  1. As far as injury history goes, Madbum was injured in a dirt bike accident and hasn't been the same. Idk that he trumps Ryu there. I think the most recent season should weigh most heavily, and Ryu blows Madbum away. Anybody who throws 2.32 has figured something out. I don't care if it's the NL, that's still very good. I'll take 180 innings of that over 200 of Bumgarner's.
  2. Ryu? But... ... what about Ryu? I thought you were leading to him as the "one candidate". I think the Twins net him soon. 2.32 last year, I'll be very happy if he's 3.32 with us in 2020. I'm still holding out hope for Strasburg, too. $200M
  3. The OP is known to hold a very low opinion of Strasburg. I wouldn't pay much heed. Think about the WS rotation. If Berrios is the #1, we should be looking for a new #1. Strasburg (2019 WSMVP) checks that, idk about Bumgarner (post dirt bike accident).
  4. You said offer 6/170 for Strasburg, and 4/105 for Bumgarner. So about $2M/year difference between Strasburg and Bumgarner?
  5. Estimated contracts are way low. Strasburg 25/year, lol. I wish for Strasburg and Ryu. I hear the Twins'are willing to meet Ryu's asking price.
  6. Kiriloff, Rooker, Raley, Wiel or someone else in our system will get hot. Don't look for a placeholder, CJ Cron WAS the placeholder.
  7. Good choice. Money for a first baseman is money not for pitching.
  8. I would. Just because I don't want to get into a costly commitment to Zach Wheeler shouldn't lead to make some sweeping assumption regarding a different thing, trades. Every situation is different. I don't know if Wheeler will be as good as Ryu, but he's going be more expensive and cost a draft pick. If it's Cole or Strasburg, though, I don't hesitate to give up my first rounder.
  9. The second round pick alone, no. But the "price to pay" is 5 or more years commitment, 100 or more million. People say he's going to be good. Ryu was the better pitcher most recently. I'd rather have him for less than five years.
  10. Too much money for the easiest position to fill. We got Kiriloff and Rooker coming.
  11. Music to my ears. We're the Twins, we can't afford to give up early round picks with our blockbuster signings. Ryu has no QO attached. Maybe he's the target and interest in Wheeler is feigned. Keep hearing 5 years 100-110 million, but I think that might be the floor. After that postseason, the FA pitcher market is gonna be crazy.
  12. I hope they fill the rotation with free agents first, see how that works. Maybe it goes well, if it doesn't then trade. The advantage of waiting until the regular season is you get to see how well pitchers are performing during the season and target guys who are playing at a high level at the time of the trade.
  13. 2/35?! That doesn't seem a realistic assessment for a guy with a 2.96 era prior year. Did you see what Gibson got?! Yeah, he's 33. Kyle Gibson is 32 and had a much worse 2019 than Ryu.... 3 years 30 million. I think it's a sign that this year's free agent pitchers are gonna make a killing. You wanna pay Wheeler 110 million, well would you wanna pay more than that? Just saying, look at that Gibson contract. We might need to throw out the guesstimates.
  14. Why not? First off, he's a better pitcher. Wheeler might take two more years commitment. He might never be as good as Ryu over the course of a longer contract. One thing that might not be as important to you as it is to me, Ryu has no QO attached to him.
  15. Bidding for Wheeler might be to high. Go hard after Ryu. I'd go 4 years $80 million. Some might think that's high. I might have until seeing Gibson's contract. Might not be enough. Then maybe offer Hamels a multi year deal to get him here. He's a lefty who could be still hold valuab as a reliever if he doesn't work out as a starter. With the three batter minimum rule in effect, his starting experience might play well as a left handed reliever used to facing top right-handed talent. Rotation: Berrios Odorizzi Ryu Hamels (Smeltzer/Thorpe/Dobnak)/Pineda I'd prefer Cole or Strasburg at the top of that rotation but I don't have much hope that happens. The upside of this scenario is we wouldn't have to give up a draft pick, and you wouldn't have any 5+ year commitments.
  16. I like the rationale applied to the group of prospects, but Rosario, we should expect little in return for and still go ahead and trade. Sick of his mental gaffes and constantly doing opposing pitchers favors by swinging at garbage pitches. Guys put in good at bats around him and the efforts are wasted when he swings at the first pitch in the dirt. I've seen him work some long counts, so I know he's capable, it's just lack of focus. Getting thrown out at third to end the inning trying to extend a double is inexcusable and shows his lack of discipline. He's not even a good fielder anymore. If I didn't think I could trade him for even a low level prospect I wouldn't pay him his arbitration amount. I'd cut him if you can't trade him. Don't want his bad habits on this team for 8.9 million.
  17. In 2021, We could have a Rooker and Kiriloff rotation at 1B and DH with Larnach in LF. Who of this group, including Raley, has the best defense in OF, I wonder?
  18. I also like Wade as a 4th outfielder. Very good plate discipline, I prefer him to Cave. Wade just seems more comfortable and competent in his role. I'm in the trade Rosario camp. I won't expect much in return. Clear the way for this group. I also really like that ability to play first that these guys have. We might not need a first baseman.
  19. If the Twins could get Dozier to sign for dirt cheap...
  20. If you're going to spend 200+ at least get Cole or Strasburg. Leave Sano at third, forget Rendon, forget Betts, put Kiriloff at first and give Garver some starts there too cuz I like the Grandal signing very much (and the Ryu signing). Use the money you didn't spend on Rendon and Betts on blowing away any reservations either Cole or Strasburg have to coming to Minnesota. You play with the idea of going over $200 mil and don't land either of the big guns?! Turrible! Skip Rendon and Betts and overpay Strasburg or Cole. $40+ million a year? Welcome to Minnesota!!
  21. I like that it's only one year. We need arms badly and Odorizzi is a good start. I like him but we need to try to improve the rotation at the top. We need to spend our money and/or tradeable prospects on top of the rotation guys that would precede Odorizzi in the rotation. Same for Berrios. If Berrios is our ace, than we should still be looking for an ace. We were desperate to fill out the rotation this year with only Berrios coming back, so this is great news. But now we need to add to the top of the rotation making everyone better. Cole and Strasburg may prefer other destinations to Minnesota, so then we have to go hard after Wheeler and Ryu, get one of those guys hopefully, or even better both. Hamels doesn't have a QO and wouldn't cost a draft pick. Same for Ryu. Here's a rotation with 3 FAs (4 if Odorizzi included) but only one draft pick lost: Wheeler, Berrios, Odorizzi, Ryu, Hamels. It's going to cost more than $52 million, but Wheeler and Ryu would be on multi year deals and put us in good position when Odorizzi leaves next off season.
  22. Hyun-jin Ryu would be a nice get considering we wouldn't have to give up a draft pick, if we can pry him away from the Dodgers. Cole Hamels didn't get a QO either. Those two to go with one of Cole, Strasburg, or Wheeler, if you gonna lose a draft pick, do it on one of these three. I think Bumgarner might get caught up in the same situation as Keuchel and Kimbrel last off season. Maybe teams think better of him but giving up a pick is going to hurt his stock, along with considering his age and diminishing talent. I wonder who will be free agents until after the draft this year.
  23. I think Zander Wiel is a better option over CJ Cron mainly because of the money. He looks ready to go, he's won multiple awards in the system. What more do you want, he's RIPENED? Time to harvest!
