  1. Harper: Takes forever to decide, turns half his suitors off, signs with Philly for 30M AAV. Turns down offers from the Yankees and Cubs for slightly less to get on the youth train before it takes off in Philly. Machado: Doesn't get the big deal he was hoping for, postpones his FA one more year in hopes of scoring that mega contract. Machado signs with Cleveland or the Dodgers (can't decide yet) on a 1 year deal for about 40M AAV. Kimbrel: Stays put. Enough said. Corbin: Gets overpaid to be a replacement for Morton/McCullers/Kuechel in Houston, they lock him up for 5-6 years at around 24M AAV. Kuechel: Underwhelming offers force him to also take a lower deal, signs with Colorado on a 2 year deal for 20M AAV.
  2. I would be fine bringing him back on a 1-2 year deal as a spot starter/utility guy, assuming they can't get Escobar back. Seems like a good guy who won't lose you games when he has to play, and when they replace him in the lineup he should have trade value at that time. Let him hold down the fort at 2B if you can't get anyone else to take the job this offseason.
  3. Anyone else think they should be pestering the Houston FO today trying to talk them into taking Dozier? Altuve on the DL and Correa with no return in sight, and they're in the middle of trying to win the division. Seattle just acquired some pieces too... might not be a bad spot.
  4. I like how he looks but eventually I think he'll regress back to the mean. If someone's left without a dance partner at the last minute I think someone panics and overpays drastically for Gibson, and I'd rather watch him roll back down the hill on a different team. I hope I'm wrong, but that's how I see it.
  5. No reason that you can't do a little of both. Sell Dozier and Lynn. Field offers on Gibson and Rodney. Plan to QO Escobar after the year and maybe sign him for a few years in a utility role if he'll take that. By all accounts, Sano looks like he's likely to be back up sometime in August, he can play 3B which can move Escobar to 2B or SS. Play to win the games while trading away guys that aren't likely to return next year. Call it a half-sell if you will, but I also don't find value in squeaking into the playoffs to be demolished by Houston in 3 games. If this team does turn it around in August again, the only trade-deadline guy who figures to be a significant factor in that would be Dozier, and I personally think you have to get something for him while you can.
  6. 1 FA/Trade makes it crazy unrealistic, but a couple of notes: I think Royce might not be up here in 2020, but he'll at the very least be banging on the door. They seem content to let him progress slowly, I wouldn't be surprised if he stays a little too long in AA and AAA. I think Larnach has more potential to end up at DH than Mauer in 2020, Mauer should be long gone by then. He's a college bat that in theory should move through the system quickly and be up for the 2020 season if he's as good as he has been so far. Fun thought, I'm really excited about the system we have now and eager to add to it in the next week!
  7. I thought Hand was already traded? If we could get Bird in the Hand that would be great though.
  8. Sounds good to me. I think it would go through. Maybe see if the Twins can get Hicks after the mess he's in with Norris right now... (/s)
