  1. The Angels don't need Span at all. Other teams could use Span. Id like to see Trumbo on the Twins. Span won't bring him here tho. Capps is about the only player the Angels would be interested in and he wont be enough to bring in Trumbo because they don't need him. The Angels are tossing aside Abreu cuz they are stacked. The Angels basically need almost nothing except to have their current lineup start playing baseball.
  2. Couple of things. It's not saying anyone can do it but there is a reason catchers transition to 3b well. The positions are more similar then you'd thnk. They have to posess similar talents. It's a matter of reps. Personally I don't subscribe to the theory that a 3B has to be a power guy. A SS has to be a speed guy and LF has to be a water buffalo. You fit any type of player at any position. You can have a Fast 1B and a Power hitting 2B. Whatever the context of your team. this Twins team doesn't have a context. The Twins can be anything right now. True we don't have an up and comer at Catcher. We don't have him around the corner at 3B either. No position is safe to play... IF you play it right. Catcher is perhaps the most dangerous. Its ok to hang on to hope for this season but like a Presidential speech writer. You need to write a victory speech and a concession speech. Mauer at third should be part of the concession speech. Once that happens... You can live with the learning curve it's going to take.
  3. He won't come... He's trying to pick the World Series winner to join. If he would come... We don't need vets. We need youth.
  4. Bingo... The state of pitching is the scariest thing about being a Twins Fan at this moment in time. Keep throwing these guys and let's see who sticks. Don't blow this draft and move every tradable piece for more pitching. Keep your expectations low while your hope is on high.
  5. Trumbo is starting now... He isn't depth... It's the guys who are playing less because Trumbo is playing who are excess. If the Angels decide to move Trumbo. He would bring a lot more then bullpen arms. He could packaged for someone like Tulowitski. For example... I'm not saying the Rockies would move Tulo.
  6. Scott Rolen is a big dude as well with a good glove. Chipper Jones isn't short. A Rod is tall. The only reason it's crazy is experience. How do you get experience? By playing... A lost season is a good time to try it.
  7. If anyone in the Twins organization thinks Sano is "too tall" to play 3rd base. Fire that person. Plenty of successful tall 3rd sackers over the decades. Height has very little to do with it. Athleticism is what you are looking for. Joe has that. If anyone thinks The quick reaction for Joe at 3b should be an injury risk to Joe or something he can't handle. Just try reacting and blocking a 90 mph slider in the dirt and well off the plate from a squat position. Much harder task and Joe does that. If anyone thinks that his contract value is tied to playing catcher. Maybe but does it matter to the Twins and how they stand right now. You gotta get your best on the field and the hole at 3B is huge. Mauer could be an amazing defensive 3B over time. Under normal circumstances I'd say wait for next year give Joe the Winter and Grapefruit to work it out. If this season doesn't turn around, I'd say why not. Give him the job and start on the job.. It would give him some additional positional flexibility. Let Plouffe run with it a little while and if the season stays crappy and Plouffe doesnt grab it. Give Joe the 3B job at the all star break and say have at it. If it doesn't work. You will have the off season to get things back to normal. It's a dumb idea when chasing a pennant. Its a certainly possible idea when you are way out of it. Honestly it's something that should have been done a few years ago. Oh yeah... One more thing... If Joe doesn't agree to it. Tough!!! He makes enough money to deal with it.
  8. BPA is the smart thing to do with a high pick like this. However, that BPA better damn well be... Clearly... Without question the best player available if he is not one of the college arms. If the Twins take this toolsy Buxton and they wait 5 years for him to be Plouffe like. It will go down as the worst possible miss drafting into perhaps the only organizational strength at a time when they cant screw around. As opposed to drafting College pitching that could be on the roster in 2 to 3 years and fills perhaps the worst organizational hole in perhaps all MLB organizations. Bottom line if they miss with a college arm... It would be at least forgivable. Cuz they tried. Miss with Buxton and you risk a longer period of mediocre or below. Pitching is the way back kids. Weak draft or not... This is an important draft... Those scouts better be focused.
  9. It was fun... I will give you that. He pitched very well for a catcher. Seriously though, he can get by with that for an inning when the other team is laughing after every Pitch and no cares cuz the score is 16 to 1. Get players who are dialed in and a game on the line and he'd give up a lead off double and all hell would break loose. His mechanics looked like someone who didn't have any mechanics. That's why the ball was sailing on him. Could you send him to New Britain? No... he'd have to go to the very lowest of levels and work on his footwork and muscle memory. With his arm... could he have been a pitcher... Possibly... Could he now? Highly unlikely. I'll admit it was fun to watch tho..l
  10. I agree with Rosterman... We are over full with OF. Send down the Italian guy. Keep the Asian guy cuz he's rule 5. Call up Burroughs.
  11. 30whales? I've been trying to figure out where I've seen 30whales before. I remember now... You are the former 1st basemen turned Racquetball master. lol. Ben was a 1st round reach in 2007. He was thought to be a 3rd or 4th rounder. Not only did the Twins draft him in the 1st round (i'm glad they did) but they signed him for one of the lowest 1st round signing bonuses in a decade or so. Don't remember the number but it was well short of a million. Maybe $750,000?
  12. Be careful typing "Count" with auto correct. I was once texted the question "can you give me a count on how many taco shells are left". I texted back... Just one... That is your count. The Auto correct blew it and gave it a whole new meaning. My mother in law wasnt sure how to respond back. She just bought some more.
  13. Plouffe hit that one to Beloit. Plouffe and Beloit are both sounds made by dropping a nickel in the toilet. I love that joke... Gonna keep typing it til someone says... LMAO.
  14. Honestly I don't know a lot about the players. Baseball outside of MLB doesn't get enough press to get a good gauge on who the best is. Hell... Even seasoned scouts struggle at the task. With the #2 pick... They can go BPA but that BPA better be leaps and bounds better then the top college arm available cuz we have an extroidanary need for frontline pitching at the upper levels. We can complain about not having a #1 or #2 starter. Well this should be the chance to get one for down the line. So if it was me... I'd take Zimmer. From what I've read and not seen. He sounds the most exciting. I pray the draft team is focused and nails this draft... It's important.
  15. Gotta agree. Smooth fielder... Nice arm... Calm pro at bats. He can stay.
  16. I do not want to see Butera in a Twins uniform and I want to see his name on the lineup card tomorrow.
  17. Yes because the lead was gained before the next pitcher threw a pitch
  18. I noticed her as well... I forget to watch the game at times.
  19. It's a Minnesota Sports tradition... If they pick 6th in the draft... It will be a 5 person Draft. If they draft 3rd... It will be a two person draft. If they get the number #1 Pick... It will be the worst draft class in the 2,000 year history of sports drafts. WIth that said... Let's get that #1 Pick baby... Some of you may not see that as winning... But it's a win. I'll display the badge proudly.
  20. When I watch him pitch. It's like watching a High School pitcher. The Catcher can set a target but he has to move his glove somewhere else to catch it. There isn't much sense in calling for an inside or outside location. Moving it around to set up the hitter isn't a club in his bag. You might as well set the target dead center. Let him try to throw it dead center. Chances are that he won't hit the target dead center and he will randomly hit corners by accident. Is it possible with Liriano... the safest method to avoid grooving one is to actually try grooving one? Other than that... I'm out of ideas.
  21. Don't pretend you like him now. It's too late for that. Just kidding. He is a singles hitter... no one is disputing that or at least should dispute that. North was just saying how ah-boot that triple eh!
  22. Liriano cant hit his spots. It's a serious mechanical, mental and control issue with him. I'm half serious when I say that he should just try to throw the ball down the middle. I bet he'd nail more corners that way.
  23. Hey North... Just checking... Is it ok if I make fun of Canadiens. If it is... I'll start with those 55 yards lines... If not... It s Ok... I'll just go back to Montana and Iowa jokes.
  24. A big EH on the end of that... High five Canadien Neighbor. Reaching on that error was speed related rushing as well. I put the stop watch on him for triple. Home to 3b in 1.3 seconds. I used the same stop watch to time my trip from Grand Forks to Winnipeg. 28 minutes including a stop at the border and a search of my car. They weren't suspicious of anything. They just couldn't believe it was actually a functioning car.
  25. I don't think Ben solves our Offense problems. Like I said... I can be as wrong as the next guy. I said I was comfortable with the original pre spring training projected lineup with Ben in LF. Despite my comfortableness with the lineup pre April... It didn't come to play in April and it had nothing to do with Ben being the 4th OF or in Rochester. I remember the 2011 Tosoni, Tolbert, Repko attack. For that reason I was looking forward to full year of Ben on the base paths and defense wall climbing. I watched 2011 and Ben was the only reason I kept watching. It was a downyear and I feel Ben was an up in the face of it. All in all... You could be right but I personally don't think Ben lost his 2012 LF job based on his play in Spring. He was typical Ben in The Grapefruit. Morneau not playing 1B was the first domino that eventually fell on Ben. The headlines ran side by side. Willingham to LF and Morneau to DH. Where is Doumit going to play? Again I can be as wrong as the next guy but I'm pretty sure that Willingham didn't refuse to play RF. He spent the majority of spring in RF and held his own. Doumit needed a spot cuz Morneau took his. I also think Parmelee took Butera or Towles out and that really moved Doumit away from DH and if Morneau is going to not play first. Well... That becomes Parmelee. When the music stopped. Ben didn't have a chair. I felt bad for the kid... I'm really pulling for him. I still think LF should be his.
