  1. It seems to me that Cal Ripken had a pretty extensive farewell tour. But so many guys just seem to end up retiring after a season ... not necessarily planned. Like Thome ... I don't think he ever had a farewell tour although he would have seemed to have merited one.
  2. Don't y'all have any decent hair stylists in the TC? Smalley is desperate for help.
  3. These solo HR are nice. Now let's get somebody on base and hit a couple.
  4. LaVelle E. Neal III ‏@LaVelleNeal 12m New Britain lost, but Aaron Hicks was 2-for-4 with a homer off a righthander Hope this means he's getting on track. He's had a rough time at NB but it seems like the last few games have been a little better.
  5. FSN needs new sound engineers. Other than Dick/Bert, their mikes don't work more than they do.
  6. Mike Berardino ‏@MikeBerardino 8m View translation Phil Hughes over past 3 starts: 8.05 ERA, 19 IP, 27 H, 17 ER, 3 BB, 16 K. EEK!
  7. Zuk making his AS case.
  8. I guess whoever jinxed Worley also jinxed Hughes.
  9. Thanks. I've bought enough over the years that I usually know but this one has me stumped.
  10. Hey, Circus Boy, what firework, shot in the daytime and undoubtedly purchased in SD, just makes one fairly big boom? Somebody has been shooting them around here periodically this afternoon. (Like about 1 an hour or so). Just don't know what this one is.
  11. If, while camping in that RV, you get up at 5:30 a.m. to make breakfast for everyone else so you can be on the road by 7, you are my dad re-incarnated.
  12. Well, apparently it was sore but not anything really to worry about: Mike Berardino ‏@MikeBerardino 28m Gardy on Mauer's mild oblique issue past 1-2 weeks: "Never even heard about it. That’s why it wasn’t anything to worry about." #MNTwins Mike Berardino ‏@MikeBerardino 19m Gardy on Mauer's non-issue (until Tuesday): "Everybody's sore. All guys are sore. It’s not an issue at all." … And per Mauer: Mike Berardino ‏@MikeBerardino 2h Mauer: "I was coming in and trying to take care of it. Nothing more than the usual nicks and things you acquire throughout a season." But then when he hit that double last night: Mike Berardino ‏@MikeBerardino 28m Video 2: "I've never been shot before but it felt like I'd been shot." -- Joe Mauer on strained oblique http://www.tout.com/m/0nsy9d?ref=twadc83l … Mike Berardino ‏@MikeBerardino 1h Mauer doesn't blame overwork in batting cage: "I didn't overdo it or anything like that. I think it was just kind of a freak thing." And to top it off: Mike Berardino ‏@MikeBerardino 2h Joe Mauer said he sneezed while he was sleeping last night and his right oblique "felt like the time I did it."
  13. I thought it was just a "mods only" thread.
  14. LaVelle E. Neal III ‏@LaVelleNeal 7m Chris Collabello is here Tyler Mason ‏@FSNtylermason 19m Chris Colabello is in the #MNTwins clubhouse this morning. No roster move has been announced, but I'd guess Joe Mauer (oblique) to the DL.
  15. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article/mlb/cubs-kris-bryant-twins-jose-berrios-pipeline-prospects-of-month?ymd=20140701&content_id=82592474&vkey=news_mlb Berrios went at least six innings in each of his six June starts, never allowing more than two earned runs in any of them. His 53 strikeouts for the month led all Minor League pitchers. On two different occasions, Berrios allowed just one hit, both in seven-run outings. He started the month with such a performance, throwing shutout ball and striking out 13 without walking a batter. He tossed up seven zeros again June 17, allowing just the single hit, while walking two and whiffing nine. Congrats to Mr. Berrios! Anxious to see how he fares in New Britain.
  16. That sounds like one of those things they used to do on "Trading Spaces" --- and where the recipients sued the show!
  17. Interesting article, Seth. Thanks. (And I believe powder blue is for babies not grown men). I was curious about his comment about "playing with instincts" and relying on coaches. How much, if any, of this goes back to kids getting a lot of coaching even in little league, high school, etc.? When Carew was growing up, did they learn more "on their own" just by dealing with situations without anyone telling them what to do? Did it give them more of a chance to develop their baseball instincts? Did they learn something just by playing ball for fun rather than in structured situations?
  18. I should watch something else more often and only check the game periodically so I could see the Twins have a real lead.
  19. Too cool. National team going to be there?
  20. Unfortunately, it seems like Nolasco is a "burden to bear".
  21. I hate giving back the run in the next inning. Ugh, Nolasco, Ugh.
  22. LOL. I'm sure he try to change your opinion many times (in both directions)
  23. Dear Dick/Bert, I'm just not sure that looking better losing is all that much consolation.
