  1. retaining Astudillo means you can 'have' 3 catchers, without wasting a roster spot. Turtle can play so many positions he wouldn't have to be a 3rd catcher per se. He gives the team extra utility.
  2. Buxton and Sano are interesting ones. I believe Buxton is just one more injury away from being traded. He is a great talent but if he can only play a half season or less, I think Twins would be best to move him. Sano--if they could parlay him into a trade for a top line starter, I would make that trade. Sano for me is one of the most frustrating hitters on the team. No question he has mammoth power, but as we saw in the post season, he still has those stretches where he can't hit sand on the beach.
  3. enjoyed the comments. These are from fans who really care about the team. I was leaning on wanting Berrios to pitch one more inning. Some of you sort of convinced me that may have not been wise. We just didn;t know our pen would stink the entire series (when it counted) I also agree that if they wanted to put Kepler on the roster, he needed to play the final week, at least a little. His was a totally wasted roster spot. Wade or Astudillo should have taken his place. He wasn't ready to play. Turtle should have been on the roster instead of Adrianza (or Kepler) Twins hitters struck out with reckless abandon. There were spots when they needed someone to put bat on ball. Turtle had the best chance of doing that. For me leaving him off was the biggest mistake of postseason. (i know some, maybe many here are now laughing their behinds off...but it wasn't at all funny watching pathetic AB's from Kepler, Garver and Sano, when it mattered. Arraez earned his playing time. I don't think Schoop could have done any better. Arraez didn't cost us game one. Our pitching did. And our managers decisions on who to use in a game we might have been able to win. Twins did nothing to change the direction of their horrible offense. No one tried to lay one down to get in a run. I know thats anathama to a 307 HR hitting team...but the HR's weren't coming...the k's were. Also no one tried to beat the god forsaken shift (which I wish they would somehow outlaw next year) finally, I absolutely was disgusted with Rocco's post series interview. That wasn't the time to be 'happy' about anything. It was insulting. Best he said very little beyond, 'you saw the games, we were beaten all 3 games, the Yankees played well, we'll try again next year.' NOBODY cared to hear about the wonderful 101 regular season...at that time. It didn;t matter. It was bad enough watching us be the only team that couldn't win a game...but to listen to our manager making light of it....nope. Not a fan of that.
  4. I mostly agree with the assessments. Gibson probably time to move on. Don't hate him. Just think we have seen the best of him. Romo...great insurance in the pen. Dyson...remember him? Looks like he might not even pitch next year. What a lousy deal that turned out to be. Still think Twins got hosed for damaged goods. I know it has been debated. Cron--here's the thing. Would Twins trade Sano for the right deal? Pitching. If so, Cron should stay. Castro...he's gone. Twins are pretty deep in catchers. Hopefully Garver recovers from his crappy post season...both offense and defense. Odorizzi...bring him back. Perez...no Schoop had an OK year, but definitely Arraez made him expendable and Adrianza is a good backup. Turtle should stay. Valuable fill in player. Clap clap....Cruz is returning. Excellent. Pineda...I really hated what he did to the team. I guess you bring him back and hope he remembers that he owes us bigtime.
  5. What is frustrating if you are a Twins fan is that a team like Tampa, who was not expected to win even one game from the powerful Astros, fell behind 2 games to none and came back to win the next two. They never gave an inch and they played hard and smart. They may not win game 5 but at least they gave what few fans they have a little hope and post season excitement. Twins didn't do any of that. Why? Is Rocco 'happy' with what he got? Are we? Could the Twins have done what the Rays have done against a superior team? Or is it simply the Twins cannot beat the Yankees....no matter who wears either uniform?
  6. The gloom is warranted...if you are a fan, and winning is important. If not, different story. Why SHOULDN'T fans be very disappointed at what we just saw, if winning in post season is important. Post season finishes off the regular season. Its what they all play for. Its harder to win in October than April for many reasons. Some organizations just do it a lot better than others. Its good that you can't point a finger at just one player for this failure. Almost all of them contributed. Their bats turned to sawdust with runners on. The strikeouts mounted so fast you could barely keep track of them. The bullpen that was so terrific second half, all went to hell in a handbasket. Rogers, Romo, May, Duffey...they all failed when asked to hold the line. The stage was too big for Dobnak. The manager lifted Berrios way too soon. Littell's inexperience got the better of him. Kepler played hurt and looked awful...hitless. Garver suddenly stopped hitting. Sano fanned 8 of 12 times and hit a weak pop up in a spot that could have broken the game open early. He looked like Sano 2018. Even Cruz did not have the series we hoped he would have. They put Adrianza on the roster and kept Turtle off....and then never played Adrianza? Castro probably would have whiffed as many times as Garver. No 100 win team should ever be embarrassed the way the Twins were. Some will argue this really isn't a 100 win team. Well it was, making the playoff failure feel even worse. But the time to 'feel happy', proud...etc about the regular season is not right now. Maybe in a few weeks. But not now. How our manager can say he's happy, right now, just doesn't make any sense.
  7. There were about 100 different ways he could have handled that interview. To say he wasn't frustrated was like saying he didn't care. No fire. No compete. The only team to get swept...again,,and he's not frustrated. Gee whiz...at least acknowlege that it was not a good series. I hate iinterviews like that. As for being a 'players manager', I have never felt that is a good thing either. As a result, this is what you get. There is a nice balance of distance you must keep. The fans just witnessed 3 of the worst played games of 2019, at the worst possible time. I think its fair to show frustration. He didn't manage well..and his players definitely didn't respond at all.His bullpen failed. His starters failed...except for Jake. His hitters were a big disaster...3 of them who pretty much helped carry the offense during the year...Sano, Garver, Kepler were totally inept...totally. And their 'd' was nothing to write home about either. Situational hitting was non existent. The game was over when Sano, Gonzo and Cave failed in the 2nd inning. They all forgot that you can score runs without HR's. They said they weren't concerned about 'history'..but they neglected to factor in 2019 history....and how the Yanks beat them 4 of 6 including that miserable 14-12 game. Yankees are the better team, but may not be once they hit Houston. They own us completely. What I saw was a Twins team with little fire, little commitment and that starts at the top. Being too laid back when you are struggling is not good. Gone was all the dugout excitement. Maybe they missed the Turtle? Even Cruz had a lousy series. Standing there watching strike 3 to end it all...said it all. It was a great regular season. It was a tremendous flop in the playoffs. We all get to choose how we feel about that.
  8. Yet ironically we also saw Kepler, Garver and Sano take HUGE steps backwards when it counted. The 3 of them were useless. didn't expect that.
  9. how big were those two runs? And Didi breaks our heart again, Kepler was a total waste in this series. And what was Cruz doing watching strike 3 right down the center of the plate to end it? A completely miserable post season. In every way. Now everyone can start telling us how we should be happy that we won 101 games. Failure like this in post season is nothing to be proud of. But thats only how I feel. Others will see it differently. It was painful watching these 3 games.
  10. I would definitely consider trading Sano. I'd let Rosario stay.
  11. This game hurts a lot more than the two blowouts. We really had a chance to win this one...the other two were lost causes. Well its 4-1 now. Yankees just continue to hurt us every way they know how. We have no answers for them. Maybe they might be thinking a bit more about 'history'...meaning you never take a Yankee team for granted. And this years 'history' indicated we couldn't keep up yet again. Its all pretty ugly. When you fail this badly in postseason, there is a lot to think about. when you're the only team that couldn't win one game in the tournament, its a bit embarrassing.
  12. guarantee it would have reduced the number of k's. But it seems many here are rejoicing that he isn't playing. I'm not one of them.
  13. And Sano whiffs for the 8th time in 12 AB's. I don't think thats very good. Toss in that weak pop up in the 2nd and you have the anatomy of failure. Kepler and Garver are right there as well. those 3 guys have killed us.
  14. not wanting to sound like a real jerk, but it might be that Rogers not being able to keep Yanks off the board may be the difference in this game. So many shoulda coulda woulda's in this game. If only Eddie's 2nd inning blast was a little more to center, it would have gone out. As it turns out we never got that run. So we now have to deal with Chapman. Our hope is that he is wild,.But we have been swinging at bad pitches all series....so may not matter.
  15. 2nd inning was the game. 3 terrible AB's by Sano, Gonzo and Cave nailed the coffin...you just can't let that happen in a game so important. And they never recovered. (at least probably not)
  16. pretty easy to see Keplers shoulder injury has sapped him of any power. None of his AB's go very far or very hard. He and Garver have been invisible. Along with, well everyone pretty much not named Arraez. since Twins got their 4th run in game one, they have scored a grand total of 2, and both of them came when the game was out of reach.
  17. once the count is 3-2 the batter may as well just head back to the dugout. No one has gotten a hit, I don't think, in the entire series. Every close play...every hard hit ball...has gone the Yankees way. When you're hot, you're hot and right now the Yanks are boiling.
  18. and Twins will try yet again. Cron with a surprising pinch hit on an 0-2 pitch gets it started. Gotta find a way to keep the hits coming. somehow, some way.....
  19. If we can't score runs, doesn't matter how good our pitching is. And we can't score runs.
  20. The good teams in post season are the ones that can score with 2 outs. Yanks can do that while the Twins are incapable of one single lousy clutch hit tonite. They have 3 more chances. Geez, at least score one run for the faithful fans. At this point thats probably the best we can hope for, barring a total, unexplained turnaround. Starting........NOW
  21. well, thats it. Now we're done. I think the only team Didi gets hit against is Minnesota. He owns us. Rogers not able to slam the door. Why not. Just about everyone else is failing, he may as well too.
  22. he is not alone. but tonite he is totally awful at the plate...and his interference cost us a run. guess you might say he's having a bad game!
  23. Garver fans again on a 3-2 pitch (wish someone would tell us how many times that has happened this series) but then both Sano and Gonzo put good wood on the ball.....and come up empty. amid the gloom of this series....my hat goes off to Arraez....he has really stepped up and I didn't think he could. He is truly amazing. 9 more outs is all we get. Our homeruns have disappeared completely. But worse, so has that clutch single up the middle with RISP...totally gone.
  24. if this game stays close and we still lose and don't score any runs....we can pretty much say that everything thats possible to go wrong has gone wrong. the pitching stunk for two games, and was good for one but the bats disappeared in a pile of strikeouts, popouts and other assorted outs. If somehow they pull this out of the fire, it would be a HUGE lift for everyone. they have had more chances to score than the Yanks.
