  1. Sounds like I made a poor decision not bidding on his PAW Patrol jersey last spring.
  2. I had to do a double-take .... Thought it was young A-Rod photoshopped into a Twins uni
  3. I don't "get" this ... But, I also didn't "get" Dennis Miller on Monday Night Football.
  4. Yeah, seven pages of wasted discussion. Maybe if it would have gone to eight pages .... Damn it!!!
  5. With Castro aging/on the comeback trail and Garver on the back end of a concussion scare, maybe it would be in the best interest of both to have Astudillo catch once a week and twice on weeks with no off days. Maybe at least try it early in the season and then see where the top two catchers are at after getting into the rigors of a baseball season. Astudillo obviously brings some other flexibility, so his role could change over the course of the season. He also has options. Of course, this would likely regrettably come at the expense of Tyler Austin, who I'd like to see given more of a chance.
  6. I'm not a pitching guru or anything, but I did happen to catch a couple Enlow starts in CR last year. I'd say he needs to just keep working on command and control. Of course, that is probably true for 99.9% of the pitchers out there (I'll leave .1% open for Maddux & Co.). It especially applies to all 19 yo pitchers though. Anyway, the first time I watched him, he threw quite a few pitches in just a couple of innings and then they went to the pen. Maybe this was due to one of those muscle pull injuries. The second time I saw him, he was much better and went deeper into the game. He still walked a couple, plunked a couple and had some backstop balls in there. But, he also was hitting 94 at times, didn't give up many hits and got some Ks. I agree with the poster above that the possible FSL rotation full of 20-21 yo pitchers is nice to see.
  7. How did Ervin Santana spend 286 days on the DL in a single season?
  8. Baddoo has big league leadoff hitter written all over him. Hope he stays healthy and keeps making the adjustments required at each step. FSL will be a great challenge.
  9. Good piece of research ... Let's hope something similar happens with Perez
  10. Last year, it was the "5th" guy that had closer to 10 starts and then there were 8 guys who got between 2 and 5 starts (not counting Moya's openers) .... There is a lot at play here with the Perez signing Only Berrios and now Perez under control for next season Not counting chickens with Pineda None of the prospects looked liked they were close to ready for a full season workload ... Romero was the closest, but articles are still being written about his need to develop his secondary offerings De Jong and Slegers have both been DFA'd, so the pile of guys needing a look is smaller. Last year seven starts were given to the less than healthy combo of Hughes/Santana .... None of those types are in the mix this season ... Well, unless that bad luck kitty crosses Pineda again .... Then they will have come full circle and will need someone like Perez Last but not least, I doubt Baldelli will be required to keep Perez in the rotation if he is being outpitched by say Stewart or Gonsalves .... On the surface, 4 mill for a lefty long man seems to be an overpay, but if your paying Stewart 600K as the 5th guy, it all evens out.
  11. Really hope Miranda can stick at 3rd ... That position is pretty weak up and down the system .... Was hopeful on Bechtold going into last season, but he really disappointed with the bat ... He's looking like a 23 yo repeating Low-A Hope Miranda can really break out, finish the season in Pensacola with Lewis and Kirilloff (if they are still there) and give the hot corner a better looking future.
  12. Tyler Wells must have been left out of the top 20 to generate discussion. Arraez should be in there too. On another note ... If only Bailey Ober could stay healthy, he'd be at least in the HM section. Injuries suck.
  13. I'm not sure if this spring is the time, but Berrios is the player that I want to stay a Twin more than any other right now. He's shown he can be dominate, and he's just starting to mature. As the seasons accumulate, the reoccurring issues with nerves, self-inflicted pressure and wide eyes on the big stage will become non-issues. He'll have been-there-done-that more and more. What I don't think will go away is his desire to compete and commitment to be the best he can be? His routines for conditioning are well-documented. He's less of an injury risk. Even if he did sustain and injury, I'm certain he would be well-equipped for rehab, and he would just set another goal of coming back stronger than he went out (or something along those lines). Outside of being a great athlete and player, my impression is that he is also a great person. The Twins would be well-advised to have him as one of the major faces of this franchise. He'd be a good role model as well for teaching youth about commitment, conditioning and setting goals. I'd overpay. Sign him up!!! EDIT: Also, this Kyle Freeland extension exercise piece is a good read to get a ballpark on numbers. I don't think Berrios is at the same level yet, but it's at least food for thought on a comp.
  14. In all fairness, if ST 2018 was the point at which a plan that made sense to Stewart and caused him to "buy in", then perhaps the work the new FO did over the course of their first year started paying off. Sure, it would have been nice to get that input after that first short off-season, but it's still a much shorter timeframe than the first four years of apparent lack of direction.
  15. I doubt Polanco sees Gordon in the rearview mirror .... He'd have to get hurt or play pretty horribly for that to even enter the conversation right now .... I remember Thad Levine talking about how Gordon's bat was close, but he still had a ways to go with the glove last year. If the bat is "close" with a .544 OPS at AAA, I'd hate to see where the glove is. If I remember correctly, there were some posters who watched Gordon live last year and echoed Levine's thoughts on his defense. I'm looking forward to a full productive year from Polanco. He can be an asset to this team.
  16. Lower the bar and dreams come true!!! This is how we baseball!!
  17. That's exciting, but it hardly spells the end of free agency or the early trade season ... at least not with the current MO of the league.
  18. It's January 23. Ownership has already added $31 mill to 2019 in new players. That's more than double what had been added by this time last season. Lynn, Odorizzi and Morrison came much later. $60+ mill just came off the books. Can they at least have the full off-season to show commitment? The whole process is running slowly, just like last season (and it probably will until the CBA expires).
  19. This!! Kirilloff, Larnach, Maciel, Celestino, Wade, Baddoo .... That's the top end of just the outfield prospects .... They aren't all going to roam at Target Field ... Don't gut the system, but there is definitely wiggle room.
  20. And for what it's worth ... Boston only had one north of 190 IP
  21. The Twin acquired Odorizzi, Lynn and Morrison after mid-February last year, so I'm not sure we can look at the current $100 million number as anything more than a current number. The Perez deal may make it seem like starting pitching isn't in the works for further moves, but we don't know the full structure of that deal yet. If someone has info on that, please post. They haven't announced the DFA candidate yet, so it doesn't seem finalized. I view Perez as being somewhere on the "if-Pineda-doesn't-come-back-well" depth chart, being given a chance to win that fifth spot and otherwise working as long man or second lefty in bull-pen. Is anyone penciling anyone other than Gibson, Berrios and Odorizzi in for 30 starts? I'm not. I doubt Falvine is. They're still shopping, IMO. I'm quietly still hoping that Marwin Gonzalez stays available deep into the off-season. Perhaps he could be the Morrison/anti-Morrison signing that we didn't expect. It would be great to have him on the team and then tell guys like Sano, Buxton, Kepler and even Polanco (on the defensive side) "give me a reason to start Marwin somewhere other than the spot that your supposed to occupy as a starter."
