  1. It was discussed briefly on the broadcast tonight. Made it sound like Parmalee might get some right-field time and that for the short-term Morneau at first wasn't a full-fledged shift yet. I would imagine this will become a bigger issue down the road, but not quite yet.
  2. I'd start with reading the article you're commenting on. Also wonder if you've ever considered the possibility that the 2011 Twins were OVER budget and this year is simply more in line with where they "should" be? If you go over budget in a year you start out thinking you have a window to win and get "rewarded" with 99 losses, is staying over budget in a year where expectations are lower really the move?
  3. I read the 94.1 number somewhere else, but it included the caveat that it was only counting the opening day 25-man roster which took Marquis and Baker out of the total. That difference does show up fairly large in the % decrease and would vault them over the small difference behind the White Sox.
  4. And not because Morneau was DH'ing every day?
  5. Seems clear to me that he was talking about his swing and not his physical condition.
  6. Yeah...that wasn't it.
  7. One of the more ridiculous common sentiments/accusations expressed here (and elsewhere).
  8. Something tells me that when you're in traffic on the freeway, you might be the guy that keeps switching to the faster lane...only to find you want to switch back once you've gotten over there.
  9. And if I made the post above, I'd be embarrassed.
  10. Does it feel like they fail almost twice as often as they succeed? Inconsitent like that?
  11. Thankfully, it's 2012, nearly everything that anyone does on a major league baseball field is recorded and put right out there in public. No need to wonder...about that. I would wonder what motivation there would be to measure something like that in cases "besides the homers."
  12. Interesting. That's more or less the same area I was referring to. The 6:00 end time was how it was in '10, but I thought they'd plugged up all the holes last year. I must have missed a little pocket back there on the other side of Washington (I've almost always parked on the southwest side of it).
  13. My guess would be even if it goes "Swarzak good; Hendriks bad" that the result will still be Swarzak back to 'pen and a reliever sent down. I expected that to be the case before the Baker situation became more clear, and I don't think one start for Hendriks (or two for Swarzak) will change that plan. Maybe if the good/bad levels are quite extreme it would have larger effect.
  14. For future reference, if you're in the room where you can use the remote and feel the bed...having the room keys locked inside the room isn't really much of a problem.
  15. I mentioned in another thread, but I think it's worth a repeat. I poked around with some (admittedly not super deep) research this morning and everything I saw is that Baker's injury was diagnosed (and treated) correctly. (With "correctly" meaning as people with expertise typically would do to get the desired result.)
  16. One could probably count them. Of course, he would then want to do the same for quite a few others to see if that number was much different than it was for other pitchers for that original number to mean anything.
  17. Agreed! And I felt the same way about someone trumpeting a hole in the wall bar like Cuzzy's on the other! But...in the interest of community... Year 1, I parked along Washington to the north of the ballpark. The meters weren't in effect during most games. It was free, nobody seemed to know or realize how good and close it was, and life was great. At the start of Year 2, Washington was now metered with the new "pay box" meters, but the side streets in the same area were not. Still free, still close, still quite available all the time...at least through the first month or so. Eventually they finished the metering project and now all of those are in effect during games. I still park there, though, usually off Washington on a side street closer to the ballpark actually. I forget exactly what it costs, but it's still cheaper than a ramp (like $5 or so will usually get you to 10:00 when it becomes free), it's really a short walk, and yet it's not that crowded or busy that direction because for some reason people still haven't "found" that area. Slight disclaimer, I had a free parking pass somewhere else for the one game I've been to this year, so I don't know if it is or will continue to be as low-traffic and inexpensive this year.
  18. What I've read today on Baker's injury makes me think that he was neither misdiagnosed nor mistreated. The injury he had is typically treated successfully with rest and only in some cases after that hasn't worked is surgery necessary. And to be clear, because it's on the intergoogle highway doesn't make it so, but that's what I found out there this morning. I should stay at a Holiday Inn Express and see if I gain any better insight from that.
  19. See why I hate "seems like" now!?! My memory was that when Strasburg came back he pitched very limited amount to start. It was just over a year, and they did limit him a little since it was the end of last year, but he did come back pretty strong as far as results. I just scanned a few sites and the most common thing I saw for recovery was "12 to 18 months." At least one (webmd is the one I can recall for sure) said recovery was "about a year" but that full performance recovery could take up to two years. The most noteworthy thing I read was that before doing the surgery on Tommy John, the pioneering doctor estimated the chance for success at...1 in 100!
  20. Probably accurate but incomplete. "Before, during, and..." added to the beginning would fix that up!
  21. I could probably find it, but likely someone here could answer quickly off the top of their head. I know I've known at some point, but somehow I've forgotten...from which side is it that Hicks has struggled to hit?
  22. Classy AND insightful.
  23. Already looked at them. In 2010, the attendance increased noticeably and the average attendance by month is increasing from April to August, with a tiny fall off in September. It's not as pronounced in 2011, but the average attendance by month is once again monotonically increasing until the September fall off. Last night's attendance was so far below the previous low that it's really quite striking, so we agree there. But the fact of increasing attendance as we get toward summer has been the "rule" (two prior seasons is obviously not a huge set of data).
  24. Can you imagine how heads would be exploding if Capps had gotten off to the start that Nathan has? Yikes.
  25. Oh for sure. HE is obviously Willinghammer. What he hits would be the Willinghomer.
