  1. We are on to something with The Birdie King. This sites needs fans in each of the deep-pocket organization locations so they can scout these situations. Who do we know in NY, Atl, Arlington, etc?
  2. Seth and Nick, thank you for the explanation. Thank god there is a financially even playing field somewhere.
  3. I don't understand how this stuff works. Outside of the US and PR, is it a free for all? If that is the case, with teams like the Yankees in this world, how do the Twins have a chance at these players? I love how the video for Torrens calls him "El Chamo de Oro." The kid of gold.
  4. I agree that we should enjoy the good baseball and we have to stay humble per travistwinstalk. Last week Gleeman said our runs/game had gone up by 2 during this successful stretch. Likely that will take a hit when we go back to playing better squads. And, the trade deadline is approaching and moves need to be made. Can anybody say who our pitching staff will be in one year? Please don’t say Gibson like that is a lock. He has been throwing from the mound for one week; there are no guarantees. Even with him, there are still many holes. I think we are still preparing for 2014 and beyond. Randy Bush joined the radio broadcast yesterday for an inning. Talking about his Cubs he said they need to look at every short-term option and looking trading them for long-term options and so they will entertain all discussions on that topic. I hope our team is thinking the same way. One extra comment- Joe Benson’s performance and injury makes me sad. I would very much like to see him get a handle on things, get healthy and turn it around.
  5. Willingham. His contract seems very movable to me. And, any move the Twins make should be focused on 2014 or later. Youklis was mentioned and any trade like that is crazy. We need young prospects. Do we want to rebuild for 84 wins/year or 94 wins/year? Its painful but this need to be done correctly or we will be looking and many years of darkness like the mid-late 90s.
  6. I wish I did not agree. We need to roll the dice and overpay. I hope they do this for Greinke or another. He is 28. I think it might be worth it.
  7. Mr. Ed- Point taken. I will concede that I only know Willingham as a Twin which is a small sample. In that short period of time I think it is quite obvious that he is very mature at the plate. He takes a hard rip when he can and loves to pull the ball but has show that he does not force it so he will drive the ball with power to right when the pitch presents. I do not feel that Valencia does that with any consistency. I would love to see him succeed because Sano is gaining 25 pounds per year and I feel he will be too big to be agile at 3rd. Additionally, there is never a guarantee that he will make it to the big leagues, anything can happen. Valencia has shown potential to produce great #s and that is what is most frustrating. I bash attitude because it seems like we are watching the same things happen over and over. How did you like Danny's ground out to the shortstop last night on yet another pitch that was outer half? It was the first out in the bottom of the 9th.
  8. I can't help but agree with powrwrap. His days are numbered. His insistence on pulling the ball is so huge for me. He has hit a few balls to right center and when it happens it is a thing of beauty but it does not happen enough. I was even mad at his home run to bullpen on Monday. That pitch was up and away and luckily he caught it perfectly. That swing normally produces a ground ball to the shortstop and I am tired of it. He needs to watch Willingham for a while. Josh is a pull hitter and he is mature with discipline. When given the pitch he will drive it to right center and it has shown great results. If Valencia were to grow up he could net himself a multi-year and multi-million dollar contract.
  9. I have always felt that a motion like Liriano's is destined to not be consistent. When you fall off the mound so badly it seems to me that it makes for less chance to be repeatable with success. I know the experts focus on the balance at release but I can't help but think the rest of the motion also has something to say. There have been those like Pedro Martinez who have made it work but I feel the overwhelming amount of successful pitchers do not have these crazy mechanics. Look at Cliff Lee. His balance is perfect and he continues to be fantastic.
