  1. Given the roster jam-up, that only compounds itself when Nolasco and especially Santana reclaim 25-man spots, Graham likely has more value by exercising one of his options and then squirreled away in AAA. (And they likely will still have to do something with Pressly, Thompson, or someone else, besides).
  2. Fear of the pitcher is sometimes the pitcher's greatest weapon. I kind of like the prospect of a loose cannon in the pen, just to keep the opponents' big guns from digging in too deeply against the retinue of soft tossers.
  3. Watch the play again, the LF was backing the play up quite adequately.
  4. And the longer Vargas stays down, there is created ever-more temptation to hold him down on the farm for the full 2+ months that keep him from Super 2 status, as well.
  5. Many will be anxiously awaiting your reports...
  6. Sounds like someone has missed quite a few Hicks misplays with balls hit over his head the last 3 seasons...
  7. You were looking at the major league line, in AAA, he actually has 7 Ks in 18 ABs (still bad enough). He came back on fire after being sent down last season, I think there's a good chance he can do it again.
  8. It would have been nice to see him attempt a catch, the LF had the carom off the wall backed up already.
  9. At Rochester, Arcia has now struck out 7 times in 18 ABs. (1 BB, 2 hits). Give him a little more time to get his swing back, it worked out well for him last year in the same scenario.
  10. A few corrections and clarifications: Pinto;s HR was his 6th, not 4th. Vargas went 2-4 on the night, with 3 BB, and is now hitting .349/ 1.045 OPS. Both should be on the Twins DH short list. Arcia's 2 hits tonight raised his BA over the century mark, .111 (yipee!), not .067. Alex Meyer was a tale of two pitchers, yet again. For his first 2 IP, he threw 32 pitches, 22 strikes, 10 balls, 4 Ks, 1 hit. meanwhile, over his last 1/3 IP he threw 24 pitches, 12 strikes, 12 balls, 2 BB, 1 HBP, 1 K. I agree though, time to move him up, Molitor should love his "minimizing" skills.
  11. Are you really saying that Hicks doesn't have problems reading balls at the wall and over his head?
  12. Absolutely not. The best thing that happened to Arcia last season was spending that month in AAA purgatory.
  13. It isn't just you. He's improved his routes and his reads quite a bit this go-round, but not too much on balls hit beyond him.
  14. It seems unlikely that Nicksaviking, or anyone else, is calling for Gonsalves to start tomorrow in Boston over Milone- or to Rochester to start tonight over Lester Oliveros. It's pretty well-agreed, that Gonsalves was a potential 1st Round talent who fell to the 4th round. Given his perceived talent level and demonstrated ability, no reason not to at least consider him for a late-season promotion to Chattanooga if he continues at his present level of performance.... and then next year, in his FOURTH year of pro ball, completing tours at both AA and AAA. There are many pitchers throwing major league innings at age 22, which is what Gonsalves will be in September 2016.
  15. There was little doubt, but the Twins made it official: Arcia finally did get his first hit in AAA this afternoon, in the first game of the Red Wings DH. A year ago, in a similar situation, Arcia stayed in Rochester for a month before finally being recalled on May 26. That of course leaves Vargas and Pinto on the current potential recall list. Another game or two of hitting futility might force the issue.
  16. Tonkin was optioned on May 29. He would have to return to Roc. short of a DLing of Nolasco tomorrow.
  17. But it's moves like this that have been SOP for quite some time now.... head-scratching and maddening. It doesn't "feel like" a logic-based, Molitor-inspired move- is this a message to Vargas? to show he's hurting the team by not having his house in order? Perhaps the TD sages can clarify.
  18. Yep, you nailed it. It really isn't too much to ask for the Twins to get a little further ahead on understanding the developmental learning and readiness curve. The first six years of a successful starting pticher's career are always the cheapest, and quite frequently, both the most productive and injury-free- it would be great to get half of those six years on the lesser or equal side of Age 25.
  19. Yep. Clarification on what that cold radar gun in CR is supposedly reading would be extremely helpful.
  20. Actually, moving guys up, 1, then 2 levels in one season, who are destroying the competition is more common around the league than just a "running joke." It seems like the fast track option over seniority promotion is something important to have early recognition of, to both enhance and quicken the developmental process of the biggest impact prospects. The Twins have done it recently with Rosario and Santana at the last stages in the process, and have gone faster than their usual pace with Berrios, and as others have noted along with me, Gonsalves is obviously gaining little by remaining at Class A. If he repeats the same type of domination over the next 2 months as he has the previous 2, who's to say that he shouldn't be pushed to finish off the last month of the season in AA?
  21. Indeed it is. Thanks, JC, for the update, you made my night...
  22. Right here, right now there is no other place I want to be Right here, right now watching the world wake up from history I saw the decade in, when it seemed the world could change at the blink of an eye And if anything then there's your sign of the times I was alive and I waited, waited I was alive and I waited for this
  23. Definitely not his role, but considering that he was the prime developer of many of Tampa's up-and-coming pitching prospects, I would think his voice was heard with regard to his developmental philosophies in preparation for this season.
  24. I've been a big backer of Neil Allen (going after Tampa personnel has proven to be a wise move by the Twins). Although there is a risk in making too much of the move, and perhaps giving Allen too much credit ( the major league K/9 number is actually down 0.7 Ks from 2014), to this point, it's hard to argue with the overall results.
  25. Even if he doesn't have the sexiest stuff, I have to think the "experts" are going to be sitting up and taking notice at what he's done the first two months of the season, seems like almost a sure bet at some point this year to end up on multiple Top 100 lists.
