Does anyone know what percentage of the guys drafted in rounds 30+ even show up in the minors? I have to believe a number of these guys just begin moving on with their life? (Had an uncle and co-worker who were drafted but didn't go any further, but that would have been many years ago)
The problem with this is it doesn't account for signability. After the first few picks, it may not be selecting the best player so much as selecting the best player that fits into your draft strategy / budget.
We know he said he was offered. What the extent was we don't know. If he was asked would you take 6.5M does that constitute as an offer? I could have been the Twins doing due diligence on the top X players to see what each would sign for. The Twins are not going to come out and say what actually happened.
I just struggle to believe that Boras would do that. While he is always looking out for his players, it would be a pretty big hit to him to essentially cause the Twins to never deal with him again as they wouldn't be able to trust anything he says.
Maybe the plan is to go over slot deeper in the draft to help restock the farm system? So far, it certainly seems like an odd strategy... I am going to give the new front office the benefit of the doubt because I want the Twins to be better, but I am at a bit of a loss on tonight
Maybe this is all smoke screen to get Greene to drop his price a bit? Could be selling that it is worth dropping your price a bit to be a historical first pick?
Statistically, he may be the best at both. I think all of them are a bit of a crap shoot, and I haven't seen any of them pitch. Given it's year one of the new crew, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt (there is a one year limit on this )
