Matthew Robert Wisler was born on September 12, 1992 in Bryan, Ohio.
The San Diego Padres drafted him in round seven of the 2011 MLB Draft. Wisler rose through their minor league system and blossomed into one of baseball's best prospects. Baseball America ranked him as the league's 34th best prospect in 2015. He was a major piece of the return package sent to the Atlanta Braves in a blockbuster deal for Craig Kimbrel and Melvin Upton Jr.
Wisler debuted for the Braves in 2015, going 8-8 with a 4.71 ERA in 19 starts. He performed even worse over the next few seasons, owning a 5.27 ERA during his four years in Atlanta. They traded him to the Cincinnati Reds at the deadline in 2018, and he was designated for assignment after the season. Wisler pitched for the Padres and the Seattle Mariners in 2019.
The Minnesota Twins claimed Wisler off of waivers during the off-season. He had a career year during the COVID shortened 2010 season, recording a 1.07 ERA with 35 strikeouts in 25.1 innings of action. Despite this performance, he was left off the Twins playoff roster and non-tendered when the year was over.
The San Francisco Giants signed him, but he was designated for assignment in June with an ERA north of six. Wisler was claimed by the Tampa Bay Rays, and pitched well over parts of two seasons. He had a 2.25 ERA in 66 appearances for Tampa Bay, but he missed a large chunk of 2022 with a neck injury. They designated him for assignment after the season,
Wisler spent the next few seasons struggling on minor league deals. He retired in 2024.

CHW 4, MIN 3: Twins Lose Rubber Match to White Sox After Another Long Day of Baseball
The Twins were part of yet another five-plus hour day of baseball, but this time it wasn’t because of extra innings. Despite the White Sox ace being cut short due to a three-hour rain delay the Twins couldn’t take the Sunday rubber match losing just their seventh series on the season.
TB 5, MIN 2: Twins Can’t Complete Sweep in 18-Inning Duel
For the second time in nine days, the Twins were playing into the 17th inning. The bullpen kept giving the offense opportunities to take this game, Martin Perez had a stellar comeback after a rough second inning, and the Twins offense was lifeless after the first.
MIN 4, BOS 3: Twins Win in 17th Inning, Get First Walk-Off
For the first time this season the Twins win on a walk-off hit from (who else?) Max Kepler. It was the longest game of the season for both teams tonight and both bullpens were lights out, but one had to blow it. Kepler also hit a game-tying single in the eighth inning and a game-tying homer in the 13th.
DET 9, MIN 3: Third Out Eludes Gibson, Eades Debuts
Kyle Gibson struggled to finish off the Tigers in the second inning, the Twins’ lineup was uncharacteristically quiet against a Detroit staff maneuvering through a bullpen game and Matt Magill made sure there was no drama in the ninth inning. In between all that, Ryan Eades pitched two scoreless innings in his major league debut.
Area Man to Let Bullpen Ruin His Family's Weekend
In an otherwise ideal season, the Minnesota Twins' glaring weakness remains their bullpen. And at least one man is going to let it wreck the next few days.
Homonym Leads to Hot Water for Jason Castro, Twins
Among the many “new school” approaches of the Twins front office is an increased focus on pitch framing, wherein catchers tweak their movements to maximize the odds of the home plate umpire calling a strike.
Unfortunately, Jason Castro might have needed a little more clarification.
