  1. Agreed, but that didn't prevent it from being exciting, and with some excellent baseball to balance the fumbles and weirdness. Almora's heads-up tag and subsequent score as pinch runner, Lester and Ross helping the team win after fumbling the lead, the Indians absolutely refusing to roll over after leading 3-1 in the series and then getting behind early tonight. It wasn't Twins/Braves Game 7, but it had its moments. And overall, it was a good series. Two franchises that desperately needed to return to postseason relevance did so in a big way. and Game 6 beat MNF in the ratings battle despite the hand-wringing over a World Series of two teams from 'flyover country'.
  2. I'm happy for them. They were my adopted MLB team for a summer during the Age of Caray. And anyway, after 94 losses a year for over half a decade, is there a single Twins fan left with the energy to protest an attaboy for any good team, let alone one that overcame a century-long jinx? Edit: Excepting any fan with dual allegiance, like maybe for a team from the South Side.
  3. Congratulations, Cubbies! Terrific series. Late offense from the Cubs saved Maddon a lifetime of questions and grief about pulling Hendricks in the fifth after 63 pitches with one runner on.
  4. The Minnesota Twins have not produced a single season with a positive run differential since their inaugural one in Target Field, despite having greater revenue there than at any other time since their inception. They just set the franchise record for losses in a season, accruing nine more than the next-worst team in the majors. Calling criticism of their failures a "rant" is like calling a raised hand at a city council meeting an "outburst".
  5. Brian Duensing just pitched in a late/close situation in a postseason game. http://www.aveleyman.com/Gallery/ActorsA/348-17129.gif "Oh, my Holy God..." Unless the Twins' minor league system has been vastly overrated the past few years, it would seem that there's been an ongoing failure to turn talented minor league players into productive major league players, especially the pitchers. The development side deserves some blame, because while Twins prospects have generally not been rushed, they often appear rougher around the edges with respect to fundamentals than rookies should. That said, it's hard to see how the Twins could put together such a terrible season without there being serious problems with the way the staff prepares and utilizes its young players, as well as veterans like Duensing too. I admire Molitor the player and person, I like his staff, and I don't think they were incompetent. But I don't know how a franchise that has under-performed so badly for so long can bring in a new guy from outside to run baseball operations, and then give him an eraser instead of a clean whiteboard to draw up 2017 and beyond.
  6. In case you missed it, Parker Hageman posted this elsewhere in TD, so I'm hoping it's ok to link to it here, because it's hilarious and sad, but mostly hilarious...
  7. Stat track says Buxton's inside-the-parker was the fastest home to home time since they started recording it.
  8. As long as they don't ask you to do the clapping too...
  9. Winner. I get to declare a winner if I started the thread, right? Either way, winner. Because Bill Murray, and optimism.
  10. My bad. First crack at a game thread. I'll work on it in the offseason.
  11. This is the end, Twins Daily friend This is the end, my game thread friend, the end Of T.R.'s bullpen plans, the end Of Twins fans in the stands, the end No sac bunts or Pat Light, the end I'll never look in Albers' beady eyes, again...
  12. C'mon, Miggy, let's get on base! If you don't reach, Kurt Suzuki can't pinch run in his last game as a Twin! Edit: W00t! Single through the hole! Where's Kurt? Pinch run? Pinch hit? Pinch loaf? Can't believe Molitor is letting him sit!
  13. Less than an inning left in the season. C'mon, game thread, gut it out! http://img.bleacherreport.net/img/images/photos/003/248/440/e3dcf7da0e2dfcb57f2289144fc120f4_crop_exact.jpg?w=1280&h=720&q=75
  14. The Twins bullpen elected to forego the customary four-run 8th in deference to your plans for the afternoon.
  15. Ouch. Defending NFC champions Carolina now 1-3 after being torched 48-33 by Atlanta. Not a stellar start to a title defense.
  16. I'm not even sure that word would cover it for me. But hey, Wimmers suddenly remembers he's a first round pick and escapes the inning. Two to go...
  17. It's right up there with burning a perfectly good doughnut in the name of science.
  18. Anything short of swearing off baseball for good qualifies as healthy coping skills after a season like this. And even if you didn't get an automatic free pass, it's not really the sort of place where anyone is in a position to point fingers... http://31.media.tumblr.com/1e8cadf256dffd4c4b13ca84208a14be/tumblr_miloaluqYF1rwuk4ko1_500.gif
  19. Good call. Just like the Polar Bear Plunge. You'll acclimate in no time. http://static.news-gazette.com/sites/all/files/imagecache/photogallery_full/images/2014/03/01/0302_loca_1__polar_plunge.jpg
  20. Berrios done, with only one earned run and a chance for the win. Good enough. Ok, bullpen, get your cow chips together and finish this thing.
  21. If you go next week, you can help put up the Christmas lights on the cactus and run the front yard through its annual trip to the rock polisher! Bring some really good work gloves... http://www.cactuslovers.com/tucson-christmas2.jpg
  22. Hey, you are correct! But luckily for me and my irrational anger, Teixeira hit the grounder that started the play. So... http://davenaves.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/doc-holiday-i-hate-him.jpg
  23. The fifth inning wall again for Berrios... Bear down, Berrios! <clap clap clapclaplclap> Bear down, Berrios! <clap clap clapclaplclap> Everybody! Do it! NOW! Bear down, Berrios! <clap clap clapclaplclap> Edit: Berrios gets out of the jam and qualifies for the win. Congratulations, Game Thread, you're still my agent of Quan. http://www.filmsite.org/screens/jerrymaguire2.jpg
