  1. Masterson and Anderson would be my choices ... And... And... They both have good Minnesota names.
  2. No brainer... Keep Escobar and the good problem to have that comes with him. Please... Please... Please... Dear Powers that be. Do not settle on starters and lock in. Embrace the flexibility that Santana, Escobar and maybe even Plouffe can bring and utilize that flexibility. While prepping for the arrival of Buxton and Sano. Have honest to god competition for each position... Insurance at all positions. Play Santana in CF and SS... It will sort itself out if you manage your lineuos creatively. Nobody on the 2015 roster should have to sit for extended periods of time. The entire roster should be able to produce and help win games. Bring in a LF who can also play CF and you are good to go with the Offense and Defense. Then you can focus on Pitching.
  3. I went to Buffalo Wild Wings once. And to please my wife... I looked at the menu for awhile before finally ordering the Wings I always have. My wife worries about me and was probably hoping... I'd get something different. A salad maybe. Reflecting on it... There was no reason for me to look at the menu... I was getting Wings. Looking at the menu was a dog and pony show. Nothing wrong with knowing you want wings. If you find what you want. Stop looking.
  4. Just the Jersey. Not the Pants It would look great. We'd own that Color!!!
  5. How did you know my mothers maiden name was Oky?
  6. Good News... I'm all for no pinstripes... I've never been a fan. Bring back the Robins Egg Blue for the Road Jersey and I will be really happy.
  7. Riverbrian: C'mon Bert... This Way Bert: Where are we going? Riverbrian: No place special... Nothing to worry about Bert: I didn't get any of the Crab Legs at the buffet.. Hold on... Riverbrian: Never mind the crab... C'mon... You are needed elsewhere. We gotta go now. (Ok... He's out now)
  8. I brought Blyleven into this discussion... But I want to be clear that I'm not advocating the hiring of Bert. I'm not advocating anyone because I dint know enough about the horses racing. Just mentioning Bert because his Dutch squads lacked big names yet performed decently in the WBC's. Bert just maybe someone that nobody thought about it... And maybe they ain't thinking about him for good reason.
  9. I've heard it said... Don't know if it's true... But I've heard it said... In a lot of cases... The best of the best can't explain to others how they did it... It just came natural to them. They never had to think about how they did it... They just fell out of bed doing it.
  10. Yeah... But he can circle things!!!
  11. There are many different ways to skin a cat. And that is why I continue to not be concerned about the overall payroll number from year to year. The most consistent successful cat skinning in my mind is still Starting Pitching. After that... It's a consistent pipeline of talent coming from The minors who can pressure under performing vets for playing time. That Pipeline isn't just the Buxton's and Sano's of the world. It's the Panik's and Dozier's and Santana's of the world. That's why I want the next manager to NOT lock in on a under performing player. Playing the slumping guy every day... Just because he's supposed to perform better but doesn't. With Santana and Vargas and Escobar... The Twins are starting to produce some things. We could field 13 players who can all play a little in 2015... This manager change is happening at a good time. Providing that Molitor doesn't lock in like Gardy tended to.
  12. First off... I don't have an opinion and I won't have an opinion... Other than hoping that Molly hires a guy who can get the most of our staff. I have no idea who that guy could possibly be. With that said... I wonder if Bert Be Home By Eleven is drawing any consideration. It may seem like an odd choice to some... But... The Dutch pitching staffs performed well in the WBC's under Bert. And... And... Bert would be able to CIRCLE mechanical trouble spots when going over video. Ricky Nolasco... Your release point is too high.. This is causing your pitch to sail up in the zone.... You are hereby circled. Trevor May... Your strike foot is landing inconsistently... This is giving you your control problems... You are hereby circled.
  13. I can't imagine the Braves walking away from Heyward. That young player will get it together. He's still young and figuring it all out. Especially with Upton issues in the OF. I can't imagine Hart moving him... No matter what is offered. You couldn't even say Heyward to Hart without him saying Upton back to you. Ryan: I like that Heyward Kid... How Much? Hart: B.J.... He's got speed... Power... He'd be a nice fit in Minnesota. I could make that happen... B.J. Upton in a Twins uniform. Ryan: Can't do it with Upton... Let's get back to Heyward. Hart: I watched B.J. Hit a ball 475 feet to dead center... Drop the bat and sprint full speed and he caught the ball he hit. He's amazing!!! Ryan: My guys are telling me Heyward is what we need in our OF. Hart: Your Guys? Ryan: Twins Daily Hart: B.J. Ran into a burning orphanage and pulled out 20 young children to safety just last night... He's feeding the poor. Positive P.R... I'm telling you... I would only make this deal with someone I respected... Like you... Ummm... Terry.
  14. Ok... Molitor is the Manager. Now let's put a team together for Molly to work with.
  15. All I can do is go back to hoping that the new Manager is... Maddon Like. That's how I felt immediately after Gardy was let go and how I felt until the moment that Maddon opted out of his deal to tempt me into full Joe Maddon finger crossing. If we get a guy who is Maddon like. It'll be Ok. Just show me... We have a guy who has the lineup creativity to utilize all 25 players and not rot players on the bench. Just show me... We have a guy who will play the hot hand instead of the guy who is supposed to have the hotter hand. Just show me... We have a guy that kills the idea of a Getaway Day lineup. Crowding all the bench players into the lineup in one day instead of scattering these rests and substitution throughout the yea... Month... Week... or... based on matchups. Just show me stuff like that and I'll get past Maddon going to the Cubs.
  16. Trying to leave my shoes... Because I'd like Maddon to manage my team... Trying to leave The Twins Shoes. And put myself into Joe's Shoes. If I was Joe... This Free Agent possibility would be the chance to remove something he's always had to work around. "The small market budget". He's had to go toe to toe with the Yankees and Red Sox year after year and do so knowing that David Price and James Shields were going to be eventually playing for the Red Sox or Yankees. If I was Joe... I'd be looking at the big money clubs for my next contract. Because that way... If he devoloped a Myers into a superstar. He'd have a better chance of keeping that superstar into his FA contract years. If I was Joe... It wouldn't matter if the Cubs or Twins had a great pipeline of young talent. I'd want to know which organization could retain that young talent. This would provide the one thing he didn't have in Tampa. This makes the Cubs attractive because they have the potential to be a big money club. With that said... The Twins at the very least... Should sit down with Joe. Just ask the question. "What would it take... What are you looking for?" If Joe expresses what I just did. You either conform or you move on. But you gotta ask the question. Not asking... Is shortsighted.
  17. If the report is accurate and money was the reason that Maddon wasn't contacted. I would feel comfortable saying that this decision lacks the foresight that God gave to a deck of playing cards.
  18. I'm also under the impression... Based upon how long Gardy held his job and the relationship he seemed to have with Terry Ryan.... It gives me the impression that any managerial candidate would love to work for the stability that Terry Ryan and the Pohlads provide. I agree... I hope Money isn't an issue. This is one of those guys you go get and pay what it takes if you are serious about getting better.
  19. I'm rarely comfortable expressing strong opinions on Manager Candidates because I just don't have enough information on their philosophy. However... I've stated that I'd like a Joe Maddon type. So... When hoping for a Joe Maddon type. Why not hope for Thee Joe Maddon. Joe would rank #1 on my list and so much so that he would also be choice #2 3 4 5 and 6. #7 would be the guy who worked for him Martinez. Joe would be the perfect match for our Roster next year and beyond. Because we will have a roster full of players who can play a little and offer position flexibility just like Joe is the best at managing. Joe will know how to handle Plouffe when Sano arrives. Please Please Please make this happen... Pay him 10 Million a year... It ain't my money... I don't care. Get this one.
  20. Pfft... If I was playing pro ball. Everytime I homered... (probably every 15 AB's)... I would touch em all shirtless and dance the cha cha all the way around. I'd high five the SS while yelling woo hoo. When I get to the dugout... I'm pouring Gatorade over my head... And then I'm kissing a random girl in the stands. (My wife will allow it cuz I'm making a lot of money). If it was a Grand Slam... My pants are coming off. Unwritten rules smules. I'm celebrating!!! And... And... After I'm beaned by the pitcher in my next at bat... I'm taking first and stealing 2nd.
  21. The playoffs this year have been exceptional in my opinion. A couple extra tugs to the batters glove and another trip to the mound hasn't driven me to Animal Planet yet... And I like watching Gorillas.
  22. I was always disapointed that I would never get to see Led Zeppelin in concert. They broke up when I was 15 years old. I'm a fan... I can sing along to every song from every album. I was sadly resigned to the thought that I would never see them. In 1998... Page/Plant reunited and toured and Fargo was a stop. I was not going to miss this. I figured this would be the closest to seeing Zeppelin in concert. I got front row tickets. 33 years old and I'm counting the days like a teenager. Page was so wasted... I wished that I wasn't in the front row. He kept spitting and he sucked at it. The spit would come out of his mouth and hang there. It would get in his guitar strings. And then he would do it again. Spit... Hang... In the guitar strings. Finally break from his lips... Fall to the floor... And then again... Spit... Hang... Guitar strings. It got to the point that Robert Plant Couldnt even hold my attention. Page was a train wreck and its all I could see and that was my takeaway from a concert that I waited my entire life for. To Jimmy Page... I assume it was Game 75 in Fargo North Dakota. To me... It was the waste of a lifetime.
  23. As for TV broadcasts... When you consider the entire cume (audience size) of regular season games. Most have a problem watching baseball for 30 minutes and the lack of intensity of the game is part of the why in my opinion. The discussion of trying to get the length of the game down is nearly pointless. Since most people(Not us) are only watching an inning or two. Weather the game lasts 3:45 or 3:20 only effects a small percentage of those who actually watch the entire game. In reality... The loss of 25 minutes shortens the window for accumulating short time viewers and those short time viewers add to the ratings. For those attending games... The length of game is more of an issue granted but... Come playoff time... The length is less of a concern because... It's more intense. In my opinion.
  24. It's not simply overwrought reactions that I'm talking about... Although... I do like the fist pump attitude during any game... any inning... any situation. I think it's infectious. I'm talking about the whole package. It's so completely noticeable watching the playoffs that It doesn't compare to June ball. Watch the batter's face when the ump calls a strike outside the zone... It's different. Nobody is coasting into second when the ball hits the gap. The diving play percentage goes up significantly. The manager is hooking pitchers at the first hint of trouble. At bats are not given away. The pitchers are steely-eyed and yes... The dugouts are overwroughtly reacting to a run scoring groundball single in the 2nd inning. And Yes... The crowds are acting like animals and that can be fire fuel. It's just noticeably different... And I'm wondering out loud if it should be.
  25. LOL... I continue to not care about payroll as much as others do. I just don't see this as a payroll issue. Other than the possibility that the security of a large contract could lead to a subdued sense of the importance of each at bat in a long string of them. Maybe it's the Baseball Coach in me that is speaking out.
