  1. Yep. Making the EC representative would force candidates to push to the middle. Go too far right, lose valuable points from NY and CA. Go too far left, lose valuable points from Texas and middle America. Instead of just ignoring states you can't win, you'll scratch for a point here and a point there in states previously considered unwinnable. And instead of spending *all* their time in Florida and/or Ohio, those states would diminish in importance because they can't make up their ****ing minds. A state split down the middle shouldn't decide our President, especially when it happens by a few thousand votes. That's madness.
  2. Make the electoral college representative. If a rural state goes 80% red, then they get 80% red votes in the EC. It makes no sense for votes not to count in the 21st century. Especially because it means states like Florida or Ohio decide damned near every election. Candidates spend a disproportionate amount of time catering to those voters while ignoring the rest of us. And it would make states like CA much more of a battleground. Candidates would fight for every point they get from CA voters, not ignore the state entirely because it's guaranteed to go to the Democratic candidate.
  3. I wish I had bought into Nvidia but I'm so tech heavy that I was wary about going deeper into that market. But, excluding Tesla, my lowest tech stock gain is Google at roughly 50-60% gains so it's not like I have much room to complain.
  4. It'd be a lot easier to tolerate the modern GOP if they were actual fiscal conservatives instead of just claiming that's what they are. I think all of us want smaller, smarter government in some capacity. Unfortunately, the GOP hasn't actually assembled a plan to make that happen, they just squawk and try to cut programs they don't like while bloating the ones they do. I sincerely hope Trump is different in that regard but I'm not holding my breath.
  5. Uh huh. So the guy who spent two months railing on and making fun of Bernie supporters is now trying to come together. BTW, notice how quiet I've been about the protesting and other Trump-related backlash. I don't support protesting the man. I think it's polarizing and, frankly, stupid. But I do support protesting actions taken by the man (and he hasn't done anything yet). I'm cautiously giving Trump and his supporters slack with the full knowledge they're probably going to hang themselves in short order. I wish that wasn't the case but given the man's temperament and past behavior, I believe it's the most likely outcome.
  6. Dave, are you feeling okay?
  7. Sorry, diehard, but you're a straight white dude, just like me. Our level of fear reaches no higher than a 3 out of 10. We'll be fine unless the world literally blows up. The fear of mild discomfort doesn't rate compared to seeing your family deported.
  8. Don't leave out the fact that while they were laughing at Trump, they were also giving him thousands of hours of free air time to spew his vitriol at America.
  9. The best case scenario is that we see Graham, Rubio, Ryan, et al try to take back their party. I don't agree with their policies but they're decent people. I cannot say the same for Trump. If we're lucky, we see them form a coalition with moderate Democrats to block Trump's most outrageous ideas. But we're pretty much ****ed on the deficit and taxes. There's no way I see the GOP backing down from the opportunity to lower taxes on their bread and butter.
  10. You may find it funny but there are literally millions of Americans who are scared ****less that open season has been declared on their existence. Personally, I don't find that that least bit ****ing funny.
  11. I mean, I was deeply hoping Silver went off the rails and Clinton was going to walk away with this thing but I kept remembering, damn, it's Nate Silver... The prick has the annoying tendency to be right far more than any human should be.
  12. I find Falvey/Levine's approach... Interesting, to say the least. They're not overhauling the organization right off the bat. I expected that, to a point... But keeping the entire front office and most of the coaching staff is a surprise. I expected them to discard at least pieces (and possibly a majority) of each almost immediately. It makes me wonder if that's their Year Two plan. Tackle the big, hard issues first (drafting, development, analytics) through expansion and then worry about the other stuff when you feel comfortable with the changes you have in place.
  13. Hard to say with Virginia. The counties with outstanding votes are largely blue, and bright blue at that. Again, the demographic split between rural and urban is causing a lot of fuss, and I'm not quite convinced we should be *too* worried quite yet.
  14. On a related note: anyone want to take a swing at 538's projection model right about now? Didn't think so.
  15. I tend to agree... to an extent. I still think Clinton wins and it's not nail-biting close but I think it's closer than 2012.
  16. It looks bad but Clinton didn't need Florida or Ohio. Michigan is the only really troubling state I see right now (though it's a big one).
  17. Yeah, it's scary... but I believe urban areas tend to report later and we all know how the demographics split in this regard.
  18. Who doesn't do that?
  19. DEMOCRATS AIN'T GOT NO JOBS SO THEY ALREADY VOTED ARGH BLARGH HERP DERP https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uiVVbYK9HXw
  20. The long national nightmare is nearing a close.
  21. Yeah, combine the enormous need for depth, the lack of free agent options, and the Twins' lack of payroll concerns and I don't really see a reason not to bring him back.
  22. Compromise. Move it, then delete it.
  23. We're going to try posting blueprints in the Twins forum this year. This forum gets far and away the most traffic so the hope is that peoples' blueprints will get more eyeballs and comments this way.
  24. Nail only one draft pick or free agent signing that's worth $10m and you just paid for a whole lot of suits to sit in cubicles for several years.
  25. That's a fair analysis. If a model is weighting numbers, it's very possible the weights are off and the entire model becomes gibberish. But I'll wait out the results before declaring a model gibberish. And in this case, I very much hope Silver is wrong.
