  1. IMO... That'd be gutty with a 223 million dollar payroll. It's like a 223 million dollar house with a window broken for 6 months before you fix it.
  2. I remember being against signing him as a free agent. I wasn't a Hughes fan... I felt he lacked a certain... toughness on the mound when I watched him pitch for the Yankees. It seemed like every time he needed to make a pitch in a big spot... he didn't. For full disclousure... I remember wanting Nolasco and being simply OK with Pelfrey as a 5th spot guy. The guy I wanted instead of Hughes was Kazmir if I remember correctly. Once he signed with us.. He was impressive. It's debatable if he was extended to soon however... I think Terry Ryan was wrong only in hindsight. At the time... it made sense. It's pitching... if someone shows you something... go ahead and roll with it. Fast forward to today... I'm hoping big time that he rebounds and helps us out. I won't dismiss it as a possibility. With that said... perhaps my biggest hope is that he isn't simply handed a spot in the rotation... I hope he has to legitimately compete for it. I want multiple people competing for the rotation... From Hughes to May to Taylor Rogers. I simply want less toleration of 5 plus ERA's overwhelming the rotation. If Gibson has to be moved to the bullpen or waived... so be it. 2017 needs to be a show me that you have fixed whatever the hell went wrong in 2016 year.
  3. I was hoping Rockies
  4. I get that and I can't argue any of it because I don't know what has been on the table. DeLeon by himself? DeLeon/Alverez? DeLeon/+1 or +2 I'm ok forgetting about Bellinger... I want pitching so I don't care... But let's say DeLeon is on the table. That I assume means Urias is off the table. That in itself is the Dodgers saying you can't have this guy but you can have this guy. Don't misunderstand me... I'm not saying that we should get Urias or else go home but it's an example of how I come to the gut feeling. I've read some rumors stating that Alverez is off the table as well.... even as the piece... None of us know if that's true but that would be prospect #2 off the table and that leads to thoughts of DeLeon being the prospect they are comfortable giving up. There will be no reason to check my conviction on these feelings. I've only read rumors and have no idea what has been asked or offered. It's just anytime I read that so and so will not be included... it makes me stop and think about it.
  5. Perfectly Coherent and I agree. I'd rather be in the position of trading prospects than needing to acquire them. To me... it kind of feels like... you can't have this guy because he's gonna be a superstar and you can't have this guy because he's gonna be amazing... but... you can... have,,, this guy... He might work out for you. On Adam Eaton... The Nationals have won the trade until any of those 3 pitchers do something decent in the majors.
  6. I don't think Drjim would trade Gonsalves either. He was saying what he would trade Gonsalves if the situation was reversed and the Twins had the Dodgers major league roster and needed Dozier.
  7. Rumors coming out now that the Dodgers are talking with the Tigers again. They were discussing Bellinger to the Tigers in November. Looks like the Dodgers don't want to test that cushion.
  8. In my way of thinking... that just seems way to cavalier for my tastes. A GM shouldn't be thinking... we are a playoff team anyway... that's dangerous. I think you plug your holes and then address the unplanned holes at the deadline. You could be right but the 2B need looks pretty clear to me.
  9. I can see what you are saying. I think you are being a little rough on the rotation because It looks pretty good to me. DeLeon as a depth arm wouldn't be a bad idea but I think if they have concerns about their depth... they could have hung on to Smyly. However... If Forsythe could be acquired for less than DeLeon... Wouldn't that deal be done already? If the Dodgers are willing to give up DeLeon for Dozier... I'd have to assume that if the Rays would take Stewart for Forsythe... The Dodgers would have had a pen in hand ready for signatures. This leads me back to... I don't think Forsythe is on the Market and there has to be mark up to convince someone to sell what they were not planning on selling. Who knows... Maybe the Smyly trade was clearing room for a DeLeon acquisition... Who knows.
  10. I believe the Dodgers know that there isn't a decent Plan B available when it comes to the 2nd Base Hole. I believe this because the Dodgers still have that hole at 2B... It's been over a month and the hole is unfilled. I think the Dodgers have made the phone calls and have realized that nobody is selling. Kinsler: The Tigers were rumored to be considering moving some players for prospects but JD Martinez and everyone else is still in town. The White Sox have made the Central one team weaker and it looks like the Tigers are going to take another run at it. Therefore Kinsler is not on the market and if a player is not available... He will cost more to make him available. Not to mention the contract extension he will require to give up his no trade. Forsythe: His name is often mentioned. The Rays have a damn good starting rotation... They added Rasmus and Ramos to improve the offense... why would they weaken it. With that rotation... you can't count the Rays out of it. If the Rays front office counted themselves out with that rotation... they need a new front office. If they were to consider it... Bellinger would have to be the guy they asked for. Profar: Maybe... But...the Rangers can look around the landscape and see that Dodgers have nobody else to trade with just like the Dodgers are looking around at the landscape and noticing that the Twins don't have anybody to trade with. Profar was the Moncada of prospects just a few years back... I assume that Profar will be costly. Braun/Gennett: Ryan Braun has 20 million a year on his contract until 2021. Yes... the Dodgers can afford it and Yes the Brewers can eat some money but how much will the Brewers eat and why would the Dodgers take on that money when you can trade for Brian Dozier for two years at less that Braun will make in one year. If you look around the league... It's hard to identify teams that would be sellers at 2B and if they ain't selling... it will be expensive to convince them to be sellers. I guess I'm saying... If the Twins have been taking a hard stance for a month and not budged... the Dodgers would have filled 2B with Plan B already. The Dodgers haven't and that begs the question... why not? The Twins may be the only team selling right now.
  11. Like a Meteorologist... the data indicates that a trade/storm will happen somewhere. The analysis suggests Los Angeles but the system may slide north and hit San Francisco instead. Or Maybe San Diego Damn this meteorology is tough.
  12. If you over look his skating ability. Dozier will be a nice fit for the Leafs. Auston Matthews could use a Veteran Mentor with Power and someone who is an expert in the correct spelling of first names.
  13. I disagree but you got me wanting Ice Cream now
  14. Mmm... Funny how "things change" from year to year. I won't knock Cano... He's extraordinary. However... it's not even a debate for me... It's Altuve.
  15. I'd take your call Levi
  16. Yes they did and that's great if your goal is to win with the least amount of talent possible. The Dodgers have the 200 million dollar payroll and the high expectations. Losing 103 games lowers the expectations quite a bit. DeLeon isn't going to move the expectation needle enough so the Twins have a little time. I'm reasonably sure that the 2B market is soft for sellers and buyers right now. If they thought it was hard to get Dozier when the Twins are selling... They will probably find it hard to acquire a different 2B from a team that isn't selling and most are not. If they don't get Dozier... they maybe calling Utley again and that's great if you are trying to beat the Cubs with the least amount of talent possible. I think the Dodgers need Dozier more
  17. I think the majority of the Anti-Trade bandwagon would be ok with something like that as well.
  18. It can look like "one outlier season" It also can look like a 4 year trend upward. If I'm the Dodgers... Dozier is the guy I'd want and he'd bat 3rd in the lineup behind Seager and in front of A Gon.
  19. Honestly... If I looked deep into my heart... The broader point of "things change" is true but not really the biggest point on how I truly feel. #1... Without even knowing what was offered... I'm pretty sure that Friedman wouldn't take the deal he is offering. Friedman is too good at this. He's not going to pay $2 when he knows that $1 is the best offer outside Southern California. I don't blame him but it doesn't mean that we should take the $1. #2... The trade is too perfect... Dozier fits perfectly with the Dodgers needs and everybody involved has to know that and the Dodgers are perfect for the Twins because they have the extra arms and everybody involved has to know that. The Twins need to quit asking for $3 and the Dodgers need to quit offering $1 and just complete the trade already. Forget the market... look at each other as gentlemen and complete the deal. #3... In my opinion... The Dodgers need Dozier more than the Twins need to move Dozier and keeping Dozier is our only leverage and I would never give that away. #4... I'd rather Falvey/Lavine eat Dozier for the next couple of years than give the Dodgers exactly what they want. The 2B they need while they give up the prospects they are comfortable giving up. #5... There is more than one way to skin a cat. I'm hopeful the front office can improve the team with or without Dozier on the roster. #6... Things Change... Dozier may regress a little or lot but the 2B market may change as well and if it changes for the worse... so be it. Dozier is one of us. The "Things change" Broader point... is just my response to the Dozier diminishing in value... we must take whatever we can get now concern. The 2B market is unfortunately soft right now.
  20. I'll use this opportunity to post mine. I'm not into ranking prospects sight unseen but I will proudly post my opinions on Major league players. Not knowing the criteria that they used to compile their lists. I will state that my list will remove all considerations such as contract or age... basically anything that can dramatically alter value. My list will be simply chosen from which player will help you win in 2017... My Health Spidey Sense assumptions with no medical degree will be part of my consideration... Sorry Neil Walker... This is of course... In my opinion. 1. Altuve -- He's so #1 that #2 and #3 will have to be moved down to #4 and #5 4. Cano 5. Dozier 6. Murphy - Love his Bat but I don't think he's a 2B... Should be playing a different position and I penalize him for it. 7. Baez - I'm projecting him up because I think he is going to be a monster. I think he will display himself in 2017. 8. Kinsler - Dropping Kinsler down to this spot is rough but I like the other 5 guys better. 9. Odor - He still has some proving to do but he could climb this list quickly. 11. Kipnis - After Odor there is a drop off so I'm making Kipnis 11 instead of 10. 12. Pedroia 13. LeMahieu - I know DJ probably deserves better and I'm not trying to knock him as a player but... I think he belongs in this Kipnis... Pedroia Group. That's my Top 10 Now back to the what is Dozier and DeLeon worth Discussion.
  21. OK.. I apologize for using his specific example when trying to make a much broader point.
  22. A. I didn't bring the Angels into the discussion. B. What evidence am I ignoring?
  23. The landscape will surely change.
