    Mauer has been significantly less awful than he was last year, but Bremer's reference to his getting the benefit of the doubt with respect to the strike zone made me wonder not only how much longer that may be the case, but how much it's still really true even now.

    I really like Coomer, if for no other reason than that he really came into his own as a Twins icon after his playing days were over. But when I see what he looked like back then, it still makes me think that he must have at least occasionally had a hell of a time convincing a non-fan here or there that he was a major league baseball player.

    Santana's strike zone discipline is slowly but surely improving. He used to run up into the stands to swing at balls out of the zone, but now he stays on the field at least. So that's progress.

    Beat me to it, but I'll add that neither the possibility of an afternoon of right-handed Mauer or crazy 70charger is necessarily a bad thing either.

    Dozier's season had gradually gone from worrisome to excellent, but with the rest of the team settling back into its 90 loss form, he reminds me more and more of the mid-90's Knoblauch, a perennial All Star whose best years were wasted while surrounded by a collection of stiffs and kids.

    I thought he'd be called out too, but it had more to do with general pessimism about the Twins and about Plouffe specifically than any real certainty it was the correct call. Apparently the tag and the off-the-bag part of the slide didn't coincide.
