The job of the F.O. is to make the team better, just not at the expense of long term (Mauer,Hughes,Nolasco) This years signings seem to make the team better, if just slightly, but improvement is improvement. We just don't need so-so signings clogging the up the 25 man roster. So far I think we're setup up good for next years freeing up of $$$ I still want to know why Enns is on this 40 man roster while we loss some talented pitchers. Enns is not a top Prospect, is 26 years old and doesn't even show up on any charts as a chance of making the Bigs??? We could have kept Chargois or Burdi.

Article: Three-Bagger: DH, Dozier And Destiny
BJames replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The first AAA spring training game start March 14. I don't see much of a reason to cut guys till the 12th. So I think we'll see some of the young pitchers for another week. So far I think Littell, Romero and Slegers look good. Gonsalves doesn't look like he throws hard enough to be effective in the Bigs.- 26 replies

On the down side, we are light a RH batter and we have a bunch of 3-4-5 type starters and OK relief. On the Bright side, the Offence was good last year and should be better and we have some Bright young starters and relief pitchers at AAA. In fact the starters at AAA could be better then the Bigs (minus Barrios)

Grossman, Was second on the team in BB's and last on the team in SLG. Very odd stats. Take away half those walks and you have a weak hitter. Grossman's time with the Twins might be short lived.- 75 replies

We didn't have to many relief pitchers till the F.O. signed three new guys. This might end up being short sided as Rodney could be gone at any time and Reed and Duke don't seem like more than a one year solution. Long term we might need some of those guys. Unless we've become a team that buys Free Agents every year.- 75 replies

Article: Brian Dozier: I'll Be A Free Agent
BJames replied to John Bonnes's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Well, if the Twins didn't (don't) extend him by the end of March, yes, he'll be gone next year. I see this as good and bad. He's a solid player, but we have some good young players on the way up that cost less and can do more as far as run and hit for AVG. Will we miss him as a lead-off? not that much. -

I'd like to see the F.O. go with more of the Upside players then based on past performance. This team need to look for players that will help them in Sept and Oct. Pressly Hughes and Grossman can be replaced with better talent. But, all three will be on the opening day roster and Vargas, Busenitz,Slegers,Gonsalves,Romero will be gone or having to be compete at AAA with more prospect like Jay,Wade,Littell,Curtiss and Rooker.- 75 replies

Article: Missing Pieces? Lost Minor League Players
BJames replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I think Bard will do fine in L.A. For some reason the Twins refused to move him up quickly enough to match his age. Why he wasn't at AAA last year I don't know? As for Burdi and Shaggy, the injuries are starting to add up. -
Article: On Rushing Pitchers And Taking Lumps
BJames replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I've always been for giving young pitchers a couple of starts and send them back down. It take time to adjust to the Bigs. I'm talking about preparation, large stadiums, interviews, new teammates etc. Not to mention your pitching against the equivalent of the AAA All-star team every start. It's my belief it take 3-4 up and back to AAA before it starts to click and the comfort level come around. I'm one that believe we might be surprised with Slegers this year.- 52 replies

The real question is: what would Vargas stat look like if he got 550AB's??? It might not matter now. You take what you can, but I'm not sure this is a big upgrade. A corner outfielder that is RH and can Hit a little is what we need. Grossman is a liability.

Benintendi of the Red Sox was a Sept call-up in his second year with the sox. Also, a MVP in the SEC. I look for Rooker to be the 1B-DH next year. -

I'm ready for some Baseball. Pitchers and Catcher report tomorrow. We've got 4 young pitchers on the 40 man Plus Hughes and Duff-man to compete for the 4 & 5 spot. Use the Bats and we won't need the starters or relief! -
I know most of these young guys are a couple year out on the big contract, but I'd like to see the Twins start signing them longterm now before they become F.O.'s. I'm more of the Trade Sano type and sign someone next year with Joe's $$$$ freed up. As, far as the ruin the team comment. How did it work out when we signed Joe to the Big contract. Morneau gone, Cuddyer gone, Nathan gone, Kubel gone. Nothing was left. I might be off but that's how I remember it. We have some time, I'm looking more long term with the money.

I've always been a big advocate of using the young guys in the minors. Sure, I'd love to sign Darvish, but I don't want him to ruin the team for the next five year either, with to big a contract, leaving nothing for Berrios,Sano,Kepler,Buxton etc. With the way the schedule is early in April and the amount of young guy on the Roster, I say give them a shot. I see no problem early in the year testing some of the young guys and giving them a chance to succeed. Look at how many times Berrios went up and down. It;s time some of these guys got their feet wet. If they Suck we have Duffey and Hughes to throw the Mid innings.

Article: The 2018 Sixth-Year Minor Leaguers
BJames replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I,ve always liked Melotakis,Jones,Baxendale and Van Steensel. But, now it looks like they might all become AAA-AAAA types. I'd like to see these guys get some innings in Spring Training, but none of them were non-roster invitees. You can read the Tea leaves as far as who the Twins think might be needed this year and these guys all got skipped.- 9 replies

Article: Can The Twins Better Their Bench?
BJames replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Grossman as the 4th outfielder is the weak spot. Vargas does just fine at 1b and his power is not in question. Also, Adrianza could be DFA with Escobar on the Bench and DHing. I'd like a Vet RH Bat, outfielder, but I don't want Gomez nor do I want to pay more than 6 mil for a bench Vet.- 21 replies

Article: Do The Twins Need To Add a Right-Handed Bat?
BJames replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I'm a Vargas fan and would like to see him get 350 Ab's. As far as right handed hitter we have Grossman, Vargas and Escobar. I don't see any improvement by signing a F.A. just more Cost$$$$.- 81 replies
