higher, even with an edge to Florimon on defense. 3) Cassila was a much better defender and base-stealer, but I agree overall that this is probably a wash. Maybe not a downgrade overall, but when you're not moving ahead and are content with "a draw", and not far removed from last year's mediocrity, net effect is you're moving behind. Even you are discerning enough to acknowledge that you at least see severe downgrade elsewhere in the OF and top of the lineup, doesn't seem to merit a lot of positivity about the 2013 overall outcome.
  3. That's the problem, the fact checker and all the editors already have been fired.
  4. When the sun actually shines, as it even rarely does in Twinsland, we all register our approval. It just seems odd that the perpetual optimists can't understand that the sunshine scale is severely out of whack these last 3 years and with the exception of 2 moves (the 2nd move of Revere being quite accidental), more of the same-old, same-old simply isn't acceptable.
  5. Yes, but it begs the question of: how are we sure that he isn't in a coma now?
  6. Gibson had a great rehab season in 2012 and in the AFL, but an innings-limit has already been imposed, just the question of how it's implemented. Pelfrey would defy not only the odds, but the very Baseball Gods, if he were somehow able to hit the ground running with numbers anywhere close to his last effective season-- which was 3 years ago in 2010.
  7. Just to name 2 off the top of my head, Texas and Boston are in major trading/rebuilding mode and have a surplus of MI major leaguers and solid to great prospects.
  8. Well done, Jesse. Let me get this straight, Doogie printed a hunch like it was a firm offer, but folds immediately when politely pushed into a corner? Exemplary for supposed breaking mountainous "repertorial evidence" signifying very little in breaking molehill substance. Is this what a "source", who is supposedly the player's agent, would say to a reporter? Methinks more like what St Antony would say.
  9. Fixed it for you, but you're right, gun needs to be more careful in his forgetfully omission-filled apologistic rants.
  10. That one still leaves a mark amongst the apologists...:s-instagib:
  11. Not many left, but there sure were a lot more available back in November and it's obvious that because Ryan thought he'd done his job in the MI in the 2012 acquisitions of Carroll, Florimon and Escobar, it never occurred to him to poke around for an offseason acquisition via trade. Are there still superior options available? Why yes, yes there are: Ranking the Top Players Still Available This Winter at Each Position | Bleacher Report Will there be superior potential waiver wire pickups? Likely.
  12. We can only hope that a lot can change with the remaining FA and waiver pick-ups. Unfortunately, Ryan gives off the impression that his work is done here and is suffering from FA-Fu mental fatigue. Pelfrey. Still has to be a question mark in April. 50/50 that he starts out on D or goes on 30-day DL soon thereafter. Robertson, Burnett, Swarzak. Ugggh. Besides the question marks w/ the SPs, more reasons to start out with 13 pitchers. Hicks. First call-up. Escobar. Why??? The Red Wings need him more than the Twins and Ryan always accedes to their needs. Butera. Scholarships are back in vogue.
  13. I think it's fair to say that Reusse has that market cornered.
  14. A lot of dreamers become welfare-sponges, too.
  15. Who wouldn't agree with this? Unfortunately, the concept of hope that things surprisingly shake out positively coming out of the gate is hanging on the thinnest of thin reeds- and Ryan has already hoisted the white flag on that reed. I think people tend to blank out about that part of the offseason story where the Twins gutted the top of their batting order...
  16. My premise of relative obtuseness was misplaced. You tend to dig far deeper to find your rationalizations (and go glaringly out of your way to obtusely demonstrate your historical blind spots) than olnurse.
  17. Why, 2 years of ineptitude wasn't enough? Don't let Ryan off this easy, there were more than enough options available for upgrade, either by FA or trade.
  18. Sign Dontrelle Willis and Carlos Zambrano, then it would be a no-brainer.
  19. I saw that and I feel now that Ryan and Pohlad were just mocking the fans at their weekend media appearances.
  20. Temper your enthusiasm, green...
  21. But.... then we couldn't eagerly and expectantly ponder the Cmathweson notion of "the Promise of Florimon"! From what we saw last season, plus his minor league comps, hardly makes me think he is even up to the 1987 version of a SS in Twinsland. Florimon minor league slash: .249/.321/.354/.675 Gagne's minor league slash: .259/.333/.406/.739
  22. "No more scholarships!" Or is that passe, now?
  23. This. Florimon for the start, Esco will bolster the Wings until Flori falters. With all the pitching question marks, this is the first time 13 pitchers on the opening day actually makes sense to me.
