  1. I haven't been to many stadiums yet, but I've always wanted to visit Camden Yards, Fenway, and PNC Park.
  2. So it looks like Wimmers will need Tommy John. That's awful news not bad news.
  3. Herrmann isn't even half the player Mauer is. Mauer was a two time #1 prospect and a #1 draft pick. Herrmann can barely hit .250 in AA as a 24 year old. Mauer is a career .323 hitter. When you look at the numbers I find it hard to believe that you think he could hit for average better than Mauer has. I don't think there is anything special about Chris and the other catchers below him.
  4. I like the Rochester MN idea, but I doubt it's a great idea financially. Keeping the team in Rochester NY is probably the best for the team. If any of the minor leagues teams have to move, I hope it's New Britain.
  5. I disagree 100% on that. None of those players are MLB caliber. Regardless of how fast Zunino were to ascend through the minors and affect organization depth, I think we can all agree Doumit isn't going to last long and Mauer (or any catcher for that matter) can't crouch for 162 games. Even with that being said the draft isn't about team needs. It's about grabbing the best possible players available. Zunino's consistent ability to destroy college ball pitchers shows he, of all draftees, probably has the best chance of panning out and making the MLB team.
  6. He has more upside than Thomas (and is better), but Komatsu needs more time in the minors and unfortunately we can't stash him there. I think Mastroianni should have been promoted instead of this signing. He fills the role much better and is on fire in AAA.
  7. Yankees? *crosses fingers* Rivera's career and season is over now that he has a torn ACL.
  8. I've been advocating for Zunino for sometime now. Simply put, he's the safest and best pick available. He has the 4 tools you'd want from a catcher (minus speed). He has consistently put up big numbers in his career at Florida and is a leader on one of the best college teams in baseball. While a SP may be tantalizing given the situation, Zunino is the above and beyond the best choice. If not Zunino then I'm hoping for Kyle Zimmer.
  9. That one definitely deserves recognition. I think Kubel's cycle should be higher up the list. He single handedly won that game and the grand slam is a HUGE exclamation point.
  10. Hanging slider or a good ole' meatball right down main street.
  11. I'm sick of Liriano. He is a big headache and despite having ace potential, he'll never be capable of reaching it with the Twins.
  12. My only problem is that the Twins don't have any backup infielders and utility men now. Burroughs wasn't a good player, but he DID have the ability to make Valencia sit on the bench. That in itself has some value.
  13. Can't argue with #1 and #2 because of the ERA, but I definitely think that Cole Devries should be #3. Especially because you said " I think that it’s important to look at walks and strikeouts in combination, and do so relative to innings pitched." Devries has an amazing K/BB of 3.83 and a K/9 of 9.76. Besides that move, I agree with the order. Shibuya's WHIP makes me cringe a little though.
  14. Looks like Sano and Hicks were both big contributors. Makes my day to see the big names have big games.
  15. This is a great post. The lineup is definitely a strength for the Twins. If they could get just a few extra hits in key situations, the runs will come and they will be very tough to beat.
  16. If that's a no, I'd promote Nishioka then immediately designate him for assignment. Just hoping, praying actually, that someone else wants him.
  17. 1. Minor League Arrangement Changes. Promote Sano and Rosario to High A Fort Myers. Deolis Guerra to AAA. Angel Mata to Beloit. Diamond recall and Devries promotion to MLB club. Swarzak optioned and Maloney placed on waivers. 2. Fire the training staff and hire a new one. 3. If I can't fire Gardy can I trade him? A la Ozzie Guillen?
  18. I can only hope for them to finish the season in Ft. Myers. I hate how slowly the Twins advance their prospects (but still glad they don't rush them like the Nationals). Rosario isn't even being challenged and despite Sano's average at .273, his OPS is over 1.000. Even if it's a small sample size, at some point you have to realize that these two are talented enough to make the jump. It's not fluky if they have been doing it their entire careers in the minors. You can point out the stikeout rates, the fielding errors, etc. But those are issues that can be dealt with at the next level. Those are both issues that are going to become problems at the next level regardless of when they are promoted.
  19. Mastroianni should be promoted to the fourth outfield spot. I'd also advocate for a Diamond and Devries call-up.
  20. I think we should draft Zunino. The guy in the thumbnail being my second choice (Zimmer).
  21. New posts will probably be scarce. He won't be playing for a few months and his name isn't really thrown around much when he's not playing. Updates: April 29th | Nothing Noteworthy (NN) May 4th | NN May 8th | NN May 15th | NN (I'm closing it until he plays)
  22. Any on Angel Mata? I had no success with google images. There were only three pictures from the same website with extreme copywright protection (they wanted people to buy them). He's not a big name prospect and I completely understand if you have nothing on him. Thanks.
  23. Date of Birth: December 3, 1992 (Age 19) Hometown: Manicuare, Venezuela Position: Pitcher Throws Right; Bats Right Frame: 6'2", 190lbs. Acquired: Agreed to terms as an Undrafted Free Agent in January 2010 Other Notes: Was the GCL Twins Ace in 2011 Rookie Ball; Hasn't allowed a HR in 2 years of pitching Suggested Nicknames : "The Matador", "Automatac", "Babyface" Prospect Organization Ranking: 29th in Baseball America, 49th in TwinkieTown.com's 2012 Top 50 Statistics: 2010 Dominican Summer League: 59.1 IP; 1-5 W/L; 2.12 ERA; 1.096 WHIP; 1CG; 8.2 K/9; 3.60 K/BB 2011 Gulf Coast League: 37 IP; 0-1 W/L; 1.46 ERA; 1.135 WHIP; 0CG; 7.3 K/9; 1.58 K/BB 2012 Gulf Coast League begins late June Summary: Angel Mata is a talented, international player in the Twins minor league system. Angel is a right handed pitcher who understands the game and is very fundamentally sound. He plays defense well, holds runners, and can lay down a bunt if required to hit. "The Matador" tops out at 96 mph on the radar gun and has decent movement on all of his pitches. Currently, he has three pitches mastered in his arsenal: a Four Seam Fastball, a Slider, and a Cut Fastball. Angel relies on ground balls to get most of his outs and has an extremely high rate induced with a 56%. Mata can struggle with command at times, and a move to the bullpen could be possible. He typically pitches 3 or 4 innings when he starts; although, he has shown glimpses of stamina in a few games. His work ethic has been a question mark more recently and it may be the biggest blockade for an eventual major league appearance. The Twins can only hope that it is maturity issue and that Angel Mata will become more determined with age. Despite the effort, he has shown no signs of being a clubhouse cancer and would likely be a good teammate. As a teenager, Mata has continually breezed through the fRk and Rk levels with excellent numbers. If he's fortunate, a spot could very well open up for him in Beloit prior to the GCL's start in late June. Another successful season with the GCL Twins may all but guarantee a promotion if he doesn't get one this Summer. Strengths: Average Velocity, Defense, Stamina Weaknesses: Work Ethic, Spotty Control, Lacks "Stuff", Small Frame, Wish He Had a 4th Out Pitch Potential Upside: #4 Starter (I'd like to make a comparison to an MLB player, but he's not on Youtube so I can't watch delivery, mechanics etc.) ETA: 2017 (IF he can progress) Sources: Baseball Reference, BBN
  24. Unless I can reserve the #2 pick, I have to say Angel Mata. Second choice is Scott Diamond if the news on rookie ballers proves to be too limited.
