  1. Nolasco trying to liven it up. Ugh.
  2. Lots of incentive for Gibby to pitch efficiently today.
  3. We have a little "pick the stick" contest for each series -- Plouffe is single-handedly trying to do away with the fairly sizeable lead I had.
  4. Presumably "rainout" also means "snowout".
  5. Rhett Bollinger ‏@RhettBollinger 1h Eduardo Nunez will join the #MNTwins for the Game 2. New rule says 26th player can only be active for Game 2 if DH held day after rainout.
  6. Lots of empty seats on my TV screen.
  7. Can we wait until he serves his suspension and is back on the field before we rule anything out or in? By the time he comes back, it will be late May -- 8-9 months after he last played. No spring training. Let's at least see what kind of shape he is in and how he does at New Britain before we start trying to figure out where to put him in Minnesota.
  8. But that's the problem here. "LIKELY" better talent. None of them is close enough that you can say with definiteness, that they ARE better or when they'll arrive. Rosario is the closest and I'm taking no bets there. We are talking right now during the 2014 season about a possible trade -- not sometime down the road. I've been known to rue marketing decisions playing into the baseball ones (Nishioka is a prime example for me). But at this point in time, this team has very few recognizable faces. The Twins are fortunate that Kubel has been playing well because he has some name recognition. Willingham has name recognition but can't stay on the field. Plouffe has some name recognition as well. Pinto, Hicks, Arcia will (hopefully) develop that recognition but it isn't there yet. Yes, I'd trade Dozier if the offer blew me away. But that's not going to happen -- trades are seldom that uneven. There is just no reason to trade him at this point in time.
  9. There is always the problem of getting the right return. But second, one of the things that this club needs now is players with whom fans have developed or are developing some liking and recognition. This club is sadly without that. It was one of the things I was thinking about in the Mauer lightning rod thread -- his is one of the few (only?) names/faces that most fans would recognize -- no wonder he is a lightning rod on a losing team. While Dozier doesn't have name recognition in the same manner, he at least played with the ML club for 1+ seasons and he is somewhat charismatic (good interview, good looking, southern friendliness). I can envision him becoming a fan favorite. And while that may not be a good baseball reason to keep him, it may well be a good business reason to keep him.
  10. I think this is all totally hypothetical because I believe that there is a great deal of pressure on the front office and on the field staff to win this season. Or, at least improve significantly enough to keep people coming to the ballpark after the AS break. I just don't see them trading away a young player who is playing well. I don't think that precludes a Willingham or Kubel or Correia or Pelfrey (or probably a few others) from being traded later. There may be potential replacements for Dozier but "potential" is the word there and there are still a lot of questions up in the air about those replacements.
  11. And it turns into a circus .... a good one for the Twins but unfortunately, it isn't over yet.
  12. Just demonstrates so much!
  13. No sure what anybody batting against R.J. shows. At least Hicks is taking more walks this year. I guess that would be the positive from him so far.
  14. Just once or twice an inning.
  15. Have we ever seen Hicks bat rightie against a RHP?
  16. See, the problem is you listen for the baseball. I listen for the inanities.
  17. KC announcers fascinated with a girl with a Twins hat and what they say is a Badger cap (personally I can't tell a badger hat from a bear hat).
  18. Sounds like 60-day to me.
  19. Brian Murphy ‏@murphPPress 14m CT scan reveals hairline fracture on Willingham's wrist; visiting hand specialists; no surgery; Twins hope 15-day DL suffices for recovery
  20. If it's any consolation, so far it is only collecting on the lawn, not the sidewalk. Didn't realize we were going to get this today!
  21. Snow, Snow, Snow, Snow, Snow ..... I'll try not to send it north.
  22. Looks like it is cool in the TC but not going to rain. 3. Make Halsey happy and try Mauer at leadoff for a few games!!
  23. Well, I've been on record as wanting an organizational shake-up, too. But since that isn't going to happen, I'll be happy to start with a new manager and pitching coach. And, as I've made clear repeatedly, it isn't that I think Gardenhire couldn't be a good manager elsewhere. He has simply "stayed too long at the fair" in Minnesota. But I really don't want to be such a downer when the Twins are actually winning -- and beating James Shields handily (so far). We'll all see what happens the rest of the season.
  24. I don't have mlb tv. But I live in Iowa and get the broadcasts for the Cubs, White Sox, Royals, Twins, Brewers and Cardinals (plus others from time to time on MLB TV). Bremer simply talks far too much. But most of all, we've seen and heard Dick-Bert for so d*mn many years, there just isn't anything new any more. I LOVED the Provus-Gladden broadcasts in ST but synching the TV and radio is difficult.
  25. The need for a new manager has never been about on-field decisions for me. It's about needing a fresh breeze blowing through that clubhouse. (in much the same way that I can' stand listening to Dick-Bert. Dick, Bert, Gardy -- they are all just so stale.)
