  1. I find the backlash (way after the fact, mind you) of trading Gomez to be really irritating. The Twins received a good return on the guy (it's not Hardy's fault he was later given away for a Snickers bar and a fungo bat) and he struggled for two more seasons for breaking out. Sometimes, guys take awhile to adjust and mature. Gomez looks to be one of those guys and if the Twins had retained Hardy, the trade would have been considered a good one by both sides.
  2. If you want to stop talking about Kevin Correia, then stop talking about Kevin Correia. I didn't bring him up in this thread. You did that.
  3. Which is why I wasn't dead-set against them re-signing him, either. This is a situation where it's pretty easy to see both sides of the argument and only in hindsight can one side yell "HA, TOLD YOU SO" because there was just as good a chance that Francisco was going to explode like a hand grenade, particularly when he injured himself in the offseason and had to renegotiate his contract.
  4. For half the season, Kevin Correia has been a league average pitcher and better than the vast majority of free agent acquisitions. That's all I'm saying. I've even mentioned that he still has a long way to go before the season is over. But to deny that he's been pretty good thus far is to ignore the reality of the situation and that is: - Kevin Correia was predicted to be very, very bad by most of us here - Kevin Correia has been a pretty decent league average starter - Most of the FA crop of this offseason has exploded spectacularly in one way or another
  5. This team had plenty of reasons to kick Francisco to the curb. After over half a decade of dealing with him, it's forgivable to throw up your hands in frustration and move on. On the other hand, I wouldn't have minded them re-signing him, either. He's an enigma... But you can't hold an enigmatic player over the heads of management. They gave him a shot.... And another shot... And another shot... He was infuriating. It's great that he's having a nice season in Pittsburgh but there's a good chance he's back to a 5.50 ERA next season, because that's who he is as a player. Eminently talented and even more frustrating to watch.
  6. Absolutely, but it shows how little we know because most of our vitriol was pointed at the wrong guy and many of the pitchers we wanted turned out to be flat-out awful and/or injured this year. Really, there is one guy who has been great this season... Sanchez. Past that, the FA crop looks really, really bad.
  7. Actually, with hindsight, Correia looks like one of the better acquisitions while we universally hated the move.
  8. How I yearn to see that beautiful stroke of Sweet Drew once more.
  9. A bit off-topic, but... Throwing off the mound, last I heard.
  10. It'd be damned hard to turn down Lee for Perkins.
  11. He's not going to publicly show his hand two weeks before the trade deadline. That'd be foolish. It's in his best interest to be vague right now.
  12. I didn't take it as inflammatory at all. Don't worry about it.
  13. The Quality Start is nonsense because a guy can go 5.2 innings of a shutout and not get credit. He can pitch 8 innings, give up four runs, and not get credit. But if he hits that magic threshold of six innings and three runs, he's golden. QS rival the Save for tops in the Dumb Stat From The 1960s That Needs To Go Away Forever category. Given the plethora of advanced stats we have available, why rely on something that is so obviously flawed and arbitrary?
  14. And as I said earlier, I still hate the thinking that went into the signing. But on its face, it was a decent pickup so far.
  15. He averaged six innings a start and a 4.29 ERA in June. Give credit where credit is due. The guy has been league average for half a season making $4.5m a year when most of us expected him to grenade in April. He still has a lot to prove in the coming months but thus far, Kevin Correia has not been the problem. And the Quality Start stat is junk. It's completely arbitrary. 5.0 innings, one run allowed. NO GOOD! You awful, Mister Correia! 6.0 innings, three runs. I want to have your baby, Mister Correia! Nothing more than lines randomly drawn in the sand.
  16. He was also just fine in June, posting a 4.29 ERA over six starts and 35.2 innings. In the three full months he has pitched, he has had one excellent month, one decent month, and one bad month. July isn't over yet, though it certainly hasn't looked good for him.
  17. Haven't we all admitted we were wrong about Correia yet? Are we still in the denial phase? I still don't like the idea behind the signing but come on, the guy has pitched well enough to earn his paycheck and then some.
  18. That's it, you're outta here.
  19. Yeah, it's a real shame that ESPN deleted so many of their posts and re-booted the boards. We lost some golden moments.
  20. I have to say this comment surprised me the most.
  21. Nick, it's not about Ryan being a sacred cow. I think everyone on this forum, admins/mods included, have serious issues with some things he has done over the past year. Imagine it this way... A couple of posters have serious issues with Brian Dozier. You start a thread about Byron Buxton. Poster A comes in and diverts the conversation into a rant about Brian Dozier and how he's dragging the team down. Annoyed, you give up and start a thread about Pedro Florimon. Poster B wanders in and makes an offhand comment about Brian Dozier and Poster A, seeing the opportunity to talk about Brian Dozier, joins in. The thread is derailed. Exasperated, you move on and begin to talk about Ron Gardenhire's future. Poster C talks about how Gardenhire should be fired because... You guessed it, he plays Brian Dozier too often. Poster A and B are delighted at the turn of events in this thread and pile on. Another thread is off the rails. That's the problem. It's not that people have opinions or that Ryan is a sacred cow. The problem is that the overall health of the forum is being dominated by a couple of posters who really, really dislike Brian Dozier. As site owners, we have to do what is best for the site itself. We don't like wielding ban hammers like drunken tyrants. It's annoying. To a man, we hate doing it. We all have limited time and we can't chase around the same problems all the time... It derails us from our real objective, and that is to improve Twins Daily. Every forum report we get, every poster we have to talk to, every ban we have to enforce... That's time we're not working on the site. At the end of the day, all we're asking for is civility. If someone has talked about how much they don't like Brian Dozier in one thread that day, just reconsider bringing him up in another thread, particularly if that thread is titled "Oswaldo Arcia hits a homer". That's all it takes. Really. One moment to reconsider whether you're basically spamming the board with the same negative message over and over and over again. Really. That's all. I'm not joking. This is exceedingly easy to follow.
  22. Brian is just getting his feet under him. Let him stick at second for awhile before considering any kind of change.
  23. Ah, I didn't see that. Well, if Sano isn't there, chances are Buxton will be. Really, who I want to see depends on the roster of each team. Right now, there are interesting players at every level, including AAA courtesy of yesterday's demotions.
