  1. I'll be primarily interested in how the rotation is handled this year. No more plus sixers starting games please... How do they utilize the options? If someone is struggling how are they handled?
  2. lol... Maybe not alone... But it can feel like Butch and Sundance at the end of the movie.
  3. At least 95% of them. He's a good soul with an opinion. His biggest problem is his sense of pride over Alex Trebec.
  4. I'm nervous about any player acquired in a trade. If there is a player that you shouldn't be nervous about... Teams tend to not trade them. They hang on to them with all their might.
  5. Jim... I understand what you are saying and I don't necessarily disagree with you. A good defensive catcher has value. To me it's a question of how many roster spots you take up using 3 catchers.
  6. Fundamentals can be quite helpful. Get to the ball quick and get it in... The Runner ain't going anywhere. The place where Revere will get burned is the routine flyball that he settles under. Runner tagging... Those are the situations where your arm is on an island. Your feet or fundamentals won't help you too much in that situation. You either got the hose to nail him or you don't. Ben don't.
  7. It's looking like Gardy might actually be considering putting Mauer in the 2 hole. I really hope so... Especially with the projected starting lineup. We have a lot of RBI potential bats in this lineup. Putting Dozier in the 2 and Parmelee in the 8 doesn't make sense to me because every projection I've ever read says that Parmelee is a better hitter than Dozier. Moving Mauer up one spot... At the very least... Will give Mauer theoretically more at-bats and will allow all of our better hitters to move up one spot and theoreticallly give all of our best hitters more at bats. Plus a nice patient hitter who works the count is what you want following a lead off guy who can run like Hicks. I think we can all agree that Mauer works the count. We have plenty of choices for the 3 hole... We have very few choices for the 2 hole.
  8. It may have happened... I didn't see it... I'm pretty sure it isn't typical. Something didn't go right. The Runner didn't score from 2nd because his arm is weak. (yes... I believe Ben's Arm is sub-par). One reason I'm pretty sure about this (without actually seeing the play). With a runner tagging on 2nd and a ball hit to the OF'er in the air... The Outfielder isn't throwing home. Ben had to make a bad throw to the cut that may not be an actual error but a fundemental error and any outfielder is capable of that and it has little to do with arm strength. Anyway, Ben's a ghost now... I wish him well in Philly... Loved watching him to do his thing in Minnesota. Now that he's gone... I'm not sure which player I'm going to have to work overtime defending this year. BTW... Check out the held percentages... Ben was above league average for RF and CF. Runners were not taking the extra base on him. His arm was sub-par but the effect of that arm is way overblown.
  9. When exactly did a runner tag from 2nd and score on Ben? If it did happen... Did it happen without error? Where did Ben catch the ball? What direction was his momentum? What role did the cut off man play in this odd rare occurrence? Was the cut off man hit cleanly? Exactly how fast was the runner who scored? As for the extra base guarantee... Will held percentage back up that theory?
  10. It's loud speculation though... If you want to know what GM's think of someone... Once they hit FA... How much they pay him is a fairly accurate indicator of value. Marcum has decent numbers but what other teams are willing to pay him isnt as decent a number... At that point I don't need to read much speculation to know that not everything is right with Marcum.
  11. I watched Correia pitch last night... He only struck out one but he did produce a bunch of charity hop grounders. If anyone got the impression that the Red Sox were hitting darts around the park that just happened to be caught... I would disagree. I won't complain about Correia until he actually gives me reason to... That time hasn't come yet.
  12. Plus... Scioscia is aggressive on the bases... I think Scioscia hands out the green light more often than Hal Jordan.
  13. On Joe Benson... People say things they shouldnt say and re-act to things incorrectly all the time. There is no reason to think that Baseball players are immune to this. I'm not too worried about it. If Joe Benson did actually request a trade... OK... But the Twins would be wise to hold on to him until he produces decent numbers in Rochester before trying to accomodate the request. Any trade at this point would be selling at the low.
  14. I've admitted that I'm disapointed that the Twins didn't sign one of the upper tier starters this off season... But on the issue of Middle Infield... Yeah it's a hole but seriously who was available as a free agent to fill that hole. When I say... Fill that hole... Someone who is significantly better. It is very debateable if Stephen Drew is an upgrade at SS at 9 Million and coming off a .223 year... The guy is already on the DL with Boston. Gonzalez, Cedeno, Izturis and Bartlett are nothing special. At 2B... Scutaro and Keppinger had decent years last year but it's not like these guys have been consistent superstars during their careers. Kelly Johnson... I'd pass. I understand the want and need for upgrade in the middle infield. I just have a hard time seeing the FA upgrades that were available for MI. I suppose we could have traded for someone... But, those chips were spent on Young Pitching and in my opinion... Better spent that way. As for SP... I can't defend it... Would have loved for the Twins to have landed a Peavy or something.
  15. With Perez I wouldn't put him above Mauer... Posey might be the only catcher I'd place in front of Mauer in MLB and that isn't a slam dunk. No denying Santana's Power and that has value but Santana just doesn't hit for high enough average. I'd go Perez over Santana for that reason. With Hosmer I'd put him over Swisher... Based on last year I wouldn't... I just think that these two players will cross past each other in opposite directions... Hosmer up... Swisher down. As for the White Sox... I'd put all of them at the 5 spot in every catagory. I just hate the White Sox with a passion and the curse I'm placing on them is powerful stuff. It's a new formula straight from Jamaica... The Sox don't stand a chance.
  16. I agree with the majority of the rankings but I think Seth was too hard on some Royals. I would move up Perez one notch. He's looking like Mauer Jr thus Far. No way do I rank Hosmer at the Bottom. I know he struggled last year but I think he rebounds big this year. At least I hope so because I got him on my fantasy team. Escobar at SS for the Royals... Should be moved up to #2 behind only Cabrera. Jeez, it sounds like I've become this Royals backer or something.
  17. Something tells me that the Twins won't trade Justin if he has a good year. Unless of course... they are blown away with an offer. If he has a good year... He will at least be offered the 13 Million qualifier. After that it's up to Justin. Yes... we have young talent but it shouldn't be a case of this guy is a starter and this guy is a bench guy. All baseball teams need depth and a creative manager can get players in the lineup and if we have Parmelee and Morneau and Arcia and Willingham and Doumit and Mauer all doing well. Good for us. There will be room for all of them in 2014. It would be a good problem to have. Depth would be awesome. If Morneau has another injury riddled or a plain ole so-so year and the Twins are not in contention. Then you may see him dumped in a trade for someone of marginal value or he will simply not be offered 13 Million and he becomes a free agent. In my opinion... 3 things have to happen for Justin to be moved. 1. The Twins are out of contention in July. 2. Justin is healthy and raking. 3. A contending club is desperate for a big bat 1B and willing to part with a high level prospect. I think #3 will be the biggest hurdle.
  18. I feel OK about the roster... just ok... The teams success depends on pitching. We have the offense to compete... If the pitching can be at least average... We got some bats who can take it from there. I'm not OK with the quality of arms but I am OK with the quantity of them. In terms of pitching... I will be watching one thing primarily. If a pitcher is struggling... Do they let him work through the struggles on a major league mound or do they replace them. I don't know what the correct answer is but if a pitcher is allowed to toe the rubber repeatedly with an ERA plus 5... The Quantity of arms isn't doing us any good. The Key is... How does Gardenhire and Ryan handle the struggling pitcher this year because you know someone is going to struggle... Just average pitching will go a long way for us.
  19. Romero has turned into a Kazmir... May have to wait a few years for him to come back like Kazmir this year. Romero is struggling with a capital STR.
  20. Thats right... I knew that... however... If the Cards had the 17th pick... They'd find something.
  21. Either is fine... Opening day is getting close and baseball is the greatest game ever.
  22. 1.The Dodgers will not run away with the NL West. I'll say they won't even make the playoffs. 2. The Now 5 team NL Central could be interesting and I'm certain that the Cards will be somewhere in the mix. 3. The Braves will win the AL East with pitching... Not Hitting. 4. Whoever wins the AL West will have the worst record of all the division winners. 5. The Yankees will fall hard and ESPN will have experts on every day to explain the collapse. Joe Girardi will be looking for work next year. 6. Someone... Maybe the Royals will push the Tigers hard in the AL Central... The Tigers won't runaway with it. 7. Some team that everyone thought was crap... Will make the playoffs. 8. Trout will not experience the dreaded sophomore slump. 9. Ron Gardenhire will reach 1,000 wins this year. 10. I'll nail at least two of these predictions.
  23. A 17th pick overall in the hands of the Cardinals is seemingly better than a 17th pick in the hands of everyone else. I have nothing to back this up but I believe the Cards have drafted better than most everyone.
  24. I think all ballplayers should report to the park and check to see if they are in the lineup. That way we don't have two players running out to SS by mistake.
  25. I'm hoping it isn't a platoon... I hope it's simply the ability to move around mix and match. Looks like the proverbial "Good Problem to Have" We didn't have that good problem last year. Let's have a roster of 25 and utilitze all 25.
