I've heard Gleeman and others mention it repeatedly, mostly in podcast form. It may be out there in the written word somewhere.

That's an organizational decision, not a Carlos Correa decision. Half of this team, and pretty much all of its actual good players, have had repeated lower-body injuries. As a result, they're being told not to run out grounders at 100% because it's not worth the risk.

The biggest culprit is ownership. I'm furious at them, to be blunt. They're bad managers of a business, particularly an entertainment business. They're just bad at their jobs. When your entertainment business is cyclical, with natural peaks and valleys, you do not knee-cap your investment when it's HEADING TOWARD A PEAK. That's just poor management, that's short-sighted and not very smart. One might even call it dumb. I would. Additionally, while you're restricting the ability of this entertainment business to entertain, you DO NOT also make it ****ing impossible for fans to watch your product. And you don't remove $4 ticket flash sales. You don't close the third deck of Target Field in April, forcing hesitant fans into more expensive seats because you're greedy asses. And you don't do a dozen other things this third generation of Pohlads has done in the past two years. And now, to boot, we've found out they're doing all of this in part because they're siphoning money out of the Twins to prop up their other failing businesses. The third generation of Pohlads have done everything in their power to make fans not give a **** about the Minnesota Twins. And congratulations, you nit-wits, YOU DID IT. MISSION ACCOMPLISHED. I now pay farrrrr more attention to the competent organization one state to the east of us, the Milwaukee Brewers. They've faced the same problems the Twins have in TV, and they play in an even smaller market. Yet they've somehow weathered this RSN apocalypse better than the bigger-market Twins. They've offered in-market streaming for years. They provide a fan experience that encourages people to show up. They're chugging along, making the playoffs every season, and not going out of their way to piss off the fanbase. Now on to the front office. It's not their fault ownership knee-capped them. That's a really unfortunate thing to have happen right as you've built a winner with some success. Not their fault. But it IS their fault that they've been sitting on their hands for literally years now. They didn't try to trade minor-league pitching to round out the roster before 2024. They basically did absolutely nothing in the wake of the team putting up one of the most pathetic collapses we've ever seen in the second half of 2024. All that inaction, and now they're ****ing selling. Pathetic. Screw this franchise.

Yeah, thanks. I didn't think there was real animosity; that's why I described it as friction. Based on the little I've heard, the friction came and went.

Going from memory, Lewis wasn't doing extra work while he was circling the drain late in the season, and Correa called him out for it.

Is there tension? I don't know, honestly. Could be. But I know there has been at least temporary friction, and it's pretty obvious that was squarely on Lewis while Correa was trying to get everybody's ass in gear. I'm not particularly enchanted with Lewis. I would not make any roster decisions around him.

There has never been even a whisper that Correa is a clubhouse problem. In fact, everybody pretty much says the opposite.

Chasing a guy with an empty glove. Nice.

It takes some real balls to ask for Andrew Painter in a deal for a reliever.

With six sites to cover, they're becoming less fun and more stressful. So many things bouncing around at once.

Oh, there's certainly a chance Culpepper debuts next year, maybe it's even likely given how he's playing. But even if that happens, Correa can easily slide over to third base, where he's better than Lewis. The defense on this team is one of many things that needs to improve.

I try not to think about prospects if they're more than a month or two out. "Clearing space" for a guy like Culpepper isn't even on my radar as a thing. If he was in Triple-A and hitting really well, then I'd factor him into plans. Otherwise, not even a factor. You'll get yourself into a lot of trouble if you dream on prospects who are multiple levels away from the majors.

They're probably better without Correa on the team. But that's the nature of big contracts, and I'm not a fan of exploiting "efficiency" to the point it diminishes the fan experience. I have absolutely no desire to see the Twins become the Tampa Bay Rays.

Almost every owner talks a good game when they enter the sport. If an owner is restricting payroll on day one, that means the Twins have a Bob Nutting-level owner and we all might as well stop watching this team.

If Correa wants to leave, I don't blame him. And if new owners don't raise payroll in an attempt to put on a good face, oh boy are we in ****ing trouble.

Absolutely not. Losing Correa's salary just gives the Pohlads an excuse to further lower payroll. Correa makes around $30m next season. Someone tell me with a straight face that if the Pohlads somehow get out of that $30m, they will reinvest $30m back into payroll.

Well, you can't win 'em all... or, in the Twins' case, half of 'em.

I'd love to read Falvey's thoughts on trade values. I'm 99% confident he's far more nuanced and interesting to read than Bowden.
