1. Exactly. A deal with the Rangers would be great though since they could use both of those tradeable pieces. I would trade Morneau for Jurickson straight up though.
2. I'd rather have time going into getting a call right that could change the game than having to watch a pitcher and runner play games with each other. You say that it's really rare which is a pretty invalid point. If it never happens anyway, what is the harm of having that rule? It's just a formality to prevent the 9 time occurrences that DO happen. Seriously, no one likes when it happens. Even fans in attendance start booing after around the 3rd time. Stepping off the mound is completely different than trying to fake out a runner with a windup and a pickoff. It's much less time consuming and the pitcher can still throw over if the runner refuses to budge.
3. If you'd just READ my entire post, you'd notice at the very bottom I acknowledge it's a bad move. It wasn't a "proposal", it was a hypothetical situation where I was assessing what the Twins would probably have to do to get a player like Jurickson Profar.
4. Why would the Twins trade Rosario, Sano, and Morneau for Profar?
5. No where in the article says that Morneau is untouchable. Since when does "not likely" mean 100% no? I'm pretty sure it's implied that they won't accept trades for him unless they are blown away, as they should.
6. If they weren't even willing to trade Cuddyer last year, why would they be willing to trade Morneau? In this case, I like the loyalty the Twins have for their players. He means more to the Twins than he does to any other team no matter what they would (likely) offer.
7. Let me start by saying Profar is good. Really, really good. But even you have overrated his value with that hypothetical proposal. A deal with Morneau and Span would be EXTREMELY tempting for the Rangers. Especially if the Twins eat lots of Justin's contract. They also don't have anywhere to put Profar because they have Kinsler and Andrus locked up long term in their middle infield. I don't think it would be a good move, but I just thought it was worth bringing up.
8. Slama has been performing extremely well for three years. Guerra and Oliveros have been for roughly half a season. I know they have more "upside", but what honestly has more merit?
9. Couldn't have said it any better myself StormJH1. I'd also like to say thanks to righty, because I was curious. I'd also like to know why Teheran fell down at least 15 spots.
10. He's 28 now and options shouldn't be a concern. There is no reason to "stash" a guy in the minors during his prime years. Not to mention that he's performing spectacularly (understatement).
11. MLB.com's 2012 Prospect Watch is still by far the best I've seen. I'm sure everyone has seen it though. Sano is at #20. Hicks at #67 and Rosario at #95. http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/prospects/watch/y2012/
12. Do we really? I went through this list multiple times and got 39. http://minnesota.twins.mlb.com/team/roster_40man.jsp?c_id=min It says Baker doesn't count. Maybe it's not up to date? I don't know. I apologize if I am wrong shanewahl, but I'd just like a little evidence.
13. The Twins only have 39 players on their 40 man roster as of now though.
14. The Twins have 12 pitchers on the roster and Burnett could end up on the disabled list according to ESPN's Phil Mackey. (Source: http://www.1500espn.com/sportswire/Alex_Burnett_dealing_with_elbow_soreness_Twins_could_make_roster_move052512) Don't get your hopes up too high though Slama fans. Ron Gardenhire says right-handers Deolis Guerra and Lester Oliveros are the two likeliest bullpen candidates to be called up if a move were made. Mackey writes: "Anthony Slama also has solid numbers -- a 0.44 ERA with 33 strikeouts and 12 walks in 20 1/3 innings -- but Gardenhire said Guerra and Oliveros have "better stuff."."
15. The pitcher can still step off the mound.
16. I love the way the game is played, and I don't think many changes need to be made. Although, I do have a few to throw out there. The rules that involve time limits posters have suggested are not in the best interest of the game. I feel that they would make baseball a little too artificial. After all, it is one of the only sports that doesn't have a game clock and that's one of the reasons why it's the greatest sport. With that said, here are a few rule changes I'll offer. 1. Allow rule 4 draft picks outside of round 1 to be traded. The only exception for trading first rounders is if they were acquired by a team through losing a Type A free agent. That pick may only be traded back to its former team (or the team who signed the Type A FA). Supplemental picks can be traded as well. Rule 5 draft picks do not apply as I'd like them to stay similar to waiver claims. 2. Instant replay expansion. Baserunning calls behind home plate only for safe/out. All fair/foul hits under the consent of the corresponding 1st base/3rd base umpire. 3. Stricter umpire regulations. The MLB needs to be harsher when reviewing umpires. The 90% rule mentioned by another poster is a start. 4. Limit pick off attempts to 3 per base runner.
17. His cutter is faster than his 4 seamer?
18. Nick Punto does have more World Series rings than Barry Bonds...
19. I think Hicks needs two full seasons in the minors and that's if he can handle it. Willingham has great value, but he is signed for three years. While that does make him more valuable to other teams, I doubt the Twins would trade him this season. Perhaps next season or the following in 2014 if selling at the deadline becomes a consistency for the upcoming years ahead.
20. I hope Daniel Santana has done enough this year to crack the top 20.
21. My Twins Big Board: 1. Byron Buxton, OF 2. Kevin Gausman, SP 3. Mark Appel, SP 4. Kyle Zimmer, SP 5. Carlos Correa, SS I'm basically hoping for Gausman or Buxton. Whoever the Astros don't choose of the two may be the best choice.
22. I would have mentioned Ramirez as well because he's my adopt-a-prospect, but I think you have to focus solely on his triple A line. It's a .314/.314/.400 and has been on the decline recently. He's 1 for his last 9 and has really only played 8 games at AAA this season. He's been striking out at a very high rate as well. Ramirez could definitely be in the Twins plans, but they need to give him some more time to correct a few flaws.
23. It's been a little over a quarter into the season and the Twins seemed destined to be sellers come July 31st. Unsurprisingly, many contenders are more than certain to inquire about the availability of Denard Span. Bidding for the center fielder could very well be competive as it is a position of need for quite a few division leaders. One of the biggest decisions the organization will have to make is whether or not they want to accept a deal for him. The biggest factor in the choice could possibly hinge on Ben Revere's capability to replace Span. So far this season, Revere has been good. Really good. Denard Span: .295/.360/.365 Ben Revere: .270/.341/.432 Revere's line has only been accumulated in 172 Plate appearances, but considering the amount of time he has spent between Rochester and Minnesota. it could be evidence that he has "bloomed" and is ready to handle the chores as a full time leadoff man and outfielder. We have all watched Ben Revere play and know full well that the energy and elite speed he possesses are luxuries at his position. The 24 year old has a very high ceiling because of these amenities. Who's to say that he doesn't swipe 50 bases in a season? Or that he doesn't become a recipient of multiple golden gloves? Denard Span has been a key player and a leader for the Twins in his career. But, it may now be time to realize that he is expendable, doesn't carry the amount of potential that Revere has, and would benefit the Twins more if he was traded. Playing one of two natural Centerfielders in right or left field just isn't a great idea for the future. Span is an asset that so many teams covet as their own. The Texas Rangers, Toronto Blue Jays, Washington Nationals, Cincinnati Reds, and New York Mets are a few possible landing spots. With the exception of the Nationals (and maybe even the Reds after the Latos deal), the farm systems for all these clubhouses have some great talent in them. It may not be long until the Twins go window shopping through all their minor league affiliates. I originally disagreed and scoffed at the idea of Minnesota pawning off one of it's most prized, cheap, and young talents. But in retrospect, those three qualities are what make him so attractive to other teams. If Twins refuse jump onto the chance to acquired new up-and-coming players for 2014 and beyond, they need to get their priorities straight. Maybe it's about time the torch was passed.
24. This is the reason the Twins should have resigned Kubel. I think it's about time Mastroianni gets sent back down or cut. He's a AAAA player who doesn't bring much to the clubhouse. Last night must have been his first start in 2 weeks because I don't remember him being a part of the 5 out of 6 "hot streak". We have enough poor outfielders as is with Plouffe and Komatsu. Since Komatsu is doing the best and has the most future potential, the others better be on thin ice.
